Chapter 606:
Josue caught it swiftly and retorted, âYou only lash out at us. Would you dare show this attitude to Eileen? She hasnât even visited you.â
Bryanâs expression darkened. Eileen hadnât visited him since he was admitted last night. He turned over and shut his eyes, seemingly trying to sleep.
Sensing Bryanâs irritation, Josue didnât dare provoke him further. He settled onto the sofa with the pillow, fully expecting that Eileen would visit Bryan by tomorrow at the latest.
Yet, three days passed without her visit. Bryanâs expression grew darker with each passing day. It wasnât until the fourth day, when photos of Eileen, Benjamin, and Gabriela having lunch together surfaced, that Josue realized Eileen was truly determined.
When the accident happened, they had kept the real situation about Bryan from the public, only telling the media that it was an accident. Since then, Bryan hadnât been seen in public for months.
Images of Eileen and Benjamin enjoying a meal with Gabriela were now splashed across the media, highlighting their cheerful interaction. The public believed Eileen had moved on.
All of Bryan and Eileenâs past promises and shared happiness now seemed insincere. Yet, there was no solid evidence, and the media only hinted at the situation.
That afternoon, Jacob dragged Eileen to Bryanâs hospital room. The sunlight filtered in just right. Bryan had been in the hospital for several days, and shielded from the harsh outdoor elements of the village, he looked noticeably better. Still, his movements were stiff.
He turned to look at Eileen and clearly noticed her displeasure with Jacobâs actions.
âDonât leave, Eileen!â Jacob positioned himself by the door, fearing she might try to escape.
âI wonât leave,â Eileen said firmly. She had no intention of running. She straightened her disheveled clothes and walked over to Bryanâs bed. âWe were together once. I bore him a child. Itâs only right that I visit him.â
Your imagination starts at g Ɐ ln Ï Î½ð ðsâ¤conn Josue scoffed. âYou didnât even bring anything, so you really just came to see him.â
âJacob didnât give me a chance to buy anything,â Eileen retorted.
She lowered her head and studied Bryanâs sharp profile. He wasnât looking at her anymore. She couldnât tell if he was upset or simply thought it was right for her to be there.
Perhaps due to his recent work in the village, the veins on the back of his hand were more pronounced.
âHow has your treatment been going?â Eileen asked directly, aware Josue and the others wouldnât be honest with her.
As expected, Josue responded, âHeâs quietly battling something⦠that heâs really missing you.â
âReally?â Eileen stepped back, her hand in her pocket, and leaned against the bedâs edge. âIf you donât tell anyone, no one knows about your secret troubles. Just refuse to acknowledge them until someone else points them out. Thatâs unnecessary.â
âYou two, step outside,â Bryan suddenly said, gesturing for Josue and Jacob to leave.
Jacob sensed the tension in the room was too intense.
