Chapter 657:
Eileenâs face grew somber as she read the last two messages, and she placed the phone back down. Without uttering a word, she headed to the kitchen to assist Ruby.
After lunch, she concocted an excuse to go meet Denise. Just as she was about to leave, Bryan rushed downstairs, and they crossed paths at the entrance.
âWhere are you headed?â Bryan asked, noticing the car keys in her hand. âLet me give you a ride.â
âNo, itâs not necessary. Iâm going to meet Josue,â Bryan answered, while changing his shoes. Leaning against the entryway cabinet, he pulled Eileen into his arms. âWeâre getting married tomorrow. Why are you leaving without informing me? Are you trying to run away?â
Eileen was momentarily at a loss for words.
She jabbed Bryanâs chest with her finger and said, âIf I had wanted to escape, why would I have gone through all the effort to bring you back? I could have simply left you in that village and watched you marry Zelda!â
Bryanâs eyes narrowed at the mention of Zelda. âStop always bringing up the village and Zelda when we argue. She stirs up jealousy in you; itâs time for you to let it go.â
âStop flattering yourself; Iâm not jealous,â Eileen replied. âWhy are you meeting with Josue? Has he got news about Christos?â
Out of the blue, Bryan consented to tie the knot. While he decided against a lavish wedding, he intentionally made sure the press was aware of it. This was a departure from his usual way of doing things, and Eileen suspected Bryan was keeping something from her.
âYes, itâs about Christos. The specifics are unclear, but Iâll fill you in completely when I get back,â Bryan softly pinched Eileenâs nose and spoke to her gently. âIâm not keeping secrets from you; I just want to avoid adding to your worries.â
He knew that although Eileen remained calm on the outside, internally, she was wrestling with a multitude of thoughts, having endured so many challenges. He worried that she might become overly fatigued.

âOf course, Curtis,â Bryan teased. They left the house togetherâEileen heading off to meet Denise, and Bryan making his way directly to Josueâs place.
The Seaside Cafe was conveniently located close to Eileenâs residence, and she arrived after a brief ten-minute drive. The moment she stepped out of the car, she spotted Denise seated by the window in an upstairs private room. Denise was scanning the cafeâs interior, oblivious to Eileenâs arrival.
Once inside, Eileen told the waiter Deniseâs name, and the waiter guided her to the upper floor. The door to the room was partially open. Eileen requested the waiter to return downstairs, choosing to enter the room by herself.
Treading softly on the red carpet, she quietly pushed open the wooden door, which made no sound. Denise, now positioned by the window, was gazing down at the street, muttering to herself. âRuby, youâre dependent on Eileen. Donât try to convince me youâre broke. A bit of Eileenâs money could last for generations. If you donât get me a villa today, Iâ¦â
