LEXI

Lexi tried to cover her ears as Reece cursed loudly over the phone. When she got home and explained what had happened, Reece dialed Carlos and started screaming at the top of her lungs.

“So, your bitch ass thought it was okay to fire her, and you think I’ll let it go?”

No matter how hard Lexi pressed her palms against her ears, Reece’s voice overpowered everything.

“How the fuck did I use you? Did you not get pussy in return? It’s called the exchange of goods and fucking services!”

Lexi gave up trying to block the noise. She couldn’t hear Carlos’s reply, but he must’ve said something horrible to make Reece’s eyes turn black.

“Stay right there. I want you to say that to my face.”

Reece hung up the phone and rifled through her bag for her handgun. She emptied all the bullets except for one.

Lexi jumped in front of her and placed her hands on the weapon. “Okay, you’ve said enough. Now calm down.”

Reece pulled the gun from Lexi and pushed it in her waistband. Then she went to tie her shoelaces.

Lexi followed her, pleading, “Reece, for the love of God, don’t!” Seeing the dangerous look in her best friend’s eyes, she began crying.

“I’m gonna fuck him up. Nobody gets to hurt you, Dray, or say fucked up shit about you either. Nobody! I don’t give a fuck who it is! He can say whatever he wants about me, but you’re innocent. Where does he come off thinking I will let this shit slide?”

Reece grabbed her car keys and a bat from her closet. Lexi grabbed her jacket and ran as fast as she could to keep up with her.

She was relieved that she did not mention Camille’s insult earlier that day, or the woman would also be at the receiving end of Reece’s wrath.

In the car, it was silent, except for the engine revving as Reece shifted gears. They reached the café in record time, and Lexi had to run to keep up with Reece as she dragged her by the hand across the big street.

Reece swung her bat back and forth, creating a tornado to cut through the line of people outside Maker’s. The security guard was about six feet tall, but even he was silenced by Reece’s middle finger. They entered the club area without a word.

Reece immediately walked up to the stage, where the DJ was playing hip hop music. She released Lexi’s hand to grab the mic and physically shoved the DJ from his booth. He stumbled back a few feet as the music came to a screeching halt.

Everyone in the room turned to look at them. Lexi hung her head, afraid to look up and witness any of the chaos that was happening.

“Let me tell you about a man named Carlos,” Reece began. “Since he likes roasting employees, I think it’s his turn to get roasted.”

Seeing the Maker’s owner bolting for the stage, she lifted her shirt so he could see the gun in her waistband. He stopped immediately.

“Carlos’s belly is so big that every time we go out in public, people ask him how far along he is.”

The crowd exploded.

“I bet when he was born the doctors were confused. What is it? A boy, a girl, an unidentified species? What?”

Lexi couldn’t believe how loud everyone was laughing, even the employees who had worked under him for many years.

“Carlos wants to know why I only fucked him once and then stopped hanging out with him. Sleeping with you again would be like putting shit back into my own ass. It’s meant to come out Carlos, not go back in.”

Reece was on fire, and the crowd was hysterical, but Lexi shrunk seeing the look of humiliation on Carlos’s face. Yet her best friend wasn’t nearly done yet.

“Carlos is like the bus you’re ashamed to admit that you take. It’ll get you where you need to go, but everyone knows you deserve to upgrade.”

Carlos looked as if he was going to cry. ~Jesus, Reece. Just stop,~ Lexi wanted to beg.

“I came here to whoop his ass with this bat, but I figured he’d never feel a thing because he’s so fucking fat. Carlos would survive a plane crash with all that padding.”

Reece mimicked a chicken, and everyone died.

Lexi felt awful. She knew her best friend normally had nothing against people of a certain weight, but Carlos seemed to bring out the worst in her, and it was too late to do anything to save him or anyone else’s feelings.

“Carlos called my best friend names and humiliated her a few hours ago—all because I refuse to keep entertaining his useless little dick. Money is great and everything, but I can make it without wanting to throw up every five minutes.”

This time, no one laughed. They just turned to Carlos and stared at him.

Reece dropped the microphone, grabbed Lexi’s hand, and marched toward Carlos. Now she spoke to him directly without the club speakers echoing throughout the room.

“Just so we’re clear, I don’t hate you because you’re fat. I don’t hate you because you have no dick and no neck either. I hate you because you hurt my friend.” She continued, “If I see you anywhere near her or me, you will regret it. I’m not the bitch who turns the other cheek and lets shit go, so don’t fuck with me, Carlos. I won’t be this kind to you next time.”

Reece then pulled Lexi out of the club and back to the car.
