Chapter 350
Why do I feel guilty?
I havenât really done anything wrong from start to finish.
With that thought, I lifted my gaze towards them. After Lilliana threw herself into his arms, he hesitated for a moment, seemingly uncomfortable yet not wanting to hurt Lillianaâs feelings.
He gently pushed her away, maintaining his usual indifferent tone, âSlow down, okay?â
âBut I missed you.â Lillianaâs eyes blinked as she looked up at him, her pale cheeks betraying her caution, much like a delicate little bunny. âYou left so early yesterday, itâs been almost twenty hours since I last saw you.â
Counting the hours, huh?
I reined in my thoughts, smiling slightly, just as Gregoryâs eyes met mine again. Seeing me calm and composed, without a hint of emotion, seemed to imitate him.
He let go of Lillianaâs hand and strolled over with a roguish smile, greeting the two elder ladies before lazily taking a seat on the sofa across from me.
just got backâ¦â
âOh come on, what are you saying? Lillianaâs at her own home, does Greg really need to babysit her?â
Ramona chimed in with a chuckle, glancing at me with a meaningful look. âBesides, Greg should just look after Lilliana like a sister from now on. They havenât spent much time together over the years, so thereâs not much of a bond. Weâre not sticking to oldâfashioned ways here. Let the kids decide for themselves when it comes to their feelings.â
Adah scolded him lightly, âYou rascal, could you not take a little more care of Lilliana? Sh
I was taken aback. That was quite unexpected.
Adah, catching the implication, was even more surprised, âWhat do you mean? Are you suggesting they break off the engagement? Greg. has waited for Lilliana for so many yearsâ¦â
Obviously, Gregory had discussed this with Ramona directly.
Without notifying the Ford family.
Ramona smiled, saying, âAsk the young ones themselves. Childhood bonds are special, but they might not be enough to sustain a marriage. Letâs leave this significant life decision to them.â
Aside from Christine and me, there were no outsiders here.
Gregory put down his teacup with a rare serious look. âYes, Iâve also discussed it privately with Lily, and she agrees.â
âSo this was your idea.â
S
Adah glared at him but without any real blame, turning to Lilliana, âLilliana, his word doesnât mean anything. Tell your grandmother yourself, do you agree?â
âIâ¦â Lilliana fiddled with her fingers, glancing at Gregoryâs expression, her eyes suddenly reddening. âI donât want to be just Gregâs sister, but if thatâs what Greg wants, Iâll respect his decisionâ¦â
Before she could finish, Adah smacked Gregory on the head, âListen to her! Iâm telling you, even if I agreed to break off the engagement, your grandfather would never allow it!â
âAdah, you always know best!â
Suddenly, Mrs. Myers walked in, caressing Lillianaâs cheek, âDonât worry, dear. Greg has waited for you for years, heâs just teasing. Thereâs no way heâd call off the engagement just like that.â
Lilliana murmured softly, âMomâ¦â
Gregory didnât say much, merely picking up his phone and fiddling with it.
Within minutes, I received a text from Gregory: âIâll handle this.â
I didnât reply.
