I closed my mother door behind me after me and her walked in, we had just came back from church I wouldn't really go when I lived here but she asked me to come with her this time.

"What's that smell" I asked putting my bag down on the chair.

"Mi did cook earlier this morning cause i knew I would be tired when I came back from church." She said walking to the kitchen sink washing her hands.

"Dutty foot Jalen deh yah" I asked walking in the kitchen.

"no him gone bout him business before mi even did a leave out."she answered.

"Come get the table ready" she then said

"People ah come ?"  I asked.

"You too nuff" she told me walking off.

"Mi really did want go home" I said trailing behind her.

"Yuh get new house and can't leave it fi a few hours" she said rhetorically stopping and looking at me.

I didn't bother arguing with her and just did as she said.

"Mummy how much plates" I shouted from the dining room.

"Bout 7 ah dem" she said coming from her room in a new outfit.

"SEVEN ?" I shouted questioning her.

"Yuh deff" she said walking past the dining room door straight to the kitchen.

I placed the seven plates that almost filled the table but left one place empty because the table held 8 seats.

Once I did that I went to my old room changing  into something comfortable than the white dress I had on, I found a tracksuit I had left here and put it on.

Couple minutes later I went out my room walking down the stair hear conversation being held in the living room.

Walking in I saw my mother, uncle and two church brothers from earlier.

I greeted them but soon after my uncle greeted me with a warm hug, they did the usual asking me my life plans, I just told them good things they wanted to hear but once I had the chance I sneaked off to the dining room.

I sat in my picked chair on my own waiting for the rest of the company to arrive so we could eat.

I opened my instagram watching multiple story's it took a while but after I messaged back some unread messages then soon went to look at my feed.

I suddenly felt a presence behind me, arms then wrapped around my shoulder from behind at the dinning chair I was sitting.

I already knew who it was by the cologne but me looking down at their arm tattoo gave me even more confirmation.

"What are you doing here ??" I said eyes still focused forward.

"Weh you mean, mi can't come see mi woman" he spoke above me bending lower kissing my cheek.

"Watch yah, try nuh mek Mrs Wallace hear yuh" i said to him bringing my attention down back at my phone on my lap.

He leaned closer to me I could tell because I could feel him breathing on my neck.

"Suh...why you deh pon dis" he said grabbing my phone from my hold.

"instagram ?" I said turning in my chair looking up at him standing behind it looking deep in my phone

He turned around my phone showing the last post on my feed I was looking at

"Ohh, nuh see ah mi good friend dat" I said sarcastically.

" Love run joke, yuh smell good doh" he said reaching for my neck as I looked up at him as he looked down at me with his hat just above his eyes.

"Okay...come Mek we go round the front room cause me can't trust you when your excitement start" i said removing his hand standing up.

"Batty just fat up, weh di dress you wear gah church" he said following behind me out the room.

"Mi just change cause feel it did ah suck me in plus mommy said company did ah come" I said as he caught up to me and handed back my phone.

"Oh, so basically yuh neva want show off my goods" he said.

"Hear yah" Jalen said coming around the corner looking between the both of us.

I used this opportunity to walk off to the kitchen.

"Weh you did deh suh long, everyone reach so help mi bring these pon the dining table" my mother said and hurried.

She held a bowl of coleslaw, I took the silver pan of fried chicken following off behind her as she led the way.

We was all seated me in between Jalen and Naldo with my mom at the end of the table and Kieron the young church brother, my Uncle and Brother Luke across from us.

"you know Kieron nuh far from your age" my Mother randomly spoke smirking at me.

"Oh for real that's nice" I said back to her keeping the same energy.

Also avoiding Kieron's eye contact meanwhile I felt Naldos eyes pierce in my skull.

"Wheh yuh study again ?" Brother Luke said breaking the awkwardness.

"I'm studying hair and beauty but I also work part time in a hair salon over downtown Kingston." I spoke trying to mute my Uncles plate scraping as he watched a football match on his phone in one hand and other a spoon.

"that's a good path to start on with in that type of business industry" he said praising me.

"I like a girl that know what she wants with her head on her shoulders" Kieron butted in.

"yuh like God and dem ting deh as well,doh ?" Naldo questioned calmly putting his spoon down.

"Yes of course" Kieron answered eating as I shoved a mouth full of rice and peas in my mouth.

"want meet him ?" Naldo said glaring straight at keiron across the table.

My eyes went to my mother showing a smile creep up on her face but then forcing it to disappear once remembering the people she had for company.

"*Cough* Murda, auntie pass mi the jug of juice please n thanks" Jalen said longing out his hand over my food as I shoved him.

"Let's finish this nice evening with a drink" Brother Luke said pulling red wine from under the table.

"Weh mi do now" he said to her.

She didn't even reply to him just kissed her teeth.

"Nuh Man U and Argentina" Naldo asked Uncle Johnny.

"Yeah mon" Uncle answered.

"Haffi guh watch dat when mi reach in" Naldo said bringing his attention to me winking.

"No thanks...I'm good" I said trying to be stubble once brother Luke approached me with the wine bottle.

"Wonder who ago drop dung dead" Jalen spoke.

"Shut up" I turned and whispered to him as Luke took his seat now filling his glass.

"Never know one time you tuen down a drink"Jalen said hinting something then finishing his glass already.

"WAH?" My Uncle spoke loud next to Kieron making him choke on his wine.

"Erm...me and Kieron will bring these to the kitchen" Luke said gathering the plates as Keiron did the glass cups and in the blink of an eye they was gone.

My mother didn't say anything she was silent.

🧠: Wait till ah we alone and she wull mi.

🧠: Cussing nah guh done till next Christmas.

"yuh turn big woman" my uncle said with his phone now down.

"Mi did tell yuh enuh Autie, Mi did tell bout yuh one gyal pickney" Jalen spoke pointing at me talking across the table to my mother who just sipped her drink.

"Gwarn till mi tump yuh inna yuh gravel head" i said to Jalen now bringing my focus back to Naldo.

"Wah ? mi never shoulda talk" he said as everyone eyes were on me and mine were on him.
