One was dead now so there were four more to go.
Charles and âSophiaâ did not dare to even move.
If they simply moved now, they might expose themselves easily, and if they were not careful enough, they could be in immediate danger.
Mr. Zellnerâs subordinates were the ones getting nervous. They had to kill Charles and âSophiaâ before the police came. Otherwise, it would be almost impossible for them to do anything once the police arrived!
Amidst the screams and panicking footsteps, there were a few footsteps sounds that were particularly distinct because of how steady and composed they sounded.
âSophiaâ turned around, and just as he was just about to ask Charles to get ready, Charles had already given him a hand signal that was generally used in combat, motioning to him to move now so they could outflank the enemies from both sides.
He was surprised that a businessman like Charles would know this!
âSophiaâ suppressed the shock that rose in his chest and nodded. With that, the two of them darted out at the same time, and within seconds, they eliminated three of them with just a few shots. However, those three did not go down easily, and Charles and âSophiaâ suffered a few gunshot wounds.
Not far away, a woman in a bright pink mink coat was standing next to a Porsche, holding her phone recording the entire scene as she shouted at the top of her lungsââ
âSomeoneâs dead! They killed someone!â
âSophiaâ, â...â
He turned to Charles. âHow can someone still be on their phone recording at a time like this? Mr. Harris, do you think sheâs bold or just plain stupid? If Mr. Zellnerâs men werenât dead, she would have been killed because of how shrill her voice is! Donât you agree with me?â
Charles did not respond. Instead, he handed the gun to âSophiaâ as he stared blankly into the distance.
âWhat are you looking at?â âSophiaâ followed his gaze and saw a woman with scars all over her face standing not far away, and she was staring back at them as well.
Under the dim light, he could barely make out her face, aside from the sparkly beads that brimmed the edges of her eyes. They seemed like... tears.

Worried that she would become a burden if she followed her brother to find Charles, Sophia contacted the Cox family instead.
Since Mr. Zellnerâs side had the impression that their people had taken her, it was time to use this knowledge to their advantage, and she got Charlesâ
maternal grandfather and his uncles together on the phone to discuss a plan:
Borrow Meganâs black Volkswagen and get someone to pretend to be Sophia, then have three other military personnel to hurry over to save Charles.
They had plenty of talents in the troop, and coincidentally, one of them was good in voice imitation. It was a plus point that he was almost at Sophiaâs height too, so he was best suited to stand in as Sophia. They elected another three reliable men and then set off to see Mr. Zellner right away.
The three of them did not put on any disguises so there was a high risk of them being exposed, and so Sterling suggested to the uncles that they arrange for a team to stand by outside the building.
As long as they noticed anything happening inside, they would be able to rush inside and do something. Fortunately, luck was on their side. Mr.
Zellner barely noticed the three of them, nor did he realize that âSophiaâ was just a stand-in.
Everything that happened after went smoothly according to plan.
However, Sophia had no clue what was going on over at their side. She was worried that she would become a liability for Charles, but at the same time, she could not just sit around and do nothing.
The instant she had confirmation that things were more settled over on their side, she requested Charlesâs uncle to bring her over to the scene.
When she got out of the car, the first thing she saw was Charles covered in blood, and she was unable to tell where was he shot.
Sophia gaped at him. She wanted to ask him if he was alright, but the words seemed to be stuck in her throat.
She broke free of Sterlingâs grasp and stumbled toward Charles. A thick metallic scent of blood rushed into her nose and tears began flowing down her cheek almost uncontrollably.
âDonât cry, it doesnât hurt.â Charles furrowed his brows when he saw her tears and cautiously reached his hand out to wipe her tears away.
The wounds on her face were not completely healed yet and they would certainly hurt if tears flowed in.
Sophia tried to open her eyes and hold back the tears but she could not.
Charles merely ignored him as he gently pulled Sophia into the car. âItâs too cold outside, your body might not be able to take it.â
âWait a minute.â Sophia pulled away and walked to âSophiaâ where she took the black coat from him and draped it over her shoulders. Then, she turned to Charles and reached for his head. âAlright, letâs head to the hospital.â
The worry interlaced in her tone was unmistakable.
Charles looked down at the black coat she was wearing, and the corners of his lips curled up slightly as he let her lead him back to the car.
âSophiaâ watched as the two of them leave in the car, then looked down at his injuries. He could not help but feel sad for himself.
Suddenly, he had the urge to fall in love...
-
At the hospital.
The bullets missed all the important organs so he was in no danger after they were extracted. However, Charles suffered a mild concussion when his head hit the ground earlier so he needed to be hospitalized for some time.
After this incident, Sterling no longer had anything to say about Charles anymore.
He used to dislike Charles because he was always so cold toward his sister, which he deemed not good at all.
Now, however... He did not even dare to assume that his contributions to his sister were as great as his brother-in-lawâs!
Still, there was one thing he could not figure out himself. âI know how you got the gunshot wounds, but how did you get a mild concussion? Did you fall on your head?â
âI fell down by accident,â Charles explained vaguely.
However, as soon as he answered Sterlingâs question, the man who pretended to be Sophia came into the room together with Charlesâ uncle.
Upon hearing this, Sophia stared at Charles in disbelief as her eyes misted over. âYou... Why are you so stupid?â
He did not want anything to happen to her, but she could not just possibly watch him jump in front of harmâs way too, could she?
Yvette had not known about this and she broke into a cold sweat when she heard this.
Charles frowned and said to Sophia, âI knew something was up from the beginning but we didnât have much time, so I didnât bother looking closer.â
Although his expression was calm and collected, his voice sounded slightly more strained than usual.
âWhy did you take the bullet for him when you werenât even sure it was me?â Luckily, nothing happened to him. She really did not know what would she do if something were to happen to him!
Before Charles could respond, âSophiaâ retorted, âYou never know, he might have fallen in love with me at first sight!â
A talented, intellectual business whiz? He had kicked him during an urgent situation to save him, yet the man kicked him back on purpose, and twice too!
Since they would probably not get the chance to meet again in the future, he had to seize the opportunity and give this child a proper lesson!
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 481 Letâs Talk About It On The Way Charles merely ignored him and he took Sophiaâs hands in his. âEven if thereâs only a one percent chance of it being you, I would still do it anyway.
Sophia, I canât afford to lose you.â
He stared deep into her eyes, and the sincerity in his eyes was undisguised.
Sophiaâs heart leaped to her chest. She was so overwhelmed with her emotions that she did not know what to feel.
