Chapter 100 of 100

Extra Storyline: Finale

Karma's Twin Sister2,860 words~15 min read

We were still in primary school back then, there was nothing particularly different about you compared to the rest of our classmates. A bright child, eager to learn, playful and just... normal.

And then you just disappeared, vanished from existence. No one questioned, no one noticed, no one cared... I also didn't asked but it wasn't because I didn't care, it was because I was scared to find out the answer. I didn't want to feel crazy, being the only one who cares.

Four years has passed before you appeared in my life again.

This was the beginning of our story. No that's not right.

This was the beginning of my story. Not hers-

Ours comes later.

I was greeted by those enchanting eyes, nothing could escape them. Those eyes that change unpredictably, bright or hazy, they were breathtaking.

Your features were still immature but something about your expression bothers me. They were filled with indifference, unbothered by everything around.

You always looked unsatisfied at grades that normal kids would be grateful to achieve. Whenever grades for exams are posted you would just glare at them. At first, I thought you were upset that you didn't get placed a desirable rank, but it became clear, that wasn't the case.

This will happen every time grades are posted, the way you looked at them send chi down my spine. The murderous glint in your eyes and the way you clench your teeth. It was as if you were threatening to bury someone.

After scrutinizing over the ranks, your features relax as you calm yourself down with a much-needed sigh.

Out of the corner of your eye, you will never fail to spot and turn to greet me with an ominous smile. I must say I was greatly disturbed as you walked away.

What did I do to make you put a death flag on me? Was the question that often pass through my mind countless times whenever you take the time to glare or glance at me. I was glad to know that no one was hurt that day.

This routine continued for the remainder of our primary school life. It was unsettling at first but like anything weird one would get used to these antics if exposed to it long enough.

On the final exam that we took to decide our junior high life was when you finally confronted me.

"What do you think of when you see this board?" She asks staring at the first and second places.

I stayed silent. What could I have said to her? That I want her spot at the top. I can't possibly tell her that right?

"What school do you plan to go to?" She didn't seem bothered at all by my unwillingness to answer.

"Kunugigaoka."

"Hm..." She pondered over my answer for a while before nodding thoughtfully. "Maybe I'll see you there." She murmurs mysteriously.

"What?" Did I hear that wrong?

"It might be fun to have a familiar face around, instead of the pesky flies you see everyday." She replies.

Did you just call your classmates 'flies'?

"why..." am I part of the reason you're going?

She stared for a while before her eyes fluttered away from me, also confused by what she just said. "It's because you are the only one who seriously chased after me." Giving me the same ominous smile, she walked away. "Come and reach my level, won't you? It's lonely up here..."

Over the summer you seem to have just changed. You still had that trademark indifference but it was just different in junior high.

You looked down on everything, with those piercing eyes, nothing could be placed within them. I didn't bother you because I see no need.

But even if I don't bother myself with you, you relentlessly seek trouble from me.

"I was bored," was the excuse you always gave me. You have no idea how much of a nuisance you were back then, or maybe you did know but didn't care. Either way, you continued to be the source of my daily headaches.

You were so annoying yet never once have I truly resented you for that. If I had I would've pushed you away long ago.

The day you fainted at the library, I panicked... my mind went completely blank. All I could do was watch, as you cried out for help, begging the person in your nightmare, apologizing.

It was a good thing my body moved faster than my head and immediately brought you to the infirmary and laid you down on to the nearest bedding. As soon as I let go, you started struggling violently, I didn't know what could cause you to act so intensely but I knew that if I don't do something you could get seriously hurt.

Only by holding you, did you calm down a bit. You continued to cling on to me for another half an hour before your grip slowly weakened, then gently laid you down to rest.

Only after your brother came in to pick you up later that day was when I realized how utterly pathetic I am. Even though you were so irritating and ceaselessly bothered me every day since primary school, I felt at a loss. When you were begging for help I couldn't reach out my hands to you I couldn't even stop you from crying.

Even though we consider each other rivals, I know nothing about you.

So many emotions flooded through me on that day, it surprised me that someone who rarely shows emotion to suddenly collapse and show such a weak side. And also upset at myself for realizing this fact. With no knowledge of your trauma, how could I tread carelessly, what I think will help you, might end up making the situation for you worse than it already is.

All could do was sit there like a bystander, as you physically fight your invisible enemy. It hurts me to remember the way you gripped onto me unsure whether to accept or push me away it was an eternal battle.

The next day however you returned to your daily routine of continuous harassment. As though what happened that day never happened, it really pissed me off how all that worrying from the day before was in vain, leaving me with tons of unanswered questions.

But I wasn't the type to pry. Since you don't ever seem to want to mention that day it will just stay a mystery.

Well, at least every day was eventful, and the final exam rolled right by.

Once again you frowned at me after staring at the leaderboard. Although your name never appeared once, you still found a way to look at me with disapproving eyes.

"Is it still not good enough for you?" I asked.

"I said get to my level, not first place." She shook her head then gave me a look that vaguely resembles that of a disappointed parent staring at a failing report card. "Oh sorry, I forgot, it's Former first place."

"I don't think I'll ever be able to defeat you."

"What? You were planning on beating me?" She looked shocked at my statement. Her shoulders were trembling as she tried her best to hold in her laughter. She failed. "You really are the best."

"Well, I'll see you at graduation." She fled after saying her farewells.

***********

The day of graduation was interesting, to say the least.

"That was a nice speech back there. How long did it take you to come up with it." She playfully smirks.

"Made it up on the spot." I answered, copying her tone.

"Right, an unprepared leader. How reassuring." She nodded while sighing dramatically.

"Better than a genius that's useless to society." She raised a brow at what I said, but before she could retort. Her brother interrupted our chat.

"Will you two love bird quit flirting, you're holding up traffic." The audacity of this guy to call us a couple. Shouldn't you say something to your brother...

What happened next was beyond my imagination.

Seriously I can't believe you would kiss me in front of so many people. I was so shocked by your boldness that I almost didn't catch the words you whispered to me afterward.

"Then hurry up and drag this 'genius' off her high horse." Mischief flashed across her eyes as her smirk grew wider, just like that she defeated me once again.

High school started with plenty of rumors flying about, the main topic of gossip is definitely about us dating. which isn't true!

But I don't care for the rumors. The first half of the semester I felt a vague sense of strain coming from you but other than that it was normal. Nothing in particular has changed, skipping class, showing up last minute to finish up exams, using me as a personal errand boy... yes nothing has changed.

So why doesn't it feel right? My suspicion came true a month later, when you exploded.

It was only later when your brother explained that you were in a state of depression for a while.

"Hey I got food and your boyfriend." Karma announced as he entered the house.

"Please tell me we're not eating him as dessert." She grimaced.

"So you are against eating him but not against me calling him your boyfriend." Karma mused.

"That was going to be my next retort." she rolled her eyes. "What are we eating?"

"Take outs."

"You expect me to eat poorly portioned meals prepared by strangers?" She said sarcastically.

"Yes"

"Okay" She answers with a shrug.

It was good that she was back to normal, even if that means sacrificing my sanity a bit it was all good.

"I thought we agreed I'd only stayed for the food." I said.

"Too bad," She said, crossing her leg as she gently pet a cat on her lap. "Stay for a bit. It won't kill you."

"Sure it won't, and what is with all these cats?" I asked as multiple furry felines started walking all over me. The whole room is just filled with cats.

"Fluff therapy... I think? I only keep them in this room though, leaving the window open obviously."

"Of course." I gave up trying to figure out this brother-sister duo a long time ago.

It's been awhile since we talked just the two of us even if there are cats everywhere.

"He didn't have to die..." she murmurs.

At this point in time, you were still feeling the effects of your teacher's death. But none of your other classmates was this bothered by it.

"It was his choice to die," She tilted her head up towards the ceiling light. "But still it didn't feel right. Why didn't it feel right?" She asked with a frown, almost angry. "I should've participated in the 'kill' or 'save' Korosensei Civil War, why did I choose neutral..."

I have no idea what she was talking about. Civil War? Did the whole class fight over whether Korosensei should live or die?

"So the results were 'to kill'?"

Those blank eyes suddenly flashed with a hint of her past mischievous nature. "No, the results were 'to save'."

"Then why" are you upset? Was what I would've said if I didn't cut myself off. The answer was fairly obvious. The death of Korosensei caused her to regret every decision she's ever made and in turn sent her into depression.

"I don't know. I helped with the space mission I suppose. But the Reaper incident... I could've done something like going after them and properly disposing of his body. Then Shiro wouldn't have got the chance to use him and the final battle wouldn't have happened." She covered her eyes with an arm, despairing over the past.

"Could've, would've, should've... No point worrying about the past." Seeing the usual confident person become such a mess is upsetting. "I don't know what you've been through but sounds to me like you had fun. At least compared to my boring junior high life."

Tears well up in her eyes with the first sign of life he'd seen in weeks. "What do you mean boring? You had the world's number one genius as your rival." She laughs.

"Yeah yeah,"

Like I said my sanity is suffering.

She was back to normal after that so all is well, mostly.

There are many instances I can remember between then and now but the most notable was the fourteenth of February later that year. Where you broke into tears when you saw me accepting chocolate from another girl.

Even though you know fully well that each year I am given an absurd amount of gifts, you still reacted in such a way. It really came as a shock to me.

It was like every other year... another (side character) classmate would approach and offer me gifts. This time it was obligatory chocolate given by a fellow student council member. It wasn't 'heartfelt' gifts so there wasn't a need to turn it down. But as soon as I accepted the wrapped candy, I heard a thump on the floor behind me.

Turning around, I saw a basket covered by a cloth with a card addressed to me dropped on the floor.  And you standing with streams of tears rolling down your face staring at the floor. The situation was awkward enough as it is but I shouldn't have underestimated just how much worse you twins can make things.

"And right in front of your girlfriend too." Karma stepped out from behind to comfort his sister. "You made her cry. Tsk tsk, how shameful."

I threw a glare at him, Karma knows full well what is going on. But he's purposely causing a misunderstanding.

I did what any insane person would do... I pecked her on the lips before taking the basket and left. But not before expressing my confusion, "What in the world did you do to me?"

I asked that question quite often during that time. We are barely friends let alone dating so why did I do that to you? Was it revenge for that prank you pulled during graduation or did I really hold such desires for you? None of my questions were answered not even to this day.

"I'm surprised you accepted her confession for you." Karma said one day during our last year of highschool.

"You were 'surprised'," I frowned at his statement. "I nearly had a heart attack."

"I mean I saw it coming." Karma rolled his eyes as he poked a straw through his drink. "After all you two love birds can't go by a single day without flirting with each other... thrice."

"You call that flirting?"

"What else would it be."

"The incident when she knocked down my bedroom door, claiming that it's rotting?"

"Clearly an excuse to come see you at questionable hours," He immediately replied.

"When she claimed that she had misplaced the club's budget?"

"Also an excuse, you know she has an extremely good memory right." Karma rolled his eyes again. "Another one of her ploys for her to spend time with you."

"Constantly stealing my food?"

"Is that a hard question?" Karma shook his head.

"Drawing a summoning circle right in the center of the school yard?"

"Look, she just wants your attention."

"By drawing a summoning circle?" I crossed my arms. The other nonsense I can handle but this is just utter bullshit.

"She wants you to take notice that her stupidity is skyrocketing by the second. So you will have no choice but to sit her down and have a much needed chat together." Karma frowns. "I swear, you are so dense, light bends around you."

He is right though I am a moron and I am dense. But can you blame me, all you do is cause me headache and we constantly argue at every turn.

Now that I think about it, Karma has always been the peacemaker between us. Maybe we should give him tiny wings with bows and arrows... on second thought let's not do that. Great now that image is going to haunt my dreams for the next whatever weeks.

All good relationship needs to suffer a little.

I don't know what your definition of 'a little', but I certainly had enough. We did our best to patch things up and now that I'm more mature than my teenage self I must say the stuff we argue over are just so trivial.

At least we got a good laugh from the experience.

**************

The seed you planted in my heart, grew during highschool unrelenting and fast, it desired nourishment, nourishment that I chose ignore. But it was already far too late for it to be ignored, and with a single kiss, it blossomed. Years had passed since then and I can safely say that one seed turned into a field of bloomig florals.

I have fallen in love with you again and again and none of that passion I felt the first time had ever wilted.

Did you know that? (F/n)?
