It was indeed normal for her to have such suspicions. After all, it was facts.
Sophia tugged on her sleeves. How could she reassure Sylvia and dispel her suspicions?
âIf it was someone other than Charles, your guess could have been at least 90% accurate.â
Sylvia remained smiling at her, and judging from her smiley eyes, Sophia could not tell what she was thinking.
Not knowing what was going on in her mind, Sophia had no choice but to continue. âWhen I was released from prison, Charles gave me a complete makeover and imprisoned me at the club. Iâm sure you know about this, right?â
Sylvia nodded and said nothing more.
Jax, on the other hand, asked, âYeah, so what?â
Sophia had the tendency to blink when she lied, so she was trying her best to control her instinct right now. âWell, Charles suspected that I was cheating on him with William. Despite how annoyed he was and how much he hated me then, he still kept me by his side so he could keep an eye on me.â
âEven when he hated me the most, he still didnât let me out of his sight, let alone now.â
Although this explanation sounded somewhat legitimate, there was something that did not make sense.
Sophia desperately prayed that Sylvia would believe her statement, but instead...
âFrom what I know, Charles kept you at the club just to humiliate you, not to watch you.â
Sophia curled her fingers uncomfortably. âDid you not notice that Charles went to the club quite often during that period? If he merely wanted to humiliate me, he could have simply ordered someone to do so, he didnât have to go over almost every day, and certainly not several times in a day too, did he?â
Sylvia narrowed her eyes at Sophia with disbelief.
Sophia felt her back turn cold as she swiftly cast a look out the car window.
The funeral had just ended so there were a lot of people outside coming and going. If she called for help now, someone would certainly hear her, but she did not know if they would help her.
After all, the people here were all notable figures, they probably would not offend someone just for someone as irrelevant as her.
âCharles did move his documents to the club during that period of time, I donât think Sophia is lying,â Jax nudged closer to Sylvia and whispered into her ear.
A look of dissatisfaction instantly flashed across Sylviaâs eyes.
Charles was a workaholic and he had never done such a ridiculous thing. It seemed that Sophia truly held a significant influence over him.
âDo you have anything else to say?â Sylvia asked.
Sophia was worried that the more she talked, the more likely she might make a mistake, and so she did not want to explain anything further. âYou can always trump up a charge against me if youâre out to condemn me. No matter what I say, you wouldnât believe me either.â
Then, she casually reached for the door. Just as she tried to open the door, she noticed the car door was locked.
Sylvia locked the car doors?
What was the meaning of this?
Sophia immediately paled and her palms turned cold. She would not be able to escape even if she tried to, seeing how many people Sylvia had with her...
âWhy are you in a hurry to leave? Even your expression changed too. Are you scared? Did you lie to me and got worried that Iâll find out?â Sylvia was still doubtful of Sophiaâs words.
This young lady was clearly not as intelligent as Leah, but she was not exactly dumb either. After all, she did manage to deceive Master Harris. Sylvia knew better than to let her guard down!
Sophiaâs eyes widened as her throat tightened slightly.
She clung to the car door, not bothered to hide her nervousness this time. âSo what if Iâm telling you the truth? You wouldnât believe me either if I told you the truth so itâs meaningless! Besides, what are you trying to do? Why did you lock the door?â
Sylvia chuckled. âYouâre quite a smooth talker yourself, no wonder you were capable of deceiving my ex-husband.â
âI donât think sheâs lying,â Jax said, âAt the end of the day, sheâs just a twenty-year-old child, do you think sheâs good enough to deceive the two of us?â
Sophia gripped her sleeves and she could only hear the sound of her heart beating in her ears, thumping so hard as if it was about to leap out of her chest.
âWell, itâs not that I canât believe you.â
Sophia got nervous as she heard Sylviaâs words, and her gut feeling told her that Sylvia had a bad idea brewing in her head.
Sure enough... âThe one thing men find most unacceptable is when the woman they love sleeps with another man. If you lose your baby and sleep with another man, even if Charles knows that you were being threatened, I donât think heâll be able to accept you anymore.â
â!â
Sylvia wanted her to get an abortion and force her to have sex with another man?
Sophia heard a loud buzz in her eyes. Sitting in the front passenger seat, she was quite close to the driver. As soon as she heard Sylviaâs words, she quickly leaned over to unlock the doors and dashed out of the car.
She would not let anyone touch her child!
âGet her.â Sylvia did not even move a finger as she ordered the bodyguards outside.
The bodyguards nodded and quickly grabbed Sophia.
âHeââ Mmph!â
There were many people outside and Sophia wanted to call for help, but as soon as she tried shouting, a bodyguard came forward and covered her mouth.
However, her voice was loud enough to attract attention still, and a few people glanced over in her direction.
A glimmer of hope rose in Sophiaâs heart. Perhaps those people might come over and save her, or perhaps inform Charles and Sterling that she was in danger.
However, when she saw the few people who looked turn around, the tiny hope she had vanished into thin air.
It was Mr. Phillips, Mr. Sommer, Mr. Johnson, as well as both Mr. and Madam Jones. They would never come forward to help her!
Just as she had expected, they quickly turned back around when they saw her and pretended as if they did not see anything. Madam Jones, clearly delighted at her misfortune, even hurried away with the rest of them.

Sophia mustered all her strength and bit the bodyguard. Then, she swiftly turned around and jerked her knee toward his crotch.
The bodyguardâs face instantly paled and he lurched forward as his knees buckled together, pain written all over his face.
Sophia immediately took the chance and ran away with one hand over her abdomen.
This was her and Charlesâs baby, she would not let anything happen to the baby!
âHelpâââ
Before Sophia could shout for help again, she felt a jolt of pain on her neck and crumpled to the ground.
Before passers-by could see who she was, the bodyguards swarmed over and quickly carried her into the car. Then, Sylviaâs car finally left, with another car trailing behind.
When Sterling finally finished talking to one of the ministers, he looked around the room but there was no sight of Sophia.
That was strange, where did she go? Why did she not tell him when she left?
He pulled out his phone and tried calling her number, but after two tries, nobody picked up. Right then, he saw Clara coming in his direction and he quickly went over to ask her, âMs. Robertson, did you see my sister?â
âI saw her about half an hour ago, she was with Big Iceberg but I havenât seen her since! Whatâs up?â Clara answered as she glanced around the room, and when she did not spot Sophia either, she asked, âDid she leave with Big Iceberg?â
How unfortunate, she wanted to suggest buying some drinks and snacks to celebrate at Sophiaâs house since going to a bar was inconvenient!
âNevermind, Iâll try looking around again.â
Most of the funeral guests had already left, so it would have been easy to find Sophia if she was here.
However, Sterling still could not find her after searching around for a very long time. Anxious and frustrated, he tried calling her again.
