"The doctors are probably just worried because you have been running around lately, that's why... Oh my goodness, wow! Sophia, look! Over there!"
Clara stopped mid-sentence and pointed out the window as she screamed out to Sophia.
Confused as to why Clara was suddenly so excited, Sophia turned to look in the direction where she was pointing and was immediately stunned.
There was a hot-air balloon floating in the sky not far away, with a huge blown-up photo of Charles and Sophia that they took in the past, and floating alongside the hot air balloon was countless colorful balloons.
The hot air balloon continued rising until a huge banner rolled down-
[Sophia White, will you marry me?]
[You can't say no.]
The hospital immediately began buzzing. Some ran out the corridor to take pictures while some who were outside the hospital clamored
"Say yes! Say yes!"
"Wait a minute, isn't Sophia already dead?"
"Do you not watch the news? They already clarified that she's still alive! She only faked her death back then to avoid being killed!"
"How romantic! Mr. Harris really is the perfect man!"
"D*mn it, I'm suddenly regretting getting married so young..."
"Come on Sophia, say yes!"
The hospital that was usually peaceful and quiet was instantly filled with joyful shouts.
The commotion was so loud that some of the hospital staff rushed out to try to maintain some sort of order amongst the crowd, and even security had to come over with a loudspeaker. "This is a hospital and we have patients trying to rest, please be quiet! Please cut down the noise!!!"
Since the crowd that had gathered outside were either patients or family members of patients, they immediately left after hearing this.
Sophia could not help but furrow her brows. This was a hospital, and the last thing she wanted was to disturb the other patients.
Then, Clara pointed to the front again and covered her mouth as she gasped, "Sophia, look!"
Flowers decorated both sides of the corridor, and there was a sign stuck in the middle of the road that wrote 'walk down this path that leads to my heart'.
"How did he get everything ready in half a day?!" Clara exclaimed in shock, "He must have been very persistent..."
However, Sophia did not even look at the flowers. Instead, she bit her lip as she slowly walked into the hospital room.
The curtains in the room were drawn and there were flowers and candles all set up on the floor. It was beautiful.
When she stepped into the room, Sterling had his back against her and was in the middle of a phone call. "Didn't I specifically ask you to keep it low-key? Why did you have to make such a grand gesture? We're in a hospital, for goodness sake!"
Charles was in the room as well. Dressed in an impeccably crisp suit, he was incredibly dashing. With a bouquet of flowers in hand, like Sophia, he did not look happy.
When Sterling heard the door opening behind him, he immediately knew that it was over. He turned around and quickly ended the call when he saw Sophia and gave her an awkward laugh.
"Ster," Sophia called out.
Sterling straightened up and instantly gave in. "Charles wanted to propose to you as soon as possible and we weren't able to come up with any romantic ideas in such a short span of time so I contacted one of my friends and hired a creative agency."
His voice gradually became softer as he continued, "It's my fault, it's all my fault. I know we're at a hospital now and we shouldn't fool around like this but the company messed it all up! Don't worry though, I'll contact them and complain..."
In the end, he turned to Sophia and mustered the best puppy eyes he could. "Soph, I'm sorry, please don't be angry."
If he had known the company would do things this way, he would not have contacted them in the first place!
Charles stuffed the bouquet of flowers into Sophia's arms and knelt on one knee. Then, he opened the ring box, and without even asking her, he grabbed her hand and slid the ring on her finger.
The ring had been ready for a long time so there should not be a sizing issue, but because of how much weight Sophia had lost recently, it was slightly loose on her
finger.
"Let's get married in three months." Charles stood up and kissed her on the forehead. "Brother and I will arrange for someone to apologize to all the patients and their family members in this building too, don't worry."
Sophia looked at the ring on her finger. "But I..." I did not say yes...
"You had a lot of check-ups this morning, you must be all worn out. Alright, take a
good rest now, Ster and I will leave now." Charles avoided her grim gaze and quickly called Sterling together to leave the room.
Sophia, "..."
She looked down at the ring on her finger again. She wanted to call out to Charles but before she could even say anything, he quickened his steps and left the room, closing the door right behind him.
"This... How is this a proposal?" Clara was almost speechless. "He didn't even ask you properly!"
Sophia pursed her lips and twisted the ring on her finger. She looked around the room at the fresh flower bouquets, the candles, the balloons, and she let out a
gentle sigh.
A marriage proposal like this might be just as good as not proposing at all.
By the time Charles and Sterling came back, it was almost seven in the evening. Fortunately for them, their huge act earlier did not bother the patients too much. "Where's the ring?" Charles frowned when he saw Sophia's naked hand.
Was she regretting because she was unsatisfied with the proposal?
"I'm scared it'll fall off." She would be sad if the engagement ring slipped off her ring.
The frown subsided from Charles's face. He asked her to take the ring out again and helped her put it back on. "I'll buy another one for you if you drop this, don't you
remove it again."
He did not want any other men eyeing his woman.
"Okay." Seeing that he was so concerned about her wearing the ring, she did not
refuse.
Right then, someone knocked on the floor.
Sterling raised his brow and went to open the door. "Dr. Hemingway, what a
surprise!"
"Hello." Victor walked into the room.
Instead of his usual white coat, he was wearing a grey suit which made him look
much gentler and more elegant.
"You're all here?" Victor looked
around the room and his gaze eventually stopped at the ring on Sophia's finger. He was stunned for a moment before he gave a small smite. "I believe congratulations are in order for the both of you, Mr. Harris, Ms. White." Content belongs
Sophia replied in an apologetic tone, "Thank you. I'm sorry for what happened
earlier today, it must have brought some complaints on the hospital."
"Mr. Harris and Mr. White dropped by to apologize to the patients and
their families earlier and they have already forgiven them seeing how sincere they are so you don't have to worry about this anymore, Ms. White." Victor lowered his gaze at
Sophia, the gentleness, and softness
in his eyes was evident. Content
Charles frowned slightly, but he merely averted his gaze and said nothing.
Victor had taken care of Sophia during the worst time of her life.
Victor casually chatted with Sophia for a while and asked about her recovery state
before he finally said, "Actually, since your leg has almost fully recovered, I can recommend you to another doctor now."
He gave a bitter smile as he continued, "I wanted to wait until you were in a healthier
state before flying off to the States but something urgent came up so I was asked to leave in the next two days."
After hearing about Mr. Harris' marriage proposal, he had completely lost focus. He decided that it was best if he left as quickly as possible to avoid him falling deeper.
"Is it really that rushed?" Sophia frowned. "When is your flight? I want to go see you
off."
Charles looked up when he heard this and his lips were pursed into a thin line, neither did he bother concealing the displeasure in his eyes,
Victor quickly glanced at Charles before turning back to Sophia. "There's no need to trouble yourself
Besides, you're not exactly suited to go out too in your current state Don't worry, my parents and my Aunt Lucy will be there to see me off
so I'll be just fine."
Sophia bit her lip. "My wedding is in three months, Dr. Hemingway, will you..."
"I'll be there," Victor said softly, "Ms. White, you're one of the few best friends that I
have, so don't worry about it, I'll definitely be there.â
Three months were more than enough for him to nip all his feelings in the bud.
He raised his wrist and checked his watch. "It's getting late now, I should go back
and start packing. Goodbye now, Ms. White."
No history.
