“Mrs. Dawson?” Jarred looked at Eileen with concern.

Suddenly, Bryan and Stella noticed Eileen. Bryan quickly stood up, his lips pressed together as he looked at Eileen.

Eileen smiled warmly at Jarred as she made her way downstairs to the living room. “It’s just a simple paternity test. We are going to the hospital tomorrow anyway, and we can take Gabriela to have the paternity test,” she explained.

Bryan frowned, about to speak, but Eileen continued, “I understand your concerns, Stella. If something like this happens again in the future, please feel free to tell me directly. I’ll clarify any misunderstandings, so you won’t feel uncomfortable around Gabriela, which could affect your relationship with her.” It was true that she felt disappointed. She could understand, but she couldn’t be indifferent for Bryan’s sake.

“Eileen…” Stella said. “I’m to blame for what happened before you got married. I understand if you feel uncomfortable. If you need someone to blame…”

“Let’s just forget about the past,” Eileen replied. Bryan grasped her wrist, his slender fingers wrapping around it. He remained seated. Eileen continued, “You can choose a hospital and have someone you trust perform the test.”

She didn’t want to make things worse. She just wanted to clear Stella’s suspicions.

On the way back, Eileen received a lot of messages from Phoebe.

“Don’t take Stella’s words personally,” Bryan said. After thinking for a while, Bryan still wanted to ask her what she thought about the matter.

Eileen’s expression was surprisingly calm, without a hint of unhappiness.

“I know Grandma just arrived, and it’s a bit awkward to leave her alone with my mother, but honestly, I’m exhausted from Phoebe’s nonstop messages. How about we go out and leave Gabriela at home?” Eileen assumed that Leyla and Ruby wouldn’t feel awkward with each other when Gabriela was around.

When Eileen and Bryan returned with Gabriela, they found Ruby and Leyla talking, sitting at opposite ends of the sofa.

“I’m fifty-seven years old,” Ruby said.
