Chapter 632:
The meal was harmonious, but Eileenâs heart was heavy with regret. She watched Gabriela, whose big eyes were wide with excitement as she eagerly reached for the food. Gabriela beamed, revealing her four tiny teeth, and tried to feed Eileen by handing food to her mouth.
âMommy isnât hungry,â Eileen said with a smile, gently turning down the offer. She recalled a day in the hospital when Gabrielaâs hands were smeared with grease, trying to feed Bryan. Bryan had accepted the food from Gabrielaâs greasy hand without hesitation.
Even though Eileen found it unappetizing, Bryan didnât mind in the slightest.
Eileen used a wet wipe to clean Gabrielaâs hands, her heart overwhelmed with emotions.
Noticing this, Bailee asked, âWhich hospital is Bryan at? Huey and I will visit him when we can.â
âWhen youâre free, I can take you there.â After cleaning Gabrielaâs hands, Eileen smiled at Bailee and Huey and added, âHeâs doing well now.â
Huey put down his fork and asked, âWhatâs Bryanâs illness? I know some top specialists. Do you need me to contact them for assistance?â
Eileen shook her head, replying, âNo, thank you. Heâs already under the care of professionals.â
âThatâs reassuring. How long will he be in the hospital?â Bailee asked cautiously.
Eileen paused for a moment. The timing of Bryanâs discharge was uncertain. It was unclear whether he would even be discharged soon.
âLetâs not focus on that,â Ruby interjected, shifting the conversation. âHospital visiting hours are only in the morning. When you both find time to visit, make sure to plan it out in advance and bring me along.â
Bailee quickly responded, âSure thing.â

The button belonged to Bryanâs shirt, and Eileen wasnât sure where Gabriela had discovered it.
Gabriela waved the button in the air, then made her way to Eileen, pressing the button gently against her cheek.
Eileen felt the coldness of the button. She picked it up and stared at it for a long time.
âMa!â Gabriela mumbled, extending her tiny fingers to gently brush away the tears from Eileenâs eyes.
No tears fell onto the pillow; Gabriela had tenderly wiped all of Eileenâs tears away.
Eileen sat upright, clutching the button in her hand. She hugged Gabriela tightly and said, âThis button belongs to your Daddy.â
Gabriela showed no interest in the button. Instead, she gazed up at Eileen, her eyes mirroring Eileenâs red eyes.
Eileen kissed Gabrielaâs forehead and said, âIf you can start calling him âDaddyâ soon, it will make him so happy, and heâll come back faster.â
Gabriela repeated the word, âDaddy.â
However, it was just the instinctive repetition of a baby, not a genuine call for her mother. Eileen estimated it would take at least two months for Gabriela to learn to call her and Bryan. She wasnât sure if Bryan would have the chance to hear itâ¦
