"Binx, stop it! We do not hiss at mommy." I scolded.

Did the feline listen to me? No. The feline continued to hiss at me.

"I'm gonna tell grandma if you don't stop." I warned.

She cut her hissing short and went back to eating her food. My mom is a scary person so I understand. Janine isn't the nicest but she's still my mom so that trumps everything else.

She isn't mean to me though so I win.

I went back upstairs to make sure I had everything I needed and everything the pets needed. Once I was confident that I had everything I put Binx and Beast into the car (which was struggle) and drove to the daycare.

"Good Morning, Salem!" Penelope smiled brightly.

"Good morning to you, Nellie," I smiled back, "Binx is a little grumpy this morning so ignore her. Beast is...well he's Beast so he's chillin'. You have a good day, Nel."

"See you later! Alright guys let's go."

Penelope was my absolute favorite worker at the daycare. The others are great but they aren't Penelope. She's the sweetest teenager I've ever met, and I hate teenagers!

I made a mental note to buy her something nice. She definitely deserves it.

Thankfully I was able to grab breakfast so I stopped at McDonald's and got a large hot mocha and a sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffin. I decided to be a good friend and got Raven and Rylee something too.

Raven got the same thing as me but Rylee got a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit with extra grape jelly. And an orange juice. I cannot forget that little boy's orange juice.

The best breakfast ever!

When I got to work I went directly to Raven's class to give her and Rylee their food.

"Thank you Salem!" Rylee said, taking his food from my hands.

"Of course! I'll see you in a little bit."

Raven just stared at me wearing a smirk. I don't know what's going on with her but it's kinda odd.

Once I was settled in my own classroom I pulled out my phone so I could watch something whilst I ate. I'm an iPad kid at heart.

Raven sent me a text of a smirking emoji and at this point I'm beyond confused. So I texted her wife to see what's up.

What kind of drugs

did Ray take this

morning?

If we're not

including the

ones her

doctor prescribed

her there are

none that I'm

aware of

I find that hard to

believe. She's been

winking at me since

I got here. Something

is wrong with her

You're just now

figuring that out?

Ash, this is serious!

I don't know, Say.

Ask her yourself

She's scaring me

I have a patient to

attend to so I'll

talk to you later

You're literally

no help 🙄

Ashley's lying to me. She knows what's going on and I'm going to find out! ...As soon as the kids leave.

The first students to arrive were Valentine and Rhodes, however, this was no surprise to me. Ever since the first day they've been the first to get here. Their parents must really want them out the house.

"Good morning you two."

"Good morning!" Rhodes grinned.

"Hi." Valentine said, though her "hi" was laced with some attitude.

"What's going on this morning, Val?" I asked the seven year old.

"She's mad her mom didn't pack her a lunchable for lunch." Rhodes answered, laughing at his best friend.

"Shut up, Driveway!" Valentine yelled.

"Hey! No thank you. We said "be quiet" or "hush" remember? Now, what did she pack you that made you so upset?"

"Birria tacos! I don't want that!" The girl whined, "Ella no escucha." (She doesn't listen)

"Girl are you kidding me? Birria tacos are the best! I love them so much."

"You can have them," she offered, "I don't want 'em."

"But then you wouldn't have anything to eat."

"I'd be okay with that." She shrugged going over to sit in her seat.

A few minutes later December, Logan, and Cassidy walked in. I greeted the three of them and pulled up my PowerPoint on the smart board.

By seven-thirteen I had all twenty two of my students. Once they finished doing their warm up they were instructed to go to the carpet so we could have our morning meeting.

I enjoyed doing morning meetings because it gave me a chance so see what the vibes were going to be like, how the kids were doing, and what they did over the weekend. I know if something good happened they'll want to share it. I also like to use it to give out any important information for the week.

"Alright who wants to share what they did this weekend?"

A number hands went up so I just called on who's hand I saw go up first. That person being Rowan.

"My mom and dad took me to see my nana! And then we went to the doctors because my mom is pregnant."

"You're gonna be a big sister! That's so cool."

"I know!" She grinned.

I had to go on google to use my wheel of names because a lot of them wanted to share. Wheel of names makes my job like five times easier.

The wheel landed on Xavier who was a perfect mix of introvert and extrovert. He's talkative when he wants to be or when he feels as though he needs to be.

"Alright...Xavier?"

"I went to my brother's soccer game. He isn't very good at it but his team still won."

"Well then I hope they win their next game." I nodded.

"December?"

"I went roller skating! It was fun until I fell. Then I got sad and wanted to go home."

"I'm sorry," I frowned.

Next was Valentine but I knew there was a possibility that she was still in a bad mood because of her taco fiasco so I made sure to ask first.

"Valentine? Are you still upset or do you want to share?"

"I'm still upset. I don't want to share."

"That's okay. So the next person is... Halo. Halo care to share?"

"Yes! My daddy came home on Friday so me and Atticus went to a restaurant to celebrate. It was really fun."

"Where was your dad?"

"He was coaching a basketball game. His team won."

"That's awesome! Tell him I said congratulations."

I needed to get a move on so I went ahead and went through my PowerPoint and then sent the kids back to their tables.

I hope today is a good one.

"Nobody's leaving until Esmeralda answers the question, and Isla and Valentine stops talking."

When Isla and Valentine finally stopped their side bar conversation I returned my attention back to Esme. As a second grade teacher I don't expect them to know everything but this is basic math they've been learning since preschool.

"Miss Black, I don't know." The little girl frowned.

"The answers sixteen, idiot." Rhodes mumbled.

"Hey! Rhodes. Outside please and thank you- but before you go tell Esmeralda you're sorry."

"Why would I apologize? I'm not sorry, Miss Black. She was cutting into my precious recess time!" He sighed.

"Well now you have no recess," I pointed, "Out. Now."

After I got the boy out of my room I noticed Esmeralda with tears in her eyes. She was looking down at the desk like it was the most interesting thing in the world.

"Everyone line up." I said, wanting this day to be over.

"Esme's crying."

"I can see that. Thank you, Isla."

Today was not a good one. I was severely stressed out. I had to call Rhodes' mom, call Esmeralda's mom, and file a report.

My school takes bullying very seriously and even though I'm sure this was a one time thing, I still had to make the report.

Plus next week is family night so now I have to meet all twenty-two of my student's families.

I'm calling on God himself to help me.
