Sylvia was in the same hospital ward as Jax. Aside from the bruises on her neck, she was fine otherwise. Jaxâs condition, on the other hand, was much worse. Bandages covered his entire body as his neck, arms and legs were wrapped in casts.
âDidnât you say that you would wait until Sophia and Charles to turn against each other before withdrawing her bodyguards and leaving her to fend for herself? Why did you change your mind all of a sudden?â Jaxâs throat hurt when he spoke.
Sylvia gave her a look. âUndue delay might bring trouble. Besides, my instincts were right. Sophia told Charles everything so even if we had gone according to our plan, it wouldnât have worked.â
She did not regret giving Leah the window of opportunity to kill Sophia, the only unfortunate thing was that Leah had been so sloppy with cleaning up her trails so she was outed so quickly.
âThough...â Jax continued in a troubled tone, âYou were specifically told not to lay a finger on Sophia to avoid provoking Charles. Now that you have done this, he and Charles wonât be happy with you.â
Sylvia was unbothered. âItâs just a woman, Charles will forget her after some time.â
Back in the days, Charlesâ father himself had refused to marry anyone except the b*tch from the Lewis family. He even went on a hunger strike and attempted suicide in the process, but in the end, he still married Yvette obediently and ended up with mistresses all over the place.
Love would never be reliable.
Charles had been head over heels for Sophia for this period of time and was willing to even give up his shares of Harris Corporation. When he thinks back about this in the future, he would surely call himself an idiot.
She had lived for several decades now and had seen more of the world. Charles would surely thank her in due time and stop hating her instead.
âBut...â Jax was about to say something when the phone rang. When he glanced at the caller ID, his eyes lit up in fear. âHeâs calling, I think he wants to ask what happened.â
Sylvia frowned and took the phone from him. When she placed the phone by her ear, the frown was instantly replaced with a bright smile. âWhy did you call me in person? I have to say, Iâm quite flattered.â
âIf I donât call you myself, Iâm afraid you might forget who I am!â An angry manâs voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
âYou canât possibly be joking! Even if I, Sylvia Yates, lose my memory and forget what my name is, I would never forget you,â Sylvia replied.
âDonât bother trying to suck up! Why didnât you act according to plan?! Sylvia Yates, I just warned you in the afternoon to not lay a finger on Sophia White, yet you had someone kill her that very night. Do you even take me seriously?â The man continued yelling.
Although there was a troubled look on Sylviaâs face, the flattery in her tone was undisguised. âYou have misunderstood me. I only did it because I had no other choice, not that I donât listen to you.â
The man merely snorted.
âSophia revealed everything I asked her to do to Charles and I was worried that he might follow the clues and track us down, thatâs why I decided to get rid of Sophia at the very last minute,â Sylvia explained.
Charles had a long way to go but he was losing his sense of right and wrong because of Sophia, she could not possibly allow a liability like Sophia to stay by his side.
The man froze for a moment, and there was a subtle hint of fear when he asked, âSophia told Charles everything? When did that happen?â
âDonât panic, Sophia just thought I wanted to break her and Charles up and nothing more. Besides, Leah was the one who did it so she will be taking full responsibility for her actions, we will not be involved in this in any way,â Sylvia said.
However, the man was aggravated upon hearing this. âEven if I wonât get involved in this, Charles blames you for everything now so how are you going to intervene in the company now?â
âDonât worry, just leave it all to me. During this time, at least until Sophiaâs funeral, Charles will not be dealing with the companyâs affairs. These few days are enough for me to proceed with my plan,â Sylvia answered.
Then only did the man felt slightly relieved. However, he warned her several times before hanging up to act according to plan and not mess around.
Which Sylvia agreed to eagerly.
When the call ended, Jax hesitated and asked, âAre you sure you want to do this?â
âDo we have a choice?â They were running on a stone bridge that was collapsing behind them, they could only move forward from this point and not back down.
Jax was about to speak but said nothing.
âIf you have anything to say, just say it. We have been together so many years now, thereâs nothing to hide between the two of us anymore.â Sylvia pulled his hand and gently rubbed the back of his palm.
After hesitating for a slight moment, Jax said, âYou said that youâre doing this for Charlesâ good, but if you do this and news breaks out, youâll be pushing Charles into the fire pit.â
Sylvia immediately let go of his hands. Clearly, his words had upset her. âWith him around, the news wonât break out. Besides, if I donât do this, who else would help Harris Corporation take care of their involvement in those human experiments?â
â... Alright, itâs up to you.â Jax wanted to point out that they were the ones who uncovered the case of the human experiments, but seeing that she was already upset, he said nothing more.
âThatâs right.â Sylvia smiled and reached out for his hand again.
âBesides, our original targets were Jones Group and White Industries. Since they have already played with Jones Group, White Industries is now on the Russell familyâs side, we canât touch either one anymore. I guess itâs all part of Godâs plan.â

At Bamboo Virtues Village.
Although the two of them had not resided here for a very long time, Sophiaâs coats were at the coat rack, the hand warmer on the coffee table next to the sofa, the womenâs skincare products in the bathroom...
Sophia was everywhere, and the signs of her living here made it seem as if her death was just a nightmare.
Charles tried to ignore her belongings so he could try to avoid thinking that her absence was real.
However, when he walked into the walk-in closet and saw the array of womenâs clothing, as well as the baby clothing pieces, an overwhelming pain surged through his chest.
She was dead...
She and their baby had died...
Charlesâs face paled as his hand reached for the wall to support himself. Suddenly, he did not feel like going to the hospital anymore.
At least he could still deceive himself if he did not see Sophiaâs body, at least he could still convince himself that she was not gone.
However, if he did not see her now, he could only see her in his dreams from now own...
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 435 I Know I Killed Someone, Will Charles took a deep breath shakily as he walked to the closet, and his fingers trembled as he picked up the suit Sophia had chosen for him during their engagement two years ago.
âCharles, you look handsome as ever in a white shirt and black suit, but I donât think I have ever seen you wearing other colors. Hmm, letâs take this then. Itâs sapphire blue, I wonder how you would look in such a flamboyant shade of color.â
All she did was fell in love with him, yet this love she had for him had cost her innocence, caused her so much pain, and now she and their baby were dead!
Charles hugged the suit to his chest and leaned against the wall, his eyes were hollow and absent, and his chest so heavy he could barely breathe.
However, Sophia was still lying in the hospital all alone...
He pursed his lips and forced himself to pick himself up. He changed into the suit, shaved, and styled his hair before he left the house and set off to the hospital.
âYou can go back now, take the other car.â Charles gave Mr. Logan another set of car keys as he got into the Bentley.
Sophia had only taken this car because she liked the car model.
He wanted to use this car to send her off.
