Chapter 674:
âI donât need your advice! Just leave me alone!â With that, Judie shoved Denise out of the room and slammed the door shut.
Judie and Deniseâs visit didnât seem to affect Eileen much, but it made Bryan sense something was amiss. Seizing the opportunity while Ruby went upstairs to check on Gabriela, Bryan slipped into the kitchen after Eileen.
âAre you keeping something from me?â Bryan asked.
Eileen, preparing breakfast without turning to face him, replied, âMr. Dawson, you do have a sharp mind. Why donât you take a guess at what Iâm hiding?â she teased.
She boiled some eggs, then leaned against the counter and glanced at him.
Bryan leaned against the kitchen cabinet, his elbows propped up on the edge, his fingers relaxed and hanging down. His deep-set eyes narrowed slightly. After a brief pause, he replied, âItâs difficult to read your thoughts, Ms. Curtis. I concede.â
Eileen, finding his reaction amusing, walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist. âIâm not Deniseâs biological daughter. We are not related.â
This revelation had never crossed Bryanâs mind. He pressed his thin lips together, furrowed his brow, and gazed at her, hesitant to speak.
Eileen said, âThis may not be ideal, but itâs not entirely negative. At least it will prevent Denise from leveraging her âmotherâ status to exploit me.â
Although Denise hadnât been overtly exploitative, she had nonetheless created considerable problems.
âSo, you donât intend to make this public?â Bryan asked, his hands resting on her waist as he looked down at her.
Eileen shook her head. âNo. Regardless of whether Roderick and I are biologically related, we maintain a good relationship. Thereâs no need to create unnecessary problems between us.â

Eileenâs heart sank slightly, but she mustered a smile. âYes, I have both of you.â
Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the ringing of Bryanâs phone. Bryan placed a hand on her waist, pulled out his phone, and answered the call. It was Josue on the line.
âThe drug test results are in,â Josue said. âItâs definitely the antidote, but thereâs an unknown component that experts canât identify. Weâre unsure of its potential effects.â
Josue swore under his breath, feeling that Christos had outsmarted them.
The kitchen was quiet, and Eileen overheard what Josue had said. Her eyes flickered with a brief glimmer of hope before fading again. She looked at Bryan, frowning.
âMake sure the experts are prepared to give me a full body check. When everythingâs ready, Iâll take the antidote,â Bryan said decisively.
Eileen suddenly grabbed his wrist. The veins in Bryanâs hand stood out as he held her wrist in return. After finishing his call, he ended it and said to Eileen, âI canât wait any longer.â
