Chapter 442:
âEileen, would you mind accompanying me?â Roderick leaned in and whispered, âI have a suspicion that he might be a scammer.â
âHuh?â Eileen couldnât hold back her laughter. âWhat exactly is he trying to scam you for? Is he planning to sell you as a live-in husband in the mountains? What could he possibly want with you?â
Feeling embarrassed, Roderick scratched his head and said, âThis seems too good to be true. Iâm concerned it might be a trap. I donât have much experience with these things.â
Although Roderick was skeptical about his luck, he still clung to a glimmer of hope.
Eileen smiled and responded, âSure, Iâll come with you.â
âHe mentioned that the store is nearby. Iâll give you a ride on my scooter.â
Roderick smiled broadly, positioned the scooter, and cleared the back seat. âCome on, hop on!â
âAlright.â Eileen, dressed in a dress, sat sideways on the scooter.
Despite the warmth of the early autumn noon, the breeze from the moving scooter felt refreshingly cool.
In just two minutes, they arrived at the store, with the salesperson jogging along behind them.
The shabby appearance of the storefront, entirely dedicated to selling lottery tickets, only strengthened Roderickâs suspicions.
However, he still trusted Eileenâs judgment and quietly asked if she noticed anything unusual.

Eileen found the situation amusing and asked the staff to bring out the contract. She filled it out by entering Roderickâs personal details.
As she wrote down his ID number, Roderick voiced his concern, âWhat if they use my ID to get a loan or access my bank account for some reason?â
âItâs just your ID number. To secure a loan, they would need you in person or the actual document. Youâre protected,â Eileen reassured him.
After about ten minutes of processing, the salesperson informed him, âSir, after the one percent fee is deducted, the total amount youâll receive is ninety-nine thousand dollars.â
âAlright,â Roderick nodded in acknowledgment, completed the necessary steps, and then left with Eileen.
âIf this turns out to be a scam, Iâll have wasted your time,â Roderick said as he pushed the e-bike and glanced up at the imposing Freguson Group building. âYou should go to work now.â
Eileen advised, âBe sure to check your account. They assured us the funds would be deposited within two hours.â
âSure,â Roderick replied indifferently, then mounted his scooter, adjusted his helmet, and rode off into the distance.
