Chapter 418
Dr. Andrews set a strict deadline.
Chapter 418
Gratefully, I began, âDr. Andrews, thank you so much for looking after my grandma during this period. We really appreciate it!â
âNo need to thank me.â
Dr. Andrews pointed to Bryant, saying, âThank him. This guy has been pestering me for nearly two months. I hadnât planned on coming back to the States anytime soon, but my wife finally gave in to his persistence and convinced me to come take a look.â
Hearing this, I looked at Bryant in surprise.
Two months.
That meant even before I had returned to RiverCity, when he might have thought I was as good as dead, he never gave up on my grandmaâs condition.
I said, âBryant, for this⦠I really owe you one.â
âWant to really thank me? How about treating me to dinner?â
âHuh?â
I was taken aback, not expecting such a request from him.
Then, turning to Dr. Andrews, I smiled warmly, âSure, a dinner for you and Dr. Andrews it is, to try some of Vista Townâs local dishes.â
Gregory had taken me to a private restaurant two years ago, and the food was
excellent.
But then, Dr. Andrews waved it off, âNo, no, Iâve got old friends to catch up with now that Iâm back in town! I have plans tonight.â
He tapped his assistant, chuckling, âHeâs coming with me. Ms. Webster, you treat Mr. Ferguson alone. After all, heâs the real hero here. Iâm just doing my job.â
After laying out the plans for taking over Ramonaâs treatment tomorrow, Dr. Andrews left with his assistant.
na
Bryant eyed me, âGetting cold feet about that dinner?â
âNot at all.â
I owed him that much, so I said candidly, âItâs just dinner, Iâm not that petty.â
âIn that case, can I pick the restaurant?â
âSure.â
I agreed readily.
After all, it was a thankâyou dinner, so naturally, he got to choose.
As he selected the restaurant, I helped Ramona into her room, âGrandma, Iâm going out to treat someone to dinner for helping us find a reliable doctor. Iâll come see you again tomorrow, okay?â
âAlright, alright.â
Ramona agreed cheerfully, then whispered a reminder, âBut remember, Greg is your fiancé!â
âOkay, I remember.â
Fate had a twisted sense of humor.
Had I not gone missing, my life these past twenty years would have been completely different.
â¦
Bryant chose a riverside restaurant.
The ambiance and atmosphere were topânotch.
The only downside was when the waiter, all smiles, asked, âWill it be à la carte or a set menu for you? Itâs Valentineâs Day today, and we have three special couplesâ menus. Would you like to take a look?â
I instinctively refused, âA la carteâ¦â
âLetâs have a look.â
Bryant cut me off, completely at ease.
I frowned, âBryant, Iâ¦â
âItâs just dinner; it doesnât matter if itâs a set menu or not, Jane, relax.â
I was at a loss for words.
Then, he told the waiter, âWeâll take the Valentineâs Day Set C.â
The waiter confirmed, âSo, one Valentineâs Day Set C, coming right up. This set comes with a pair of coupleâs dolls, would you like them now?â
Just as he was speaking, I felt a strange gaze upon me.
Turning instinctively, I locked eyes with Edith.
The gentleman pulling out her chair was planting a kiss on her cheek, oblivious to anything else, as she looked confusedly at me.
I was about to go over and say hello when she looked away.
Bryant managed to grab my attention. âJane, anything else youâd like to add
in?â
âNothing more.â
1 sat back down.
Edith withdrew her gaze, inwardly cringing for her foolish brother.
The enemy was at their gates, and he was still playing hard to get.
Thinking this, Edith raised an eyebrow, pretended to take a selfie, but included the other table in the shot.
She opened WhatsApp and sent a message.
[At a couplesâ restaurant]
[Got the couplesâ menu too~]
That said it all.
I focused on my meal when my phone suddenly buzzed.
A friend request.
[Ms. Webster, Iâm Gregoryâs cousin, Edith]
glanced towards where Edith was sitting and accepted.
At another table, Edith hadnât even touched her phone on the side, but my âEdithâ had already sent two messages.
[Ms. Webster, Gregâs leg is acting up again, really bad. Could you possibly come over?]
[Location attached]
After reading the messages, while still looking in Edithâs direction, I deliberately replied, [Not really convenient today]
Edith was cutting her steak, never touching her phone, yet my phone buzzed
again.
[Then⦠no worries, let him suffer. Heâs been in pain so long, heâs probably used to it by now.]
[Ms. Webster, go ahead with your plans.]
[Donât mind him, his dad doesnât care, and neither does his mom.]
Three messages in a row.
I couldnât help but smile, [Iâm on my way now.]
I turned to Bryant, apologizing with a smile, âWeâre almost done, right?â
Bryant looked up, âSomething came up?â
âYes.â
âWhat is it?â
I tucked my phone into my purse, straightforward, âGregoryâs leg is hurting. I need to go see him.â
