Gael's POV
My shift at Maccas was taking FOREVER to end.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see my amazing boyfriend, Marqus, waiting outside for me. Between customers he smiled at me in his darkly handsome way and tossed his head to keep his longish dark brown hair out of his eyes. I just wanted to go to him and complain about my day.
Five extremely long minutes later I walked out the back door, a smile on my face as I made my way around the building to Marqus. Suddenly, out of the shadows emerged a slay looking teen, their wispy onyx hair flowing in an invisible breeze. A dark aura surrounded them. I didn't know how or why but I had an immediate bad feeling about them.
The stranger stepped forward and began to speak.
"Look Gael, I have to tell you something important. It is in regards to your friend, Ms Ravan Goodman. She's in danger."
I frowned, mildly disturbed by the amount of information they randomly knew about my life.
"What do you mean girly, how is she in danger when she is happier than ever?"
The stranger only repeated themselves in a low voice. "She's in danger, those two boys she's been hanging around... They will hurt her like they've done to others in the past. Please, you need to warn her to stay away."
I frowned and folded my arms over my chest. "Why should I trust some rando person who literally stalked me at work?"
The stranger shrugged, "It is up to you but you may lose her if you don't do anything to stop it."
With a blink of an eye, they melted back into their shadows and I shivered uneasily. As I tried to calm my racing heart I felt arms like long snakes wrap around me from behind, constricting over my chest. I screamed and was about to faint before I turned my head to the side and saw Marqus. I quickly relaxed into his embrace, trying to ease my stupid tensed body.
"OHMIGOD BABE YOU SCARED THE LIVING DAYLIGHT OUT OF ME." I exclaimed.
Marqus laughed, a deep rumbling noise.
"Sorry shortcake, I didn't mean to." He kissed my cheek and let me go. I blushed profusely still in awe of the boy I'm dating..
"Yeah, this total creep started telling me about how Ravan was in danger because of these two boys she likes. I mean, what the actual fuck, right?" I said with a laugh.
I expected Marqus to laugh too, but when I looked at his face properly, he seemed serious.
"Those boys... they wouldn't happen to be Rylan and Rowan?"
I frowned. "Yeaaaahhhhh...?"
Marqus shook his head. "I think you should listen to that guy. I've heard some real shady stuff about them, things that Ravan wouldn't like to be involved in."
"What do you mean, babe?"
He thought for a moment before answering. "That news story from a few years ago where that girl died in the woods... witnesses saw someone with silver hair fleeing the scene, and there's only one person I've ever seen with locks that colour."
My heart sunk in my chest and my body tensed again with fear, but not for myself.
Ravan's POV
In Maths class, sitting next to Rylan who was finally not up my ass about the CAS, I recieved a message from GayGay asking to meet behind the library. He didn't use a single exclamation mark, which meant it must be urgent.
I quickly excused myself to go to the bathroom and rushed straight there, only to be met with a solemn atmosphere.
"Hey girl," Gael greeted me with none of his usual carefree demeanour.
"GayGay, what's wrong?" I asked.
Gael placed his hands on my shoulders and looked at me seriously. I could see fear in his eyes and felt it reflect into my heart. "Ravan, listen. You have to get away from Rowan and Rylan. I'm worried that they might... hurt you. I found out some stuff about their past and you really don't want to get involved."
For a moment, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My brain couldn't connect Rowan's majestic eyes and heartfelt expression as he showed me his merman form with the sense of dread clawing at the inside of my ribcage.
"... What?" I said in a small voice. "That can't be- They wouldn't do anything..."
Gael shook his head. "Remember all those years that Rylan and Rowan mistreated you, and then all of a sudden they're interested? I really want to be happy for you, but I am too scared that you'll get seriously abused."
The fear in my chest was suddenly burning hot, like it was on fire.
"I can't believe that after all this time, after I've supported you in your relationship with Marqus and all of your exes, that you can't give me the one opportunity to be happy!"
Gael looked taken aback. His eyes widened and he took his hands off my shoulders. Before he could say anything, I continued, my voice rising in volume, I did not care for the librarians who would probably come out and give us a detention before this conversation was even done.
"How many times have we gossiped over my crush on Rowan, and we never thought it would happen. Yet, here we are, my dreams have all come true, but you can't accept the fact that I've found someone else to rely on!"
"No- RayRay- That's not what I-"
"You're not the only one who's been replaced, Gael. You left me for Marqus the moment he kissed you at the party." My final words were nearly a scream.
Feeling the boiling anger turn to boiling, salty tears that flowed in a river down my cheeks, I spun around and stormed off, back to Maths class where Rylan was waiting.
He looked concerned, which was unusual, but I sat down quickly.
"Ravan, what's wrong?" He asked in a soft voice.
I shot back a curt response to his questioning, not letting anything slip about what had happened. He and Rowan didn't need to know about it.
