Lanecourt High was not just the most prestigious school in B City, it was the top school in the whole nation known for its high-status students.
The students in this school either came from wealth or were top students with excellent grades.
On the first day of school, the campus was filled with parents sending their children off. The school gate was bustling, crowded with parents and their luxury cars while students decked out in head-to-toe luxury brands skipped into the school grounds excitedly.
Right then, a black Maybach stopped by the gate and a beautiful girl dressed in a white dress opened the car door and got out of the car.
She had beautiful features, but most importantly, the grace she adorned made her stand out from the crowd as if she had a spotlight shining on her wherever she went. At the same time as she got off, the people around her looked over, and some even gasped out loud in shock. "Oh my goodness, isn't that Leah Jones? She's so pretty!"
Leah was already used to situations like this, and she merely flashed them a brief smile as she took her backpack from her driver before she walked into the school. After taking just a few steps, someone shouted behind her, "Leah, wait for me!" The girl's voice was sweet and crisp, filled with energy and enthusiasm.
Leah stopped in her tracks immediately. There was a glint in her eye as she turned around.
The girl was wearing a crop top and a pair of light blue jeans, and there was a set of pink headphones that casually hung around her neck. Although she looked slightly rakish and carefree, her plain beauty still shone through.
The energy she radiated, the extroversion that she portrayed, were a bleak contrast to Leah's introverted cautiousness.
A look of envy flashed across Leah's eyes. This outfit was not the standard "appropriate" dress expected of a proper lady, and she knew well that her
grandfather would never allow her to dress this way.
"Good morning, Sophia." She flashed the girl a smile as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"It's still so early!" Sophia had her arms folded behind her head as she looked around. "I'm going to look for Charles now, Aunt Harris told me that he just went... Eh, how strange, he should be somewhere here..."
Leah's eyes darkened as she lowered her eyes and said, "You... Do you like Charles that much?"
"I do! When I was eight years old, I swore that I would become his bride one day!" Sophia giggled. "He's handsome, I'm pretty, and if we do have kids someday, I'm sure they would be extremely good-looking!"
Leah twisted the corner of her sleeves tightly. She kept her head low and her tone light as she replied, "He hasn't said anything even after you have been pursuing him for so long though, have you ever considered giving up?"
"Well, he never said yes or anything, but at least he's not saying no! Anyway, our families are such close friends and Aunt Harris already likes me so much. Whether it's true love or a marriage of convenience, I'm the best choice!"
Sophia could barely stay still anymore and she pulled Leah forward. "Hurry up, let's go put our bags away so we can go find Ryleigh and Elaine! By the way, there's a new nail salon that opened up nearby and I saw reviews of how pretty their nail art is!"
Leah followed beside Sophia as Sophia pulled her along, and she instinctively furrowed her delicate brows.
She felt jealous of Sophia that she was able to proclaim out loud how much she liked Charles, but at the same time, she could not help but feel that this was... something so embarrassing for a girl and she just could not do so herself!
The two of them went to their lockers to put their bags before Sophia called Ryleigh and Elaine to ask where they were.
The two girls were together right then but they needed another two or three hours to reach, and since Sophia did not want to wait, she hung up and dragged Leah to the new nail salon she was talking about earlier.
"If two friends like the same person, do you think they're still able to stay as best friends?" Leah casually asked as they were getting their nails done.
"I don't like this color, change this to another shade!" Sophia frowned and said to the nail technician before she turned to Leah, "It depends on the situation, is one of
them already together with the guy or girl?"
Were Sophia and Charles a pair?
All their schoolmates and everyone they knew seemed to think so, but they were not even officially together. Sophia was the one pursuing Charles, that was all.
Leah paused for a moment before replying, "No."
"They could still stay friends then! If anything, it's just a fair competition!" Sophia flashed her eyes at Leah and continued, "Why are you asking me so seriously? You're not talking about yourself, are you? Have you fallen for Charles as well?"
Leah's heart immediately jumped as she quickly answered, "No, of course not." "Alright." Sophia did not take her question to heart. "Just tell if you do, we can fight for him fair and square!"
She glanced at her nails again and decided that she still did not like them, and so she requested the nail technician to try something else once more.
"I just... I just admire Charles, he's such a great guy." Leah did not understand why she said this, but all she knew was that she did not want Sophia to find out that she liked Charles as well.
Sophia nodded in agreement. "He really is wonderful! He gets good grades, he's cute, he's skilled in
combat fighting, and he recentht
started going to the company too to learn the ropes! I'm sure our children would be as smart as him in the future! Eh, Leah, you can be our
children's godmother then!" Content
Leah's heart sank to the bottom of her chest, feeling incredibly uncomfortable
listening to this.
"Oh yeah!" Sophia's head jerked up all of a sudden. "Remember, just tell me straight if you like Charles. If you wait until he's already mine, then..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Leah gently interrupted her. "No, that won't happen. You're my best friend, how could I fall for the same guy as you?"
She was on edge right now, but Sophia was still unbothered and aloof. "Hehe... Don't get so nervous, I'm just saying."
By the time their nails were almost done, Sophia received a call. As soon as she answered the phone, her expression changed and she quickly grabbed her purse and ran out the door.
"Charles got into a fight with someone and there isn't a lot of people, I need to go
and help-
With that, she was gone.
'I'll go with you.' The simple words got stuck in Leah's throat as she stood up as well.
She wanted to go help Charles just like Sophia, but the last time she defended Sophia, her father and grandfather lectured her and reminded her to be mindful of
her reputation and actions because her behavior outside represented the image of
the Jones family...
"Miss, are you leaving too?" the nail technician asked.
Leah shook her head and sat down again.
She was taught to never join in a fight since she was young, and she knew that her
family would never condone this sort of behavior.
After she got her nails done, Leah went to the counter to pay before she headed
back to school.
By the time she got back, Ryleigh
and Elaine were already in the classroom. They were in the middle of a conversation when they saw
Leah and walked over to her. "Leah, Sophia got herself admitted to the hospital after trying to help Charles
in a fight. Do you want to skip study period tonight to visit her at the hospital?"
"She got admitted to the hospital?" Leah exclaimed in shock.
How did Sophia get herself injured so badly in such a short span of time that she had to be hospitalized?
"Yeah, Charles ran into a bunch of guys who were trying to cause trouble and one of
them hit Sophia the moment she got there, so Charles stole a motorcycle and took
her to the hospital."
In the end, Leah did not tag along to the hospital. It was not just her family, she had extremely high demands on herself as well.
Once study period was over, Leah bought a fruit basket and had her driver send her
to the hospital.

As she knocked on the door and stepped into the room, she was greeted with the sight of Charles sitting by the edge of her bed feeding her warm soup. He looked the same as usual, with an O indifferent look plastered on face, but she noticed the slight hint
of gentleness in his eyes.
