Charles stared blankly at the blood streaks on the ground and the scorched car, and his mind went completely blank in an instant.
If Sophia was the victim of this car accident...
âMr. Harris, donât get upset yet. Didnât Ms. Yates say that Ms. White had no money with her? She might not be the one who got into this accident,â the driver suggested softly.
Charles tightened his fists and stumbled his way to the police officers.
âMr. Harris, is something the matter?â One of the police officers immediately recognized Charles.
With great difficulty, Charles forced himself to open his mouth and asked, âWho... is the victim? How is the victim now?â
âThe victim suffered extreme burns all over the body and the chances of surviving that is very low. The fire has disfigured the victimâs face and we couldnât find anything that could help identify her. Well, there is a possibility that her personal belongings had been burnt to ashes in the fire.
âAt the moment, we only have our victimâs DNA so if anyone is reported missing, we can match the missing personâs DNA with this victim,â the police officer said.
Charlesâ right arm that was rested beside his body trembled slightly as he tapped his thigh several times. âIs it a man or... a woman?â
No, it could not be Sophia!
Grandmother and that mysterious bigshot would not have gone to such lengths to harm her! This must be a coincidence...
However, no matter how he consoled himself, there was still a sense of uneasiness he could not get rid of.
The police officer froze for a moment before he realized that Charles had just asked him whether the victim was a man or a woman. âItâs a woman but besides that, we donât know much about the victim. The victim has been sent to First Hospital so Mr. Harris if you have any more inquiries, I suggest you drop by the hospital to have a look for yourself.â
The police officer excused himself that he still had things to do. Then, he turned to his colleague and said, âItâs a pity that there arenât any surveillance cameras nearby or we could just check the surveillance footage. The car has no license plate and there was a bomb that set off in the car, this is plain murder!â
âWe still have to figure out who the victim is, then at least weâll be able to have a pool of suspects...â
Charles could not hear what the police officers were mumbling about behind him, nor was he in the mood to listen. He clenched his fists and walked back to his car, not even remembering that his driver was with him. He got into the driverâs seat and started the car, stepping on the accelerator as hard as he could.
The scenery outside the car window flew past him so quickly that they were almost blurry, but he still thought that the car was going too slow.
A bomb, premeditated murder, no identification documents... Everything seemed to point to Sophia.
She did not have her purse so none of her identification documents were with her and she was lost in this area. On top of that, someone was indeed trying to harm her...
At the thought of Sophia being confined in the car with no way of crying for help, just listening to the bomb ticking hopelessly, Charles felt as if someone had grabbed his heart. His heart ached and his chest suffocated as he could not breathe.
Beepââ
Beepââ
Beepââ
His phone suddenly began buzzing violently on the front passengerâs seat.
It was Sterling calling.
Charles freed one hand to pick up the phone, and as his finger trembled, he quickly answered the phone and asked, âHave you found Sophia? Where are you now?â
Although he knew that there was very little hope, he could not help but still cling on to that last glimmer of hope and prayed that Sophia was not the car accident victim.
âWe still canât find Soph!â Sterling replied impatiently, âCharles, didnât you hire a team of bodyguards to protect Soph? Call them and ask them where Soph is!â
The bodyguards... Even after knowing that those bodyguards were working for someone else, he still agreed to Sophiaâs terms to keep them by her side just so they could bait the bigger fish...
Charles punched the steering wheel in frustration as rage filled his eyes. Why did he agree with her back then?!
âCharles? Harris? Why arenât you talking? You were the one who hired those bodyguards, donât tell me you canât contact those bodyguards now!â
Sterling was yelling so hard that his voice broke a little.
Charlesâ eyes were bloodshot and the veins on his forearm surfaced. âGo to First Hospital now, I think... Sophia might be there.â
He finished his sentence with great difficulty and hung up straight away.
-
âWhy would Soph be at a hospital? What happened? Hello? Hello! Oi!â Sterling continued yelling anxiously but there was no response. Charles had already ended the call.
He let out a string of curses and tried calling again but no one answered.
Nicole was getting anxious as well while she waited beside him. âSo? What did Mr. Harris say? Why does it sound like Soph is at the hospital? What is she doing there?â
âHarris didnât say much, he just told me that Soph might be at the hospital and asked us to hurry over!â He quickly made a mental note to himself to pay a visit to the temple and request some crystals for protection. Their family had been experiencing too much bad luck recently!
âLetâs not fuss over this anymore. Hurry up and get a taxi, letâs head to the hospital now,â Nicole offered.
Their Ferrariâs tires were punctured now and it would be too much of a hassle to go back home to switch another car.
Sterling complained that a taxi would be too inconvenient, and so he decided to call one of his friends nearby to send them to the hospital.
âWhatâs wrong, Ster? Why are you so anxious? Do you know anyone who was admitted to the hospital?â His friend asked curiously when they arrived at the entrance of the hospital.
Sterling opened the door to let Nicole down the car before following behind her.
âDonât ask any questions but please wait here! Havenât you always liked that jade sculpture outside my office? You can have it as a thank-you gift!â
With that, Sterling slammed the car door and ran into the hospital without even looking back.
As soon as they entered the building, a doctor approached them and asked, âExcuse me, are you Mr. and Mrs. White?â
Nicole nodded anxiously and forced herself to calm down as she asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 422 Donât Move If You Donât Want Him To Die âMr. Harris requested me to bring Mr. White over to take his blood for a DNA test.â The doctor did not waste any time as he could tell how anxious the two of them were.
Sterling could not figure out what getting a DNA test had to do with finding his sister. âNo! Where is he now? Bring me to see him!â
What the heck was Charles trying to do? He just wanted to find Soph and see how she was!
He spoke as he pulled Nicole toward the elevator.
The doctor quickly stopped them and said, âThere was a car accident victim admitted a while ago who suffered extreme burns to her face and body.
The victim has no identification documents with her but Mr. Harris suspects that the victim who is now in the emergency room might be Ms. White.â
âCar, car accident... victim? Emergency room?â Sterling asked dumbfoundedly, seemingly in a daze. He could hear a loud buzzing sound in his eyes and his mind instantly went blank.
How was this...
He had just Soph a few hours ago at Master Harrisâ funeral and she was just fine! How did she suddenly become a car accident victim?
Harris and that doctor must have made a mistake!
âNo, Iâm not going to do a DNA test! You must have made a mistake! My sister always carries a purse with her and Iâm sure she always has her identification documents inside! How is it possible that she didnât have anything with her?!â
âShe... She had a team of bodyguards too! Those people are in charge of protecting her and ensuring her safety, they would never let anything happen to her! Thatâs right, all of you must have made a mistake! Iâm not going to take a DNA test!â
In reality, Sterling knew that it was quite likely that something was wrong with the bodyguards. Something terribly wrong.
However, he refused to admit it!
