Chapter 1029:
Lost in thought, a wave of complex emotions washed over Keith, and his eyes filled with longing for the past.
Jaliyah sized Keith up from a distance and asked Harrell, âDid your dad ever look at you like that when you were little?â
âHow the hell would I remember that? Stop talking nonsense here,â Harrell snapped back.
Jaliyah rolled her eyes. âYou and your sister are nothing to Keith. He only sees you as someone who will take care of him when heâs old, not his kids.â
Harrell glared at her but couldnât think of a good comeback. Jaliyah always won their arguments.
âYour mom seems like she could handle herself, but sheâs a nobody. Always scared to make a move. I have to be the one to take action here.â Jaliyah scanned the crowd and spotted someone wearing a servant uniform of the Lyons family.
Their eyes met for a moment. Then, Jaliyah looked away and patted Harrellâs chest. âJust watch. Iâm going to put Eileen in her place for your mother today. Your mother wonât be looking down on me anymore after this.â
âDonât act rashly,â Harrell said. âWeâre not at someone elseâs place. Making a scene here is just embarrassing.â
Jaliyah spun on her heel and left after muttering, âCoward!â
Harrell was speechless. He hurried after her, worried she might actually cause a scene.
There were many guests here. After a brief chat with Alvera, Eileen and Leyla decided to give up their seats to some other guests.

âMr. Aston,â Eileen greeted him with a polite nod.
âPlease, call me Keith,â he replied with a warm smile. âYour motherâs birthday is coming up in a couple of days. You should visit her grave and bring some flowers then.â
Eileen was stunned, unsure how to respond.
Leyla smiled at Keith. âThatâs very thoughtful of you. Eileen will do that; donât worry.â
âOkay,â Keith said, a hint of sadness in his smile. âYour mother loved shortbread and black tea. And she also likedâ¦â
He started talking about Dottieâs favorite things, and the words just kept flowing.
People came and went around Keith, but he seemed oblivious, continuing to talk. Eileen had no idea when he would stop. Eventually, Eileen gently interjected, âWhy donât you add me on WhatsApp? You can send me all you know about my mother later.â
âAlright,â Keith said, pulling out his phone. He and Eileen quickly exchanged WhatsApp info. Realizing this wasnât the best spot for a long chat, Keith flashed a smile and walked away.
Eileen headed back to the room with Gabriela and Leyla and sat at a table. Just then, her phone buzzed with a message from Bryan.
The message was short, just a question mark.
âWhatâs up?â Eileen texted back.
Bryanâs reply came quickly. âAre you at the Lyons familyâs place?â
