I walked to the Maternity hospital. iIt was only a slight diversion from school. As I approached I could quickly figure out where 'under the second leg of the maze was'. The hospital had a play ground for young children outside it and one of the play items was a finger maze in the shape of the Half brain half maze symbol. There under the second post holding it up hidden in the dust was the lid to a metal box. It didn't move when I grabbed it. There wasn't any visible key hold but there must have been some mechanism to keep it shut. This was another test to keep the little kids out. The Maternity hospital sounded like it had a few people in it. I couldn't just find a rock and break my way in. Plus I didn't want to waste time getting home. I sat back wondering if I should leave it or find out what was wrong with Mom and Eve.
It was getting dark and the pearl diamond necklaces of sparkling satellite junk emerged like a huge ark in the sky above me.
I looked at the maze they used as a 'dig here' message. I noticed it had a deep hole in its center. I reached in and felt a button. The button was too deep for any child's finger to reach. Pressing the button nothing happened. The button had to be it. I looked again, In fact, there was more than one button hole. I started at the maze entrance then followed it pressing to more buttons as I went. Finally, I reached the center and when I pressed the last button there was a click in the box. Now the metal lid came open easily. I reached in and found a card.
'LOOK BEHIND YOU' it said.
I looked around nothing. Below the card was a letter. I opened it, I recognized the hand writing. It was dad's.
'DEAR SEEKER.' it began 'YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN MET BY NOW. IF NOT IT MEANS OUR CELL HAS BEEN COMPROMISED BY THE ENEMY:-(
CELLS DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER. THE ONLY HELP WE CAN GIVE IS TO GO TO THE BRIDGE OF LOCKS Â IN PARIS. USE THE KEY ON THE BLUE BOX. SORRY, WE DON'T KNOW ANY OTHER CLOSER CELLS. GOOD LUCK'
With the letter in the envelope was a small key. Just when I thought things were going right for me. I felt rather abandoned at that point. So I continued the long sullen trip home. While I walked I wondered how to get to Paris. Perhaps they meant Paris Texas. This was terrible, it felt like a dead end. I decided the best thing to do was to get home to Mom and sort my life out from there.
