Chapter 625:
âYes, she kept you out, but was she also able to keep you quiet?â Eileen had wanted to bring this up but hadnât known how. Now that Denise had mentioned it, she seized the opportunity.
Her words made Denise feel uneasy.
Eileen continued, âYouâve been spreading rumors in our neighborhood, tarnishing both my motherâs and my reputations. Do you think this will accomplish your goal?â
At that moment, Roderickâs face turned cold. âWhat rumors? Mom, what have you done?â
Denise quickly responded, âI havenât done anything wrong. I was just worried about Eileen. As Gabrielaâs grandmother, I needed to see Gabriela, so I dropped by. But Ruby shut me outââ
âAnd we had a quarrel. Perhaps the rumors started because Ruby was too haughty, and the neighbors couldnât stand her.â
âYou know better than anyone what really happened.â Aware of Deniseâs dishonesty, Eileen chose not to argue further. Instead, she warned, âIf I hear those rumors again, Iâll call the police. Theyâll find out whoâs behind them, and whoever it is could end up in jail for years.â
Denise felt fear upon hearing this. Roderick appeared angry, while Judie rolled her eyes at Denise.
Bryan remained silent next to Eileen, but his presence was impossible to ignore. To Denise, however, they were the younger generation, and she expected them to respect her.
Immediately, Denise said angrily, âYou want to send your own mother to jail? Arenât you afraid of karma?â
âYou donât need to keep reminding me youâre my mother. Are you trying to constantly remind yourself of our relationship?â Eileen replied. Hearing the word âmotherâ from Denise was absurd to her. It felt like Denise was trying to hurt her.
âIâm just telling the truth! Iâm afraid you might forget it!â Denise said awkwardly. âDonât change the subject. Even though youâve distanced yourself from me legally and give me alimony every month, you should still have a conscience! You live in a big house and drive a luxury car, yet you only give me two thousand dollars a month. Donât you feel ashamed of that?â

Seeing Eileenâs anger, Denise didnât dare to argue further. She looked at Roderick and said, âI⦠I have my son. Do you think I need you? My son is earning money now, and Judie is pregnant. I plan to treat my grandson better than Iâve ever treated your daughter!â
âThen you better remember what you just said,â Eileen replied. She didnât feel saddened by Deniseâs words. After all, she never expected Denise to care for Gabriela. Gabriela already had a grandmother who truly cared for herâRuby.
âLetâs go,â Bryan said, standing up and putting his arm around Eileenâs shoulder.
Two customers entered and were startled by the commotion. Eileen, not wanting to disrupt business at Roderickâs restaurant, decided to leave with Bryan.
Judie stood up and went to greet the customers, while Denise, feeling guilty, moved to wipe down the tables.
Roderick quickly ran after Eileen and Bryan.
âEileen, why didnât you tell me that Mom came to your place before?â Roderick asked, slightly out of breath from running.
