Chapter 43 - In The Dark
Scarlett's POV
I walked through the office, frowning slightly as I noticed everyone was behaving strangely, either giving me one word answers or avoiding me altogether.
What the hell?
Shrugging it off, I knocked on Jasper's office door before letting myself in.
"Hey, baby," he grinned as I strode over to his desk, folding my arms.
"Don't you hey, baby, me, Jasper Queen," I started as he raised an eyebrow. "Perhaps you could explain to me why everyone who works at this fine establishment is avoiding me like the plague?"
"How would I know that?" He scoffed, running his fingers through his dark hair. "And even if I did, I wouldn't tell you."
"I think you would," I smirked placing my hands on his desk, leaning forward slightly as his eyes flickered to my chest.
"I doubt it," he muttered, averting his gaze.
"Oh, but, I can be very persuasive," I spoke softly as I walked up behind him, placing a lingering kiss upon his neck.
"Don't you have any work to be getting on with?" He grumbled childishly as my hands slid down his clothed chest.
"I'm all finished, Boss," I whispered in his ear. "I could work overtime if that's what you would like?"
"Everyone is working overtime tonight, Scarlett," he informed, grabbing my waist as I fell onto his lap.
"Why? Until when?" I questioned him as he shrugged.
"Until twelve thirty," he replied.
"Since when was keeping your employees working until past midnight even legal?" I muttered as he chuckled.
"I'm Jasper Queen, the -"
"High profile and extravagantly wealthy CEO who cries everytime he watches Titanic and still listens to The Backstreet Boys, trust me, I know who you are." I laughed as he glared at me. "And I used to think you were the one with the heart made of stone."
"I don't know how I put up with you," he sighed as I gave him a pointed look.
"Well if you'd rather have some brainless, plastic bitch hanging off your arm, be my guest," I began. "I'd quite like to get to know Scott from downstairs a little better, anyway."
"Scott Cade from Logistics?" He barked irritably as I nodded.
"I'd love to get to know Mr Cade very well, actually," I sighed dreamily, Jasper's reddening face certainly not going unnoticed.
In a matter of seconds, everything on his desk was pushed off before I found myself on top of it, laying on my back as I looked up at him.
"Is that so?" He growled possessively as his tall figure towered over me.
"I haven't decided yet," I smiled sweetly at him although my heart was pounding loudly inside my chest.
"I'll give you something to decide," he smirked as he unzipped my dress allowing it to fall to the floor while he discarded of his pants and boxers.
"You haven't locked the door," I told him as his smirk widened.
Leaning in closer, he spoke against my lips. "Well, then. Let's hope Scott Cade doesn't need to speak to his boss within the next sixty minutes."
~
My God, Jasper was unrelenting, unforgiving, merciless, in fact, I thought as I clamped my thighs together, every square inch of my body burning.
Note to self: my boyfriend is a walking, talking, arrogant ego not to be made jealous at any given moment.
But was I actually going to take heed of this personal note to self?
Hell, no.
I enjoyed his unholy possessive side way too much to pass up an opportunity to get him riled up like that again. God, he had me feeling like a nun at a one man strip show - although it was certainly one hell of a show this stripper put on.
Groaning aloud, I looked at the stack of files and papers my oh-so-courteous boyfriend had left for me at ten o'clock at night as I rested my head on my desk, feeling very tired just before my phone vibrated from my bag.
"Hi, Aunt Carla," I greeted cheerily. "Are you okay?"
"Hi, Scarlett, love," she replied. "Yes, yes, I'm fine!"
"Well, what can I do for you?"
"I just wanted to wish you happy birthday, love," she told me as I smiled. "I know I'm fifteen minutes early but I keep dozing off every two seconds. I can't keep up!"
"Thanks, Aunt Carla."
"So what have you and my imbecile of a nephew got planned for tomorrow?" She asked.
"Oh, um, nothing much, I guess," I told her, shrugging. "We'll probably just stay in and celebrate at home."
I frowned as I realized we hadn't even spoken about my birthday.
I wonder if Jasper had forgotten, I thought as I rolled my eyes.
It wasn't a big deal even if he did, I wasn't all that keen about my birthday anyway.
"Hmm, I hope you have a lovely time, sweetheart," Aunt Carla said as if she knew something I didn't.
"I will do. Thanks for calling Aunt C."
"Goodnight, dear."
Frowning, I glanced at the clock and decided I would finish the rest of the paperwork on Monday. I grabbed my purse before locking up and leaving my office, stepping into the dark, unlit corridor.
"What the fück?" I muttered to myself as I used the flashlight on my phone, walking towards Jasper's office before realizing that it was locked and, not only that, but I had left the damned keys in my drawer.
Shaking my head, I made my way downstairs before attempting to open the doors but for some reason, they, too, were locked.
While I tried again, the lights suddenly flickered on as I turned around to see every employee at JXQ yelling happy birthday with Jasper stood in front of the crowd, grinning.
"Oh my God," I breathed, as Jasper walked towards me, holding me by my waist.
"Happy Birthday, Scarlett," he smiled, dipping my body slightly as he pressed a passionate kiss to my lips while my co-workers clapped enthusiastically.
"So, that's why they were all so quiet?" I asked Jasper as he nodded.
"I threatened to fire them if you found anything out," he shrugged as I frowned at him.
"Don't be a dïck," I chastised him as he smirked.
"Happy Birthday, Scarlett," a new voice spoke from behind us as we turned around to see Scott holding a bunch of flowers.
"Thank you, Scott," I grinned as Jasper's grip tightened around my waist causing me grind my heel into his foot as he winced.
"These are from myself and Dakota," Scott smiled as I took the flowers from him before noticing Jasper's face becoming curious.
"Dakota as in, Dakota from Marketing, Dakota?" He questioned Scott who coughed uncomfortably since he knew of the company's no dating fellow employees policy.
That policy went out of the window as soon as I agreed to be my bosses girlfriend, though.
"Um... Yeah, I mean I'm really so-"
"That's great, Scott!" I beamed at him. "So, I take it you took my advice then?"
"Oh, yes, thanks so much for that, Scarlett," Scott smiled. "I took her to the game last week, I've never met a girl who loves football as much as she does, it's crazy."
"Well, I'm happy for you, Scott," I grinned at him.
"Thanks, Scarlett, see you at the party." he said before nodding at Jasper. "Mr Queen."
"Cade." Jasper gave him a hard glare as I smacked his chest.
"Behave."
"You, my little vixen, are so evil you put Voldemort to shame," he said, glaring at me.
"Might want to be careful there, Jasp," I warned him. "Your inner Harry Potter fanboy might be exposed."
"Very funny," he retorted sarcastically.
"I try."
"Listen, Scarlett, I've paid out for everybody's ticket to that new club in honor of your birthday," he began. "Now I know, it's-"
"Of course I'm coming, Jasper," I interrupted him. "You went through all this trouble for me, so of course I'm going to come."
"Are you sure you-"
"You can stay at home then. I don't mind getting down and dirty on the dancefloor with some handsome men," I shrugged nonchalantly. "You can stay at home and catch up on your Harry Potter fan fiction."
"Oh, that smart little mouth of yours is going to be screaming for me tonight, sweetheart," he smirked before turning to the crowd behind us. "Cars have been hired to escort you all to the club in five minutes. You're all goddamn lucky it's a Friday tonight; if any of you turn up drunk into Monday, you can bet I will fire your sorry asses before you can even remember this conversation."
"What he means to say is, enjoy the party and thank you all for your patience tonight," I corrected him as they all laughed before quickly filtering out of the building.
"Ready?" Jasper asked, taking my hand as we left a few minutes after everyone had gone.
"Thank you for this, Jasper," I smiled up at him.
"Scarlett, the club party is only the appetizer," he smirked. "You wait until you see what I've got ready for you."
A few seconds later, a limo pulled out in front of us as I raised an eyebrow at Jasper.
"I left Elena in charge of the goddamn car and she picks a limo," he grumbled as we sat inside.
"I love it," I told him as he leaned back, a sly grin on his face.
"Elena picked out a dress and some other girly shit for you," he said handing over a box.
"Sometimes, I swear I'm conversing with a sixteen year old little boy," I muttered as I took the dress out of the box, before removing my own dress and taking my hair out of its bun.
"Come here." Jasper ordered, laying on his back across the seat as I straddled him.
"We'll be late," I told him as he shrugged.
"Round two?"
"Jasper, honey, round two happened at seven o'clock this morning," I murmured softly. "This is round ten."
"Ten just so happens to be my lucky number," he breathed against my naked breasts as I shivered.
"Well, we'd better make it count then, hadn't we?"
