Jessica’s voice was loud and accusatory. “There are only two reasons she’d marry the Brown family’s son. One, she is bored with the business world and wants to play politics for kicks. She is wealthy now, and she wants to have a taste of power.”

“Jessica, if you hadn’t pointed it out, I wouldn’t have even thought of that. What’s the other reason?” Eileen said, arching an eyebrow.

“The other reason is that you’ve betrayed Bryan!” Jessica slammed her fist on the table, her eyes gleaming with triumph.

Eileen was confused now. A whirlwind of thoughts raced through her mind, but she couldn’t for the life of her figure out how she had betrayed Bryan.

Why had Jessica said she had betrayed Bryan? Was it because she had refused to sleep with him several times before? Or was it because she had wiped her mouth after he had fed her medicine through a kiss last night?

Or… had she betrayed him by not bringing him to the banquet?

Everyone gasped, eager to jump on the gossip train. They all looked at Jessica, waiting for the juicy details.

Jessica was lost in her daydream of Eileen becoming the laughingstock of everyone until someone patted her arm and said, “Spill the beans. How did she betray her husband?”

Snapping back to reality, Jessica rolled her eyes at the man and snapped, “Don’t push me. Just thinking about it makes my heart feel like it’s about to jump out!”

“Well, keep it to yourself. My daughter’s still young, and she doesn’t need to see that black thing,” Eileen said, glancing at Gabriela.

You’re only marrying the Brown family’s son because you’re hiding an affair. You’re carrying another man’s child and scared Bryan will find out.”

Eileen was baffled. “What?”

“This woman has really crossed the line!”

“She’s having an affair! And she’s pregnant, too. Even if she marries the Brown family’s son, she’ll probably cheat on him.”

“You don’t get it. She’s only marrying the Brown family’s son because that fool can’t do anything about her affair.”

The crowd buzzed with chatter, their words dripping with the intent to humiliate Eileen.

Eileen snapped back to reality and glanced at her flat belly. Jessica’s confident smirk almost made her believe she was actually pregnant.

“You should watch what you say,” Leyla said, eyeing Jessica. “Remember when Eileen discovered you were the illegitimate child of Conroy and Gianna? She didn’t expose you but gathered proof to reveal your dirty secret.”

Jessica’s face flushed with shame.

Feeling unsure, she stammered, “W-We’re talking about Eileen’s affair and how she’s pregnant with another man’s child. Why are you bringing me into this?”

Eileen stood up and locked eyes with Jessica for a brief moment before speaking. “We’re bringing you up because my situation mirrors what your parents did. They had an affair and had you while your father was still married. So, tell me, do you think that was right?”

Jessica was left without words.
