Everyone thought that Charles would at least reconsider his decision, but instead, he merely laughed gently and replied in an indifferent tone, âSo what?â
So what?
Well, that would be the end of all of them, including him!
Did he really not care or was he just pretending not to?
A thousand thoughts went through Oscarâs head, and just as he was still contemplating how to respond, Ted spoke first.
âThat would destroy the Harris family, and that would be all on you, Mr. Chairman cum President!!! Charles, you have always been an intelligent man.
If you know whatâs good for you, just pass on Harris Corporation to my son. Weâll give you your share of what you deserve, and if not, I...â
Bam!
A menacing look flashed in Charlesâ eyes as he kicked Ted in the chest. âIf you donât do as I say, youâll see Harris Corporation being investigated for conducting human experiments on the news headlines tomorrow!â
Oscarâs heart jumped at his words. âCharles, you...â
âStop threatening me with Harris Corporation,â Charles interrupted him coldly, âI told you this before, as long as all of you mind your own business and let me do what I have to do, all my shares will be yours in time. Do you think I still care about any of this?â
If he still cared, he would not have offered to give up his shares in the first place.
Oscar tried to speak a few times but his words got stuck in his throat.
Ever since losing Sophia, Charles no longer had a weakness... They, on the other hand, grew one.
Ted climbed up from the ground abashedly, and with no other ideas, he turned his attention to Yvette. âAunt Harris, are you just going to let Charles do this? If he leaks out the human experiment case to the media, all the shares in our hands will be worthless!â
In fact, worthless was an understatement.
If that happened, they would be lucky if they could still file for bankruptcy. If not, not only would they lose their dividends, they might be in debt as well.
âTed is right. Charles is still young, he might just be blinded by love for now so he doesnât truly understand what it means to lose all of this. As his mother, you canât just watch your son throw his future away just like that, can you?â Oscar was desperate as well, and so he turned his hope to Yvette too.
However, Yvette did not even flinch as she replied calmly, âThe shares are in Charlesâ hands and they belong to him. I respect his decisions.â
She did not even hesitate for a second when she answered and her words were clear-cut. Oscar and the rest of them did not know what else to say.
Charles glanced at his blood relatives with a sneering look on his face. âIâm sure all of you heard what I said. I want to hear an answer from each and every one of you before my parents sign their divorce papers: Are you on the mysterious bigshotâs side or mine? Make your decision and stick to it.â
He was just thinking when to tell them this matter, and since they had served themselves to him on a silver platter, they saved him a trip.
Everyone was at a loss for words.
They had come over with the intention to check up on the second family, and perhaps help Alan put in a few good words if Yvette tried to take away anything of the Harris familyâs.
After all, a Harris familyâs heirloom should not be in the hands of some outsider.
Who would have thought things would turn out this way?
If they had known, they would certainly not have come over!
Not only did Ted fail in taking advantage of the situation, but he also suffered another slight as well, and his face was stone cold as he was just about to leave.
âDid I say you can leave now?â Charlesâ gentle voice sounded from behind, the frost in his tone so cold that it sent shivers down everyoneâs spine.
Tedâs face twisted in anger. âCharles, youâre speaking to an elder now, donât you dare push your luck! If I donât leave now, do you expect me to stay and get beaten up? Come on Justin, letâs go!â
Justin frowned and did not move.
âSit down.â Charlesâ piercing gaze paused on Justin before turning to Ted.
Tedâs heart leaped to his throat as he felt goosebumps all over his body. However, he did not want to admit defeat, and so he replied stubbornly, âIâll stay for Justinâs sake, not because Iâm afraid of you!â
Charles merely ignored him and turned away from him. âYou donât have much time now so you better start thinking now, but let me warn you not to try anything funny. Otherwise, donât blame me for being rude.â
Although his tone was not exactly polite, nobody dared to refute.
Oscar turned to his wife and had a short discussion before he waved his white flag. âCharles, please donât take this the wrong way but this is quite an important matter. Do you mind if I give your aunts a call to discuss?â
The three siblings and their families had always stuck by each otherâs side and confide in each other before making any significant decisions.
Charles nodded and picked up his bottle of whiskey.
With that, Oscar took his phone out and left the room to make the call while the rest of them discussed under their breaths.
âCharles, your dad...â Yvette no longer cared about what happened to the Harris family. The only thing that concerned her was whether Mr. Harris would agree to the divorce.
Charles stared at the strands of white hair tucked behind her ear, wondering when had her hair turned grey. He paused for a moment before he said, âHeâll be here soon.â
âOkay.â Yvette sat back in her seat and glanced at the door from time to time.
Soon after, Mr. Harris arrived.
He had spent the last few days accompanying Madam Jones and had not seen Charles, and so it took him a while before he could recognize which person was his son.
âWho allowed you to freeze my cars?â Mr. Harrisâs expression was dark and stern. He wanted to buy a necklace for his precious, beloved woman, and yet, his card was declined... He had never felt so embarrassed!
Charles looked at him coldly. âDo I need anyoneâs permission to freeze your card?â
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 457 This Idiot With all his brothers watching right beside him, Mr. Harris felt even more flustered and his face flushed red in embarrassment. âYou...â
âShut up. I already asked someone to print out the divorce papers and they should be delivered over soon. Iâll unfreeze all your assets as soon as you sign the papers.â
The whiskey bottle was empty now, and Charles merely threw it on the floor before he rubbed his temples gently. His head was aching from the lack of sleep and excessive alcohol intake.
If this was just another day, everyone would have crowded around to watch this exchange.
However, how could they possibly have the mind to watch the fun when they could barely take care of themselves? Even hearing the words âsign the divorce papersâ made them anxious.
