Chapter 594:
In the evening, the rain finally stopped, and a rainbow formed under the setting sun. Eileen cleared the dirt and water from the yard and allowed Gabriela to ride her stroller outside for some fun.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Jacob. Once the call connected, he quickly said, âThe rainstorm caused a mudslide that collapsed the Dury familyâs house. Bryan injured his leg and is getting treated in town.â
Jacob had thought for a long time before deciding to call Eileen.
After the rain eased, the ground behind the Dury familyâs house started showing signs of instability, prompting a swift evacuation. Bryan got injured during the collapse while evacuating. By the time Jacob called Eileen, two hours had passed.
When Jacob went to make the call, Bryan was still unconscious. However, when Jacob returned, he found Bryan awake.
âWhere have you been?â Josue asked.
Jacob answered, âI called Eileen. Sheâs on her way here. She must be really worried.â
Upon hearing this, Bryan looked at Jacob, seemingly upset that he had made the call. However, he didnât say anything.
They waited in the ward until it was dark. The room was tense, with neither Jacob nor Josue moving to turn on the light.
Suddenly, Jacobâs phone broke the silence with its ringtone. He pulled it out and said, âIt must be Eileen asking which room weâre in. Letâs turn on the light so she can see Bryan when she arrives.â
He then flicked on the light and answered the phone.
âWhat? What flight tickets⦠The flight back to Onaland⦠You donât need to book for us. Wait, youâre still leaving? When? Oh, the next available flight isnât for three days, and thatâs weather permitting. Go ahead and book it. Iâll stay here another two days with Josueâ¦â

Turning back, he noticed Bryan and Josue watching him.
He pressed his tongue to his cheek and said, âIt was Eileen calling. But she wonât come hereâ¦â
Bryan and Josue remained silent.
âI just called her on impulse,â Jacob said. âI thought we should tell her about your accident. But youâve lost your memory, and you were supposed to get married today. Itâs understandable if she doesnât show up.â
Jacob tried to justify his earlier excitement and urged Bryan not to be too upset.
Bryan cast his gaze downward, his thoughts unreadable.
âLook, just focus on recovering. Eileenâs not a doctor; her being here wouldnât change much,â Josue said, rolling his eyes at Jacob.
Hadnât Jacob just given Bryan hope, only to crush it? He shouldnât have called Eileen.
Jacob and Josue used the excuse of going out to get dinner to leave the ward, and they started arguing as soon as they were outside.
âWhy did you call Eileen?â Josue asked.
âI acted impulsively. I thought Bryan would be happy seeing her when he woke up,â Jacob replied.
