“Do you know when you were born?” Keith asked again.

Eileen understood what Keith was trying to ascertain, but her ambiguous reply signaled that she wasn’t willing to disclose the information he sought. “My adoptive parents never celebrated my birthday. Since I returned, I’ve been preoccupied every day. I haven’t had a chance to ask my grandmother about my birthday. What’s the issue, Mr. Aston?”

Keith smiled and shook his head, opting for an indirect approach. “Is your grandmother not home?”

Eileen gazed out the window and replied, “Gabriela is thoroughly pampered by my grandmother. Lately, Gabriela has been constantly by her side. They are currently napping, but they’ve only been asleep for a short while, so they won’t be waking up anytime soon.”

He smiled awkwardly at Eileen and said, “I want to smoke when I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed.” After that, he got up and headed to the courtyard, where he lit a cigarette and smoked in the designated smoking area.

When he was done smoking, he lingered in the courtyard and showed no intention of coming back to the living room. He looked at Eileen and said, “I won’t bother you further. I will visit your grandmother another day. If there’s anything I can help with, just let me know.”

“Okay.” Eileen stood up to see him off, but before she could even leave the living room, he had already walked out of the Vazquez family’s courtyard.

She watched Keith leave, a sigh of relief escaping her lips.

She knew that in this kind of situation, once Keith’s suspicion was aroused, her ambiguous answers would only serve to fuel his determination to uncover the truth. It was just a matter of time before he learned the truth.

In the Aston family, the moment Keith walked inside, Kamila approached him.

“Jaliyah had a miscarriage, and the Diaz family demands an explanation. We need to get to the bottom of this. If Eileen is involved, she must be held accountable.”

“Don’t you know for a fact whether Eileen is involved or not?” Keith removed his shoes and positioned himself a few meters away from Kamila, looking at her. “Do you really think I can’t see that you’re deliberately making trouble for Eileen again and again?”
