Chapter 25 - Teamwork
Jasper's POV
It had been around three days since Scarlett had officially moved in with me and, of course, I was thrilled at the fact that my girlfriend was finally living with me, but I just couldn't shake off that God awful feeling that there was something else going on with her.
She was a woman of steel and I knew it would take more than demanding answers from her to get her to spill.
But on the flip side, what if her wanting a change really was true?
Maybe I was just over thinking it.
Yes, I was just over thinking it, I thought vehemently as I ran my fingers through my hair for the millionth time today.
"Jasp?" Her sexy voice called out to me from outside my office door.
"Hey, baby, come in," I replied as she opened the door before closing it softly behind her.
"So, Colton Spector just sent his aide over to close the deal between JXQ and Spector Technology and later this evening, you have a very important meeting with Cassandra Bass who is interested in selling her company to you," she read from the list of papers, her glasses perched sexily at the tip of her nose as she looked up at me expectantly. "As for now, you have seven meetings scheduled starting in an hour in the conference room and in ten minutes, a meeting with Jeremy Evans."
"We are on the ball today, aren't we, Miss Valentina?" I teased as she scoffed.
"Please. When am I not on the ball?"
"True. You're always on my ball," I winked as her cheeks turned red.
"I still have yet to make an honest man out of you," she sighed, shaking her head. "Oh, and before I forget, I'm heading out of town to go and check up on Melissa tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow morning."
"I thought you said that was next week?" I asked, frowning.
"It was supposed to be, but I thought I'd get it over and done with this weekend," she replied, her voice cracking slightly.
"In that case, do you want Smith to take you?"
"No!" She said quickly as I raised an eyebrow. "I mean, no, thank you. I can take myself."
"Are you sure everything's okay?" I questioned as I stood up, moving towards her.
"Yes, everything's fine," she murmured as I kissed her forehead.
"I hope for your sake that's true otherwise a simple spänk is going to be the least of your worries," I whispered in her ear as she shivered.
"See you in a bit, Jasper," she said quietly as she walked out of my office.
We had had our first major argument as a couple over her returning to work as my secretary which thankfully ended on a good note.
"I want to continue working, Jasper!" She yelled as I glared at her.
"I can give you anything you want, why do you need to come back?" I yelled back as she sighed in frustration.
"Well, I want to keep my job as your secretary, why can't you accept it?"
"Because, I don't want you working for me. You are my girlfriend and that's all I want you to be," I told her wrapping my arm around her waist, pulling her onto the bed.
"We can still continue to have our relationship, Jasper. Our work doesn't define us," she said softly as I sighed, kissing the top of her head.
She had me wrapped around her little finger, didn't she?
"Fine," I relented. "But I want some of that relationship in the office too."
"Okay, fine," she laughed loudly at my anger.
"I want to spänk you so hard for this," I muttered, closing my eyes as I felt a small body climb on top of me.
"You have my permission," she whispered as I felt myself stir considerably before I flipped her over so her back was to me.
"You're going to wish you hadn't said that, baby," I growled, pressing myself into her lower back as she møaned quietly before I slid her wët panties off of her slender legs.
I grinned wolfishly as I recalled the happenings of that night. She made it incredibly difficult to resist her and although I told her I would wait forever, I just wasn't sure how much longer forever was going to be.
I grabbed the files my sexy secretary had left for me from my desk before I proceeded to make my way down to the conference room.
"Miss Valentina?" I called out, peering my head around her office door.
"Yes, Mr Queen?"
"I'll need you in the conference room to take notes," I lied as she grinned slightly, knowing I was lying.
"I'll bet you do," she replied, placing her glasses on top of her head before she gathered her folders, following me out of her office.
Her tight pencil skirt clung perfectly to her shapely backside, her stilettos accentuating her long, slender legs and her sheer cream blouse was unbuttoned down to her cleavage - she was absolutely captivating.
"God, the things I would do to you once you were out of that tight little skirt," I murmured as I bent myself towards her level.
"Jasper, not now!" She snapped quietly, opening the double doors of the conference room.
"We had a deal, Miss Valentina," I reminded her as she turned around to glare at me. "No one is even here yet."
"There are cameras in this room, smart-äss!" She hissed, taking a seat as I followed her.
"Ah, yes. That is true," I murmured thoughtfully as she sighed in relief. "You wait until everyone's gone. Keep smirking, honey."
"Thank God I'll be out of here before everyone else then," she retorted as I laughed.
"Who said you're leaving before anyone else? I'm still your boss and I say that my secretary cannot leave until eight in the evening."
I almost choked on my saliva when I saw her horrified expression.
"I hate you," she snapped as I grinned.
"I love you, too." I replied as she rolled her eyes.
"Mr Queen?" A muffled male voice sounded from outside as I stood up to open the door.
"Mr Evans, please, come in," I greeted politely, shaking his hand as he took a seat opposite myself and Scarlett.
"Hi, I'm Jeremy." He said to Scarlett, his eyes zoning in on her cleavage. "I believe we spoke not too long ago?"
I wanted to punch his lights out for ogling Scarlett like she was simply a piece of meat.
"Yes, we did, Mr Evans." She responded in a clipped tone as I bit my tongue.
"Anyway, about the deal," I began. "It makes sense for our companies to merge its respective assets since -"
"How about something better," Jeremy interrupted. "You can have the assets and anything else you require for one small thing."
"Which is?" Scarlett and I questioned at the same time.
"Her." He gestured his head towards Scarlett. "One night with her and you can have whatever you want."
"Sorry, could you repeat that, Sir?" Scarlett spluttered in disbelief.
"Sir?" Jeremy repeated, smirking. "I love her already. Submissive ones are always the best. Clearly you haven't got much of a brain up there though, sweetheart. I said, young Jasper, here, can have whatever he wants from my company for a tiny fee - you."
"Get the fück out of my office, Evans," I snarled angrily as he tipped his head back and laughed.
"Don't get your panties in a twist, Jasper, mate," he chuckled. "Not like you two are fückbuddies or anything, am I right?"
That's it, I thought, pÃssed as hell.
I grabbed him by his collar and slammed him onto the large glass table as he hissed in pain.
"Son of a bïtch," I barked, tightening my grip around his skinny neck. "You take yourself out of my building right now. If I ever hear you talk to or about my secretary, I am going to slit your throat so slowly you'll wish I had put a bullet through your brain - got it?"
"Yes," he muttered as I released my grip over him, a large dark bruise starting form on the left side of his face.
"Mr Evans?" Scarlett called out before he opened the door. "If Mr Queen's terms were not clear enough, the recording I have of this conversation may very well find itself falling into the hands of a certain Mrs Evans, who I'm pretty sure won't think twice in getting her lawyers involved."
"Bitch," he snapped as Scarlett gave him a wave.
He slammed the door shut as I ordered for security to ensure he left the building straight away.
What a meeting, I thought dryly.
"We make an amazing team," Scarlett giggled as we left the conference room.
"We really do," I smiled at her. "You're perfect, do you know that?"
"I know," she smirked, fixing my tie.
"And humble, too," I remarked sarcastically.
"I must get that from you," she shrugged as I grabbed her by her slender waist, dipping her body slightly.
"Anything else you'd like to get from me?" I asked as she laughed.
"Get off, Casanova," she swatted my arm before I released her from my grasp.
"Only because I have something waiting for me at home," I told her as she raised an eyebrow.
"What would that be?"
"Chains, whips, handcuffs, gag-ties," I whispered huskily as she stared at me, her eyes almost popping out of their sockets as I burst out laughing. "I'm joking! God, you are so easy it's unbelievable!"
"You à sshole!" She hissed quietly as I sobered up.
"It's a surprise. For you." I said as she eyed me suspiciously. "Now, get back to work otherwise I'll have you work overtime, on me."
"God, Jasper! Get out!" She said disgustedly as I laughed my way out of her office.
"Morning, Jasper," Smith greeted as I sat into my car. "You're in a good mood."
"Morning, Smith. Yes, I am." I replied as he smirked at me. "What?"
"I know that look. You're head over heels in love, Boss."
"You're right," I admitted, allowing my ego to deflate. "I am."
I'm in love with the best thing this world has to offer and she's mine.
"I'm glad for you, Jasp. And any blind fool can see how much she loves and adores you too."
"I don't know about that," I muttered as his eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"Don't be an idiot, Jasper," he scolded. "She loves you, a lot."
"Maybe, but she hasn't actually told me explicitly." I admitted.
"She's been through a lot during the past few months, she's bound to feel nervous about confessing something huge like this."
"True," I shrugged as he parked up outside my house. "Wait here for ten minutes, I'll be back."
I quickly left the car and let myself into the house, settling my keys on top of my cabinet.
Just as I was about to reach for the package left on my table, I noticed a letter addressed to Scarlett from her bank. I had wondered how much she had sold her apartment for but I didn't want to invade her privacy.
I'm pretty sure she wouldn't mind though, I thought as I picked the envelope up. I would tell her when I got back to the office anyway.
I peeled back the flap and took out the paper, noticing that the three hundred and fifty thousand dollars from her apartment sale alongside one hundred and fifty thousand from her salary had been taken out and transferred to another account. This meant the current balance in her account would be no more than twenty-five hundred dollars.
My eyebrows knitted together in confusion as I wondered where the hell her money was going. I grabbed a pen and quickly scrawled down the details of the account where the money had been transferred to.
My gut instinct told me this had something to do with the reason why Scarlett had been acting a little strange recently but I didn't want to pry to find out.
Too late, my conscience taunted as I sighed in frustration.
I was going to find out what she was hiding from me before it was too late or before she got hurt.
I put the paper back into the envelope and slid it into my suit pocket before retrieving the parcel and making my way back to the car.
Something was wrong, I could sense it.
Something was terribly wrong.
