Chapter 453 of 493

Chapter 456

“Who said it should be split equally between the two of you?” Charles asked coldly.

Yvette was stunned for a moment when he continued, “You should get 70% and he gets 30%.”

“Charles...”

“Just go back now, he’ll agree to it.”

Charles said nothing more as he gulped down another mouthful of whiskey and stumbled into his car.

After Madam Jones had her miscarriage, she had not gone back to the Jones family home. She had thought that her husband would at least come to her, but he resumed his daily life just as before. He still went to the office, slept his usual hours after work, and he looked absolutely fine as if nothing had happened. Most of all, he showed no sign of regret and made no move to apologize to her.

Hence, she went to find Mr. Harris in a fit of anger and had spent the past few days with him.

With so much experience with women, Mr. Harris knew a woman’s thoughts in and out. After Madam Jones’ miscarriage, his plan was to let her rest well and take good care of her. Then, he could seize the opportunity when she was most vulnerable and win over her heart.

However, not only did she refused to stay at home and rest, she kept forging chance encounters with Mr. Jones as if it was her way to prove her feminine charm.

On this day, Mr. Jones was bringing his clients to visit one of the Jones’ family’s shopping complexes, and so Madam Jones had dragged Mr. Harris along for a shopping trip. She even followed Mr. Jones into a luxury jewelry store and chose a diamond necklace that was worth millions of dollars, claiming that she loved it.

“I’ll take this.” Mr. Harris pointed at the diamond necklace without a single hesitation. A million dollars meant nothing to him.

“Alright,” the sales attendant quickly responded and packed up the necklace.

Madam Jones had thought that Mr. Harris buying her the necklace would rouse some sort of reaction from Mr. Jones, but he merely remained on the other side of the shop chatting along with his clients, not even turning to look at her.

She snorted dissatisfiedly and said, “Wait a minute!”

The sales attendant who was carefully wrapping the necklace looked at her in confusion.

“There’s no need to pack it up!” Madam Jones pointed at Mr. Harris and said, “Put it on for me!”

Mr. Harris was already used to doing things like this, and so he gladly responded without thinking too much about it. After removing the price tag, he helped her put it on around her neck.

“Thank you, honey,” Madam Jones said in a coquettish tone in an attempt to aggravate Mr. Jones, and then planted a loud kiss on Mr. Harris’ cheek.

Mr. Jones glanced over when he heard the loud smack, but he quickly looked away right after.

Madam Jones was so furious that she shoved Mr. Harris aside and said huffily, “Hurry up and go pay for it so we can leave! I can’t stand seeing some people around here!”

“Yes yes yes. Be good, dear, I’ll be right back.” Mr. Harris wrapped an arm around Madam Jones’ waist and was just about to give her a kiss when she pushed him away.

However, he was not angry at all. He merely took out his black card and handed it to the sales attendant.

The sales attendant accepted the card cautiously and swiped it. Shock and confusion filled her eyes. Why was the card declined? There must be something wrong, someone from the Harris family should easily have a couple of million dollars on hand.

However, she tried swiping the card a few more times and it was still declined.

She was just about to tell Mr. Harris what was happening when Madam Jones lost her patience. “Hey, what’s wrong with this sales attendant? Can’t you even swipe a credit card? Judging from your working efficiency, did you only get this job because you slept with your manager?”

The sales attendant was an undergraduate student who was working part-time. Naturally, she felt aggravated and wronged but she knew she could not fight back. After all, customers were always right.

She gave Madam Jones a stiff smile and said in an indirect manner, “Mr. Harris, would you like to try another card?”

She had only said this because she knew how wealthy people valued their reputation and dignity, and so she was worried that Mr. Harris would be unhappy if she told him that his card had been declined.

Mr. Harris had not encountered such a situation, and so he did not know what the sales attendant was trying to hint to him. “Why should I? Just use this card.”

“... Mr. Harris, your card won’t go through.” Since he was still confused, the sales attendant had no choice but to be honest.

Mr. Harris was completely stunned.

His card was declined?

How was that possible?

Madam Jones was even more upset than him. “Do you know who is he? How can his card be declined? Are you just a mistress who got this role for sleeping with the boss? Is that why you don’t know how to work the cash register and think that his card got declined!”

She did not mind losing this job. Why should she endure such humiliation just to keep a part-time job?

Another sales attendant was standing beside the girl and she knew that they would not be able to resolve this themselves, and so she quickly pulled her colleague aside, who was now silently wiping away her tears, and set off in search of their store manager.

The store manager quickly hurried over and mumbled words of apology as he tried to fawn on the two customers. “Madam Jones, please allow me to apologize on my staff’s behalf, it’s truly her fault. Here, let me give you a 5% discount.”

Just like the previous sales attendant, he assumed that someone from the Harris family could easily afford this necklace so he assumed that there must be something wrong.

Although 5% did not sound much, it was still worth quite a lot when you were buying a necklace that cost a million dollars. The store manager was truly guilty and was trying to make it up to them.

Mainly, Mr. Jones and his clients seemed to be leaving the store soon.

“Alright... let me swipe the card first.” The store manager thought that asking his staff to kneel and apologize was too much but he could not think of an excuse to turn her down, and so he tried to delay as much as he could by processing the payment first.

He took the black card, swiped it, and his eyes went wide in disbelief as he swiped for a few more times——

“Madam Jones, Mr. Harris, I’m very sorry but your card has been declined. Would you please like to try another card?”

Madam Jones was still unconvinced. “How can it be possible? Why would his card be declined? Is there something wrong with your machine?”

“You can have a look for yourself if you don’t believe me. A lady just came by to buy a necklace just now and our machine was working just fine.” Her attitude was getting on the store manager’s nerves now.

Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!

Chapter 455 I Suggest You Think Carefully Madam Jones was about to say something else when Mr. Harris stopped her with a troubled look on his face. He quickly reached for his wallet and took out several other cards. “Here, try these.”

He suddenly remembered the time when Charles told him that he would freeze all his accounts. He had thought that Charles was just trying to scare him.

The store manager tried every single one of the cards and said, “... All these cards were declined.”

As soon as the words came out of the store manager’s mouth, Mr. Harris’s phone buzzed.

It was a text from Charles.

[All your assets have been frozen.]

[Sign the divorce papers and accept all of Mom’s terms or don’t even think about getting a single cent from the Harris family.]

Although Mr. Harris was looking down at the text on his phone, he could feel the store manager’s gaze on him. He had never been in such a situation, and his face heated up in embarrassment. He desperately wanted to crawl into a hole and just hide.
