Chapter 45 Mayor of Western Town
TL: Kyous
âHow about it? Are you still unsatisfied with this job?â The amiable look on the teacherâs face was gone. Behind the glasses, his eyes narrowed as he stared at Odin. If Odin dared to utter the word âNoâ, he would immediately strangle Odin to death right in the office.
âItâs not that Iâm unsatisfied, but I felt these jobs are unsuitable for me.â Odin frowned. Since this teacher had stopped pretending to be friendly, there was no reason for Odin to act well-behaved too.
âAmong the three jobs I suggested, one of them should fit you, right?â Placing the teacup firmly on the table, the teacher crossed his arms as the anger on his face became more evident.
ââ¦â Odin decided to remain silent. Regardless of his reply, the teacher always had a reason to refute him. So, he might as well shut his mouth.
Seeing Odin not replying, the teacher snorted coldly, âYou must choose from one of the three. The first two were rejected by you already, then you must accept the third one, or else stop hoping to graduate. If you wish to remain at Blue Vine University, youâre welcome to try.â
In the event of persuasion turned out to be vain, the teacher ultimately decided to pressure Odin with the matter of graduation to force Odin to agree to be the mayor of the western town.
Odin was muted. He didnât agree with any of the suggestions from this teacher. He believed traps were waiting for him behind every job. Even with the slightest moment of carelessness, he would fall into whichever churchâs traps.
His hard-earned freedom from the monitoring would be gone again.
But he couldnât disobey the teacherâs order. The campus was the territory of the God of Wisdom. If one didnât agree with the arrangements by the campus, then one had to face corresponding consequences.
Now, three choices were presented in front of Odin.
The first choice was to choose not to graduate. The second choice was to pay compensation to the campus to leave the campus, so he could take control of his career. However, Odin was just a penniless student and he didnât take any part-time job at all. He almost had no savings.
Previously, he had heard that the compensation wasnât a small amount and there was also a good chance that he would be watched by someone on the side of the God of Wisdom. Besides, Odin didnât wish to have any interaction with any churches despite being uncertain which church was monitoring him.
At this moment, a final path was placed in front of him, which was to obediently be the mayor of the western town.
After silently weighing the pros and cons, Odin finally reluctantly answered, âIâm willing to be the mayor. Iâll accept the last suggestion. Now, can I have the graduation certificate and leave?â
âSure, sure.â A friendly smile appeared on the teacherâs face when he heard Odinâs agreement and gave Odin the certificate that was placed on the table. Looking at the teacherâs smile, Odin was mildly disgusted by it.
Unwilling to endure the torture, Odin left the office after receiving the certificate. On the road, Odin had a bitter expression as he was unsure what to do after reaching the town. Moreover, he wasnât familiar with that town. If he met any obstacles, no one was there to help him. He could only overcome the obstacles by relying on himself.
Nonetheless, on second thought, Odin laughed at himself sarcastically. Even at Blue Vine University, he also didnât have anyone that could help him. It was just a change of living place, there werenât any reasons to be sullen about it. Odin cheered himself up.
Fortunately, recently the west was experiencing development. The economy and other aspects were developing decently and the society was rather stable. So, the requirements for becoming a mayor were lenient. The one who were responsible for economic development and political matters were those from higher-ups. The mayor was only required to handle their jobs according to the documents issued and sign some necessary documents.
Odin was holding a file given by the teacher just now. It was an introduction to the mayoral work. After skimming through it once, he realized although he was the mayor of a town, he couldnât do many things as the influence on his hand was minimal.
Therefore, the mayor of the town was only required to have competent prowess. The higher-ups would also issue a set of handguns as a weapon and provide some money for Odin to equip himself with a horse.
It was a rather easy job and the salary was rather generous. The only uncertainty was whether or not the job was as easy as it was stated.
â¦â¦
In the Church of Death God.
âFather, as youâve wished, Iâve talked with the teachers.â A man in a white robe knelt on the ground full of politeness.
âThen, did the teacher agree? That one is his own student.â Father didnât expect it to go smoothly, but he failed to foresee the teacher would agree immediately.
âHe didnât dare to refuse. There are no benefits in going against the Church of Death God.â Kneeling on the ground, the manâs tone was emotionless. It wasnât bootlicking, but rather a sincere feeling from his guts that the Church of Death God was something very holy and powerful.
âThatâs correct too.â Father coldly smirked. âThen, what about Odin?â Raising from the chair, Father trudged over to the bedside.
The man also stood up and followed Fatherâs footsteps. Standing next to Fatherâs right side, he lowered his head and answered, âWith the graduation certificate as a threat, Odin had no choice but to be mayor of that western town.â
âBut Father, did you unearth his identity? Thatâs why you send him to the west to keep him in check?â The man asked in slight puzzlement as he failed to understand the meaning of this step by Father.
âThatâs not the case. Odinâs identity was clean. Previously, the person Iâve dispatched overheard Odinâs hostility with the Black Death Society and also wishes to search for our help. I just want him to help us a bit. If he was lucky, then sending him to work in the west might be beneficial to him.â
âWhat does this mean?â The white-robed man was still perplexed by Fatherâs words.
âMost of the Black Death Societyâs current forces were residing in the west. Besides, they are hostile to Odin. I suspect that the assault on the Black Death Societyâs stronghold on the campus was related to Odin. Their higher-ups may also suspect Odin too, causing the relationship between them even stiffer. Now, we can take advantage of their relationship and use Odin to attract most of their forces. Then, we can scoop up the whole lot in one go. Hehe, the Black Death Society certainly doesnât expect us to have this card on our sleeve.â Father was feeling rather well and patiently explained bit by bit to the man next to him.
