âDr. Hemingway, I understand where youâre coming from and Iâm grateful for your sincere advice, but if the situation was reversed between us, would you sit around and turn a blind eye if the person you love is suffering?â
Victor felt his eyes burned as he watched her.
He averted his gaze abruptly and blinked quickly. âI would... try to come up with something else.â
Sophia gave him a wry smile when she heard this. âIf there were other ways, I wouldnât have chosen this.â
She would not joke around with her life either, but there was truly no other way.
Victor kept quiet for a moment before he stood up and said, âYou can tell me what youâre up to, Iâll do whatever I can to help you.â
He knew what this meant: If he lent a hand to Sophia, he might bring trouble to the Hemingway family, but whether as a doctor or... a friend, he could not simply watch her cast away her life.
Sophia turned his offer down without hesitation. âItâs alright, thank you.â
âWhy?â
âNo reason.â There were too many things at risk and she certainly would not let her friend get dragged into this mess.
Master Harris was still in the washroom listening to their conversation and she did not want him to turn to the Hemingway family for help as well, and so she knew she had to turn him away as quickly as possible now. âCan you please leave the room now? Iâm a bit tired and I would like to rest for a while.â
This was clearly an excuse to kick him out of the room.
Just as his hand reached for the door handle, Sophia called out to him from behind, âDr. Hemingway, thank you.â
âYouâre welcome.â Victor turned around and his Adamâs apple bobbed as he replied, âIâll be leaving for the States in two monthâs time.â
Her condition should stabilize in another two months.
Sophia was taken aback by this sudden news. âIs it a business trip?â
âNo, I will probably stay in the States for the next ten years or so. I just received an offer from a well-known hospital and thereâs potential for me to further hone my skills and develop my career.â
He just realized that had developed feelings for her, feelings he thought he had sworn off from the very beginning. Since she already had a partner, his ego and principles did not allow him to intervene in other peopleâs relationships.
Hence, he had to chuck it away before those feelings grew any more, and this was the best and most effective option that was viable at the moment.
âCongratulations are in order then, Dr. Hemingway.â Sophia looked at him and gave him a genuine smile.
Her face was covered with scars and wounds, and so she looked quite frightening when she smiled, but even so, her bright eyes sparkled as beautifully as stars in the night sky.
âThank you.â Victor flashed her a smile and opened the door to leave the room.
The bodyguards were still standing beside her in the room whereas Master Harris and two other bodyguards were hiding in the bathroom.
However, as Sophia watched as the door closed behind Victor, it was as if the last ray of sunlight was disappearing before her, and she suddenly felt lonely like never before.
Aside from Master Harris who knew that she was still alive, Dr. Hemingway was her only other friend who knew.
If he left two months later, and if the Harris family had yet to resolve their issue, she would still be unable to reveal her real identity. When that happened, Master Harris would be the only person who knew that she was not Scarlett Griffin, but Sophia White.
One of the bodyguards walked to the door and locked it while Master Harris came out of the washroom along with two of the other bodyguards.
âWas that Victor Hemingway? Are you very close to him?â Master Harris asked thoughtfully as he stared at the closed door.
Sophia did not even look at him. âWeâre just doctor and patient, donât think too much.â
âWith the Hemingway familyâs status, Charles would probably believe him if he told Charles about the tip,â Master Harris continued as he ignored her answer, âGo call him back, let me...â
Sophia frowned and interrupted him right away. âDr. Hemingway has helped me in so many ways in the past, I canât drag him into this mess so you can forget about this.â
She would much rather lose her life than drag her friends down.
Master Harris continued ignoring her as he tapped his walking cane on the floor, seemingly in much higher spirits than before.
âI have always been quite close to Dr. Hemingway and Lucy, I think chances of them helping me out is quite high if they know the entire story.â
Sophia immediately knew that he was up to no good. âMadam Davis would not let anyone drag the Hemingway family into this mess. If you donât mind revealing yourself, go ahead and try the Hemingway family then.â
However, he would not take the risk because he was uncertain how Madam Davis would react.
âGood then,â Sophia responded indifferently.
Master Harris was extremely put off by her attitude, but just as he was about to speak, a bodyguard ran up to him and whispered something into his ear. Immediately, his expression changed.
âAre you sure?â Master Harrisâ tone was higher and sharper than usual.
Sophia quietly observed his reaction. Something big must have happened to be able to arouse such a reaction from someone like Master Harris who âdiedâ once.
The bodyguard was just about to add on something when Master Harris said, âJust say it out loud, thereâs nothing she canât know.â
By âsheâ, he meant Sophia.
With that, the bodyguard straightened his back and said, âItâs true. My men told me that D Cityâs council handed over all their projects to Jones Group, and the funds have been paid in advance as well.â
âAside from that, the government projects that they have accepted earlier had been paid upfront too. If there is no mistake, the gap in Jones Groupâs capital chain has been filled up already.â
Earlier on, Jones Group was in a tight spot because their capital chain had been broken and nobody was willing to fund them.
However, since their capital issue had been solved, Jones Group would only improve from here since they already had a solid foundation.
This was certainly bad news to the Harris family.
Once the bigshot turned all attention to Jones Group, it was highly likely that they would leak Harris Corporationâs involvement in human experiments and such other problems just to get rid of their rival, Charles Harris.
For the Harris family, this would be a complete disaster.
Master Harris was as pale as a sheet of white paper as he quickly tried to think of a plan, but he was already forced to fake his death, so what plan could he possibly come up with?

ï¤Chapter 467 I Canât Wait For Him To Die No matter how good they were at covering their tracks, money laundering would certainly leave records in account books. It might also be noticeable from major transactions recorded as well.
As head of Harris Corporation, Charles was best suited to investigate this matter!
