Chapter 1050:
Bryan exited the vehicle and wrapped his arm around her as they walked toward the detention center.
Conroy had been waiting anxiously, his forehead beaded with sweat. The moment he saw Eileen and Bryan approaching, he sprang to his feet and grasped the metal bars, exclaiming, âI knew youâd come!â
âJust spit it out,â Eileen remained standing, clearly indicating she wasnât interested in engaging in a lengthy conversation with him.
Conroy pleaded, âIâll compensate for it, I swear! Iâll even sell the house to make it right, okay? Can you withdraw the lawsuit?â
âIâm giving you one final chance to talk. If you blow it, Iâm out of here,â Eileen said firmly.
âNo!â Conroy beckoned Eileen to come closer and whispered, âNo one else should hear this.â
Besides Conroy, Bryan, and Eileen, there were two guards in the room. Sensing the tension, the two guards moved to the corner of the room.
With his arm around Eileenâs waist, Bryan moved forward and looked at Conroy.
âI had my sights set on the Vazquez familyâs estate, but it didnât end up in my hands, right? I admit I did something wrong, but I donât think I deserve such a harsh penalty. After all, itâs not my fault that you got lost when you were young, Eileen!â Conroy quickly said.
Eileenâs body stiffened, and she instinctively gripped Bryanâs sleeve. âWhat do you mean by that?â
Conroyâs eyes widened in surprise, and he paused for a moment before asking, âYou donât know this? When you got lost, your mother filed a report at the police station, and theyâve been searching for you while also probing the circumstances surrounding your disappearance over the years. Even after your motherâs passing, the investigation remains ongoing!â

Eileenâs heart sank.
âI can provide some clues,â Conroy said. âIâll share the clues with you if you agree to drop the lawsuit.â
Noticing Eileenâs distress and furrowed brow, Bryan spoke up. âYour information, Conroy, can be used to extenuate your crime, but itâs not enough for us to drop the lawsuit. Even if someone intentionally made Eileen get lost, itâs too late to dwell on it after all these years.â
âArenât you concerned that the person who did this still hasnât backed down and might try something else?â Conroy asked anxiously.
Bryan raised an eyebrow and replied, âYou think weâre scared of that?â
Conroyâs words caught in his throat.
âWhether you choose to speak up or stay silent is entirely up to you. We donât care either way,â Bryanâs tone was dismissive. Without giving Conroy a chance to speak, he held Eileenâs arm and turned around to leave.
Anxious, Conroy grasped the metal bars and shouted, âDonât leave! Itâs negotiable! Iâm willing to negotiate a lower payment or secure an early release from jail!â
Eileen halted, turned around, and stared at Conroy for a few seconds. She shook her head and said, âYou need to understand the difference between behaving well to reduce your sentence and negotiating a deal.â
