148 Chapter 148 – Unexpected attack

“Uncle, run!” Elle shook his shoulders.

the Duke listened, calmly looking around, unknown to them they had already walked into a less crowded alleyway. The plethora of people who were around them had mysteriously scatted away as if they knew what was going to happen.

“Stay close,” he gestured for Haily to get close to him. the other two guards also unsheathed their swords and were ready to fight

“No!! you mustn’t! Uncle, leave! please he will kill you! leave!!!!” she kept screaming loudly.

Duke looked around. Running as not an option anymore. They were surrounded in all directions. Even if they wanted to leave, they would have to at least break the formation the enemy had created. The best option was to fight, distract and create an opening for the kids to escape.

He mentally calculated everything. He handed Aiden and Elle another guard and gestured for him to stay close to Haily.

“Uncle! Please listen to me! You can’t!”

“don’t worry about this dear. I’ll take care of this.” the Duke cast her a soothing smile and unsheathed his weapon. It’s been so long since he had to use his sword and when he held the hilt his sword excitedly shook in his hands. “don’t be too excited. We are not going on a killing spree.’ He slightly stroked the body of his sword.

He then waited. Waited for the enemy to walk out of the dark.

Feng who was deeply asleep on Haily’s shoulder was awakened by a loud beeping sound. the game system was beeping so loudly that she felt disoriented for a second. She couldn’t tell head from toe. ‘What is it? Why is it making such a loud noise...’

‘ehhhh!!!! What is the fucking thing! I thought the game had died off! fuck!’ she hurriedly struggled in Hailey’s arms.

“Please stay still miss, we are facing an enemy attack,” Haily warned her softly.

‘Enemy attack? From where?” she looked around. she couldn’t see anyone or anything around them. It was so eerie to look at the streets so empty like that. “who is it?”

A dark figure cloaked in black walked out of the dark streets opposite them,

Feng took a good look at his face. ‘Hey isn’t that the guy who tried to steal my sword? Is he here to steal it back?’ she had already made sure to tie the sword to her waist band securely. Her hands touched it for assurance.

“No!! uncle! Please...” Elle’s cries echoed loudly.

Feng peered at her. The young girl was hysterical. She was sobbing and crying in the guard’s arms begging their uncle to run away.

‘What the heck happened while I was asleep.’

She pinched Ethan awake.

The boy looked around dazedly. “Listen, I think we are under attack. Elle, wake up Aiden as well!” she shouted.

But Elle was super out of it. She was jumping and biting the guard’s hands trying to get to her uncle.

“Elle! What did you see!”

Elle looked her way eyes wide open. “uncle... he is... is in danger.”

Feng’s heart almost stopped at this. Elle’s premonition ability has been scarily accurate.

she worriedly looked at her uncle. “it’s just one guy we can run away uncle.” She softly whispered as she knew her uncle can definitely hear them.

“We are surrounded, miss,” Haily added.

Feng was super shocked. ‘Where?’ she looked around.

Just as she did, she saw six other black-cloaked person’s walking out of the shadows. Each and every one of them were the same height and had the same garbs as the one she had seen. They did not look like different people at all.

“He is multiplying his body to attack us in all directions,” Haily informed her.

“You can do that?” she had never heard of seen an ability like this. it was so eerie that it freaked her out genuinely. “Uncle ...” she worriedly looked at him.

“Haily and the other two. Leave with the kids as soon as I create an opening. Do not look back... go home directly. This is an order! Got it?!”

“yes!” the three guards said in unison

“no! uncle... uncle!” Elle wailed.

“Elle, calm down.” Feng shouted.

Elle looked her way shaking her head. “how can I...”

“Listen, your future can be changed. We will change it. Haily... do not leave. les all fight back.”

Haily shook her head. “An order is absolute.” She said through gritted teeth.

“it is not! I order you to stay with uncle we will face this guy together! Right guys,”

Ethan ad Aiden who had awakened nodded. Ethan stood ready with his newly brought sword while Aiden just stood ether with his hands in his pocket.

Feng worriedly glanced at the black-cloaked guy. ‘But if we could solve this problem without any conflict, it could be the best.’

“You are here for the sword, right?”

The black-cloaked man’s head turned slowly her way.

“I can give it to you. but you have to leave us be. You don’t know who you are facing. My uncle is the strongest in this kingdom. You won’t be able to take him out.”

The masked man chuckled. “Initially I came for the sword. But now I’m very much interested on how powerful this kingdom’s powerful mage and a warrior is.”

Feng’s words backfired. She bit her lips anxiously. ‘What to do! What do I do!’

Haily suddenly lifted both Ethan and her up in her arms.

“What are you doing!”

Right then the Duke charged at the masked man slashing through his robe. the move was so fast that it was only a blue blur. If her uncle had not worn any bright clothes he would have completely blended into the darkness by now.

The masked man laughingly attacked him back.

Haily and the other three warriors took this chance to run out of the alleyway with them!

“wait you said you will help uncle ! Haily! Wait!’

“Sorry miss. This is for your safety!”

Feng felt her heart drop at this. Elle had already predicted this ad if they don’t change anything then uncle really will....

“no!” she struggled in Haily’s arms. “no! let go! Haily et go”

Haily and the other three ran around in the alleyway. just behind them the two dark figures chased after them.

“we can’t run around in a group. Separate!” Haily shouted.

All three of them split up and ran into different directions.

“Wait I’ll go with Feng” Aiden shouted but the guard did not care about his opinions. they all ran in different ways.

The shadowy figure chasing after the split as well.

Feng looked back. The man in that black mask laughed jovially.

‘he finds it fun! Fuck even if I give back that sword he won’t stop now. he had gone into predator mode.’

Haily came to an abrupt stop.

Feng glanced ahead of them. Another one of those copies of him was standing there giggling like a maniac.

Haily lowered them both down. Ethan immediately grabbed Feng’s hand and made sure to keep her close.

“Both of you run when I tell you to.” Haily softly whispered.

Feng looked at her worriedly. “no... I won’t run.”

“Miss! You must!” Haily unsheathed her sword and started to attack the black-cloaked guy. Sparks flew around as their swords clashed. The sword that the man was using had a dark miasma around it making it seem even eerier.

“lets go!” Ethan grabbed her and dared her into another one of those alleyways.

The masked man appeared right in front of them blocking their way. “How does it feel like to be the last two alive? hehe....”

Feng froze. “w-what?”

Ethan backed away pulling Feng alongside.

The masked man did not give them a chance to escape. He grabbed a hold of Feng’s hair and dragged her back.

“Let go of her!” a huge thunder bolt fell down on him.

The man easily just stood there letting the electric energy invade his body. He was completely unharmed. “this is all you got? Tsk so easy to kill children’

With a dagger, he easily sliced off Feng’s neck.

She did not expect this at all!. Warm blood flowed down her neck drenching her clothes in red.

“Feng!!!!” Ethan’s scream was still fresh in her ears as she closed her eyes tiredly.

‘Fucking hell! I died! He killed me!’

She felt someone hug her and then a small grunt was heard. Another warm body fell on top of her. She blindly tried to grab a hold of Ethan’s hand. It was getting colder. ‘no... no.... he can’t die.... He can’t have died...’

Feng struggled to open her eyes. she hurriedly slapped her face and got up.

This time the scene had changed. She was still in Haily’s arms; Ethan was deep asleep as well.

‘I came back... oh fucking shit...’

trembling She looked around. they were still walking around those moderately crowded streets. “Uncle!”

“NO!”

Feng and Elle shouted at the same time.

“Uncle you must run! You must run! That guy will kill you!” Elle screamed.

“Yes! We must leave right away!” Feng shouted as well.

Duke glared into the dark alleyways around them. “it’s too late for that,. we are already surrounded.”
