Chapter 678:
Her heart sank at the sight of Eileenâs pale face.
At Rubyâs question, Eileen tried to respond, but the pain in her heart, thinking about Bryan lying in bed, made it impossible for her to get any words out.
In that moment, Ruby seemed to understand the situation. She handed Gabriela to Eileen and said, âSpend some time with the child. Iâll prepare something for you to eat. It wonât take long.â
Gabriela was the only one who could offer Eileen any comfort now.
Eileen barely touched her dinner. It was evident that she was preoccupied and in a state of distress.
Ruby hesitated, torn between wanting to offer comfort and fearing she might say the wrong thing.
When Ruby hesitated, Eileen had already retreated upstairs with Gabriela. Gabriela had missed Eileen all day and clung to her now.
Once she had gently lulled Gabriela to sleep, Eileen lay on her bed, tossing and turning, sleep eluding her.
It suddenly struck Eileen how accustomed she had grown to having Bryan by her side.
The next morning, Eileen woke up early.
As Ruby prepared breakfast, she noticed Eileen making her way downstairs, dressed for the day. With a smile, Ruby approached and said, âDonât worry, Eileen. Iâll take care of Gabriela. I know youâre anxious, but itâs important to stay healthy. You should still eat on time, even if youâre not hungry.â
Eileen gave a grateful nod. âThanks for taking care of Gabriela, Mom. Iâll be back tonight, just like yesterday.â
Step into a new journey on .con âIs Bryan in the hospital?â Ruby asked hesitantly.
Eileen didnât shy away from the truth. âYes, he hasnât woken up since they administered the antidote.â
âGo on, then,â Ruby said, not wanting to delay Eileenâs plan.
Eileen left the house, heading straight to the hospital as quickly as she could.
She had envisioned the moment she would open the door and see Bryanâs warm, smiling face.
Yet, the moment she opened the door, a lump formed in her throat when she saw Bryan lying on the bed, unconscious. His fingers were still attached to a blood pressure monitor, and various other monitors surrounded him. Bryan was still unconscious.
Taking a deep breath, Eileen made her way to the bedside, drew out a chair, and sat down.
She took Bryanâs hand in hers and noticed how cold his fingertips were.
Without hesitation, she fetched warm water and a towel, gently applying the warm water to his hand in hopes of warming him up.
As soon as Josue returned, he saw Eileen attentively caring for Bryan. His brow furrowed in concern as he gently asked, âAre you here so early?â
âIâm worried about Bryan,â Eileen replied softly, carefully warming Bryanâs cold hands.
