âLook what youâve turned into, Ki-Jun. A living corpse.â He said with a mirthless chuckle.
He bent over and lowered his head towards Ki-Jun. He listened for his breath, but there was nothing, even though he already knew he wasnât breathing on his own.
âYouâre even worse than a living corpse. Youâre a just a corpse. An ordinary dead human, breathing with the help of a machine and know why that is?â He asked. He lowered his face one more time and brought his ears close to Ki-Junâs mouth. âHmm? Did you say something?â He mocked.
He chortled at the silence which he was reeling in. âI know you donât know, so Iâll tell you. Youâre breathing with the help of a machine because I put you there. I made you this corpse that you are, and the one youâre going to turn into when the plug is finally pulled. And not only will I do that, Iâm going take everything you have just like Iâve always wanted to, and kill that little brat who is unfortunate to be your daughter.â
He resignedly sighed. âIt is sad sheâd never get to spend any time with you, but I can assure her death will be painless, or maybe more painful. Same as everyone else whoâd dare stand in my way.â
âAnd maybe like yours too.â Someone suddenly said behind him and Yong-Gun swiveled around to find Dan-Han standing at the door.
He scoffed when he realized it was no one else than Dan-Han. âItâd take more than a boy you size and wit to kill me.â Yong-Gun confidently told him.
.....
Dan-Han shrugged. âThis life is full of surprises. You just have to wait till itâs your turn for it.â Dan-Han told him, but the man snorted.
âSorry I interrupted your small confession, do you want to go with it? I can keep guard for you?â Dan-Han innocently suggested, but Yong-Gun knew he was only messing with him, and heâd be stupid to say anything in the presence of Dan-Han.
For all he knows he could have a recorder on him. He wasnât that stupid.
âWhat confession are you talking about, young man?â He innocently asked, and anyone who had heard him would have been fooled.
Dan-Han lips meaningfully curved up as he silently stared at him, but his smile suddenly unsettled Yong-Gun who narrowed his brows at him.
Dan-Han hasnât outsmarted him right? He mused.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
He had instructed his boys to sneak in at the early hours of the morning, to do a clean sweep of the room for wired tapes and hidden cameras, and there had been none.
That was what had encouraged him to having the little chat he had been dying to have with his useless brother, but it was unfortunate he wasnât conscious enough to hear him.
âYou know Iâm still beginning to wonder what it is with villains making a grand and stupid confession at the end of their show. Itâs almost redundant, donât you think?â Dan-Han cocked a brow at him, while Yong-Gun unblinkingly stared at him as he tried to understand what he was trying to say.
Dan-Hanâs smile tipped wider when he saw the shift of confusion on Yong-Gunâs face.
He stepped into the room an walked over to the side of the bed which was opposite to where Yong-Gun stood.
He looked at Ki-Junâs face before raising his head up to Yong-Gun who was regarding him with obvious intent.
Dan-Han sighed. âYou know one thing Iâve learned from playing a game of cards, is letting your opponent believe they have the winning hand, and that youâre at their mercy. That is how you play to win. Itâs all about psychology. Its all about whatâs in here.â Dan-Han said, tapping a finger at his temple.
Yong-Gunâs brows furrowed deeper as he kept trying to ascertain what Dan-Han was hinting at, even though a part of him was already giving him a hit what he was all about, but he chose not to believe it.
âIf you have something to say, say it little boy.â Yong-Gun said irritably.
âWhy donât I show you?â Dan-Han said and whipped out his phone. He opened his gallery and opened a video for him.
Yong-Gun stared at the phone as the video played. âI guess you know who that is?â Dan-Han asked, but Yong-Gun frowned.
âWhy should I know?â He stoically asked, but Dan-Han could hear the anger trembling in his voice.
Dan-Han resignatedly sighed and put away his phone. âI thought you did. The young boy had been kidnapped since yesterday from his school. And I must say I was surprised to find out it was doctor Tanâs son, same doctor who was supposed to carry out some surgery on your brother. The same brother wanted to kill.â
âLee Dan-Han-â The man called, but Dan-Han cut him off.
âIâm sure you knew about the DNR, and thatâs why you cornered the man, but thatâs no problem, because I only want to inform you no oneâs dying today, especially not your brother.â Dan-Han told him matter of factly, and Yong-Gun scowled.
âWhat do you mean?â He questioned. What did Dan-Han mean that no one was dying today? Ki-Jun was dying today, and thatâs a fact.
Dan-Han let out a cryptic smile as he reached for something under Ki-Junâs arm.
He chuckled when he saw the horrified look that covered Yong-Gunâs face.
âYou donât have to be so surprised. Itâs just a pen recorder. Iâm sure you know what itâs used for and what it means?â Dan-Han asked with a mocking smile. âOr maybe you want to know how this got here? I know about your little sweep this morning. Didnât you wonder why this room has been left unguarded all day? If you didnât, then my guess of you not being meticulous enough is real. Youâre not as smart as you claim to be.â Dan-Han hissed at him.
Yong-Gun was certain his boys hadnât made a mistake. He had personally sent Stephen, and he would never make such a mistake, except one of the doctors was working for him.
Why hadnât he thought of that.
âWas it Tan?â Yong-Gun asked, even though he knew it might be subtly admitting to his crimes, but he wanted to know.
Dan-Han mirthlessly chuckled. âYou amuse me, Mr Kim Yong-Gun. But if you must know, it isnât doctor Tan.â
âThen if he wasnât then who-â He paused when a certain face came to his mind. The young doctor who had come to give Ki-Jun some treatment.
His frown deepened at that realization. He had been suspicious about him, but he had dismissed his suspicion.
Dan-Han pressed the button on the voice recorder and everything Yong-Gun had said replayed to the manâs horror.
âThat doesnât prove anything.â He said.
âTrue,â Dan-Han nodded. âBut letâs see what your brother has to say about that, shall we?â Dan-Han cocked a brow and smiled as he looked over at Ki-Jun whose brows was twitching along side his fluttering lashes.
Yong-Gun lost his balance and staggered back a few feet, when he saw his brother slowly regaining conscious.
Dan-Han glanced at him, and his lips curled up. He wasnât one that enjoyed talking too much except when it came to Eun-sun, but he must say, taunting Yong-Gun this was satisfying.
His smile curved wider when Yong-Gun stared at Ki-Jun in horror. He chuckled amusedly.
âYou donât have to look so surprised.â He said attracting Yong-Gunâs attention right back to him.
âHow...how is this-?â
âPossible?â Dan-Han completed his sentence for him. âI told you from the onset, Iâm not someone you wanna play a game of cat and mouse with. Iâm going to corner you and tear you apart limp by limp.â Dan-Han told him, and the manâs heart skidded as he glanced back at Ki-Jun whose eyes were now open and was staring at Dan-Han, before shifting his gaze to him.
His eyes widened with horror.
âYou donât have to look so horrified. If youâre curious about what had happened, then you should know that he was indeed in a coma, but not the one you thought you put him in, but the I sanctioned.â
Dan-Han had known Yong-Gun was going to make a play at Ki-Junâs life, and he had suspected his best approach was going to be through the family doctor. He could easily use anyone else, but Dan-Han was confident heâd use doctor Tan.â
He had hired a couple of people to watch out for every member of his family, because he knew that was how the world they lived in worked. Threats and deaths were how they got things to work for them.
The instruction he had given was simple. To let whatever kidnap Ki-Jun would want to do to happen, hence how Ki-Jun had successfully kidnapped doctorâs Tan son.
After Ki-Junâs meeting with the doctor, Dan-Han had assured him heâd get his son back if he simply did as he was told. The man had been scared, but he gave him his word to bring his son safe and unharmed, and that was Tae-Hoâs assignment for the day.
Dan-Han had instructed doctor Tan to do nothing, and asked him to recommend an anaesthesics who they could trust.
While the surgery was going on, Ki-Jun had been injected with another drug that amplified the effect of the other, those prolonging his
wake up time.
âAnd the doctor who had come in, had only given the drug to antagonize the effect of the one given him while in surgery. So he was never in a coma, if Iâm allowed to say so. And the BIS thing was only to give you a reassurance that you had a perfect plan.â Dan-Han told him, and the manâs eyes widened even more in horror.
He couldnât believe it.
He glanced at his brother who was blankly looking at him.
âBrother, I didnât....none of this....â
âYo..you can save it Yong-Gun. I heard the recording, and I know your voice.â
....
