Chapter 517:
Eileen leaned forward, her eyes softening. âItâs not about what I want to know. Itâs about what youâve been hiding. You canât handle everything alone. Spill it, and letâs find a solution together.â
Eileen could tell that Bailee was holding something back.
âI havenât been able to get in touch with Huey for a while,â Bailee admitted, her voice breaking as tears welled up in her eyes. âWe were supposed to meet his arranged date together and confess everything to his mother. He told me to wait in the next room, but he left with his arranged date without a word. I found out from the waiter.â
Bailee looked heartbroken, her hands trembling slightly.
Hueyâs phone had been off, and he hadnât contacted her at all. It was as if he had vanished.
âAnd then? You havenât been able to contact him at all?â Eileen asked, sympathy evident in her voice. How had Bailee been managing all this?
Bailee shook her head but paused. âHe never showed up, but his arranged date did. She brought a divorce agreement for me to sign, but I refused. I need to hear it from Huey himself before I do anything.â
âDo you really think heâd do something like that and not face you?â Eileen frowned. âHave you tried to find him? Visit his gaming center? You know where he lives.â
Eileen felt something was offâsomething must have happened on Hueyâs side.
Bailee bit her lip, taking a deep breath. âI donât know what to say to him or where to even start.â
If Huey had given her the divorce agreement himself, should she sign it? How would she explain this to Ruby, who had never fully supported her relationship with Huey?
âThe longer you drag this situation out with Huey, the more it stresses Ruby out. Sheâs starting to see him as unreliable because of this. Youâre an adult now, Bailee. You need to face the consequences of your actions. If you canât handle the fallout from your own decisions, how do you think that will make Ruby feel?â Eileen said, her voice firm.
Eileen could see right through Baileeâs turmoil. She felt sympathy for her, but at the same time, frustration was building up. She hoped Bailee could be more mature about this situation.
Bailee had always shown maturity and dedication when it came to her job, always striving not to let Eileen down. But when it came to her love life, she seemed to lack the same level of maturity.
âHave you ever considered that something might have happened to Huey?â Eileen asked, broadening the scope of possibilities. âIgnoring the situation might lead to regrets that youâll carry for a lifetime.â
Baileeâs shoulders tensed, and she looked up at Eileen, fear flickering in her eyes. âWhat do you mean? What couldâve happened to him? Donât freak me out like that.â
