Clara did not get Sophiaâs hint at all. She gave Sophia a confused look before continuing, âMy dad says that there might be someone influential involved in this but he isnât exactly sure who could it possibly be.â
Sophia felt as if she was on an emotional roller coaster as she listened to Clara speak. She was unsure whether she was more relieved or disappointed when Clara said that she did not know who the person was.
âWhatâs the point of telling us that then?â Zachary rubbed her head with a helpless look on his face.
Clara immediately became aggravated, and with her hands on her hips, she began arguing with him as she glared at him in annoyance.
As the two of them bickered, Justin came over with Sylvia beside her. âIf it werenât for the funeral wreaths, some people might think this was a wedding ceremony by listening to both you two young couples,â he said sarcastically.
Sylvia linked arms with Jax as they stood smiling beside him. They remained quiet as if they were just watching a show.
âWho asked you eavesdrop on us then? Am I right, Sophia?â Clara could not help but roll her eyes. She absolutely loathed two-faced people who dropped indirect hints when they spoke. Just start a fight if you think you can!â
Sophia laughed lightly. âI believe Mr. Justin is a bit unhappy now that Charles has the reins over the Harris family. How could he pick a quarrel if he doesnât keep an eye on us?â
Now that he had lost Master Harris as his backer, the Harris family members were not on his side anymore. Hence, it was only natural for him to be upset.
Although, how did Justin get mixed up with Sylvia?
As if a revelation had suddenly dawned on her, Clara turned to Justin. âInstead of just talking sh*t, you should just be upfront if youâre really that good!
If you canât bring it, stop talking sh*t and trash-talking or youâll just make yourself look even worse.â
Justin was at a disadvantage now, and yet he still dared to provoke Charles. He was clearly asking for trouble!
Justinâs expression changed and he seemed to have something to say, but after glancing at Charles, he excused himself.
âWhat are you doing here?â Charles gave Sylvia a cold look, not bothering to even disguise the disgust in his eyes.
Instead of answering him, Sylvia sized Sophia up as a huge grin spread across her face.
Her stare felt like a cold snake that slithered across every inch of Sophiaâs body. It was disgusting and it sent a shiver down Sophiaâs spine.
Sophia frowned and moved her body slightly, averting her gaze.
âNo matter what, I was once your grandfatherâs wife. Itâs not strange for an ex-wife to show up at her ex-husbandâs funeral to send him off, is it?â
Sylvia took two steps forward toward Charles and touched his head.
Charles immediately backed away to avoid her touch. âWhen were you ever so kind?â
He refused to believe that she was genuinely here to see Grandfather off.
Although her hand was left hanging midair, Sylvia did not feel embarrassed in the slightest. Her eyes noticeably dimmed slightly for a quick second before it vanished and was replaced by a smile. âItâs one of the rare occasions where Iâm speaking the truth, yet you doubt me. Well, thereâs nothing I can do about it.â
Charles gave her a cheeky smirk. âShould you leave yourself or would you prefer I have someone send you off?â
The tension in the air thickened between the two.
Sylvia knew he was not just talking big. âThereâs no need for you to see me out, Iâll leave right after I speak to your grandfather.â
She paused for a moment as her gaze strayed on Sophiaâs abdomen. With an amiable smile, she said, âMs. White, youâre still in your first trimester, arenât you?â
âWhat does it have to do with you?â Charles stood in front of Sophia protectively, his piercing gaze directed straight at Sylvia.
Sylvia looked away casually. âOh, donât be so nervous, Charles, I just wanted to give her a word of kind advice! Your first trimester is the most unstable period of your pregnancy, you should be careful or you might accidentally lose your child.â
Although she called it kind advice, her words sounded unusually harsh.
Sophia was mindful of Sylviaâs threat, but she merely frowned and said nothing. Charles, on the other hand, did not bother to conceal his reaction. His eyes turned cold and his expression darkened.
âThank you for your kind advice, but my girlfriend doesnât share the same drinking and smoking habits as you do, nor would she climb into another manâs bed whilst pregnant, so you donât have to worry so much.â
Sylvia smiled back at him intently. The grin was so uncomfortable that Clara could not help but speak up in dissatisfaction, âYou...â
âItâs fine.â Sophia quickly interrupted her, worried that Clara might get herself dragged into this entire mess. If Sylvia was a petty woman, things might just get even more complicated.
Sylvia glanced at Charlesâs emotionless face and shook her head lightly. Then, with her arm still linked with Jaxâs, they walked over to Master Harrisâ
casket.
âSophia, why didnât you let me finish my sentence?â The mere thought of Sylviaâs smile was enough for Clara to get goosebumps all over herself.
Sophia turned around to look at her. âEvery action you make and every word you say in front of outsiders will be connected to Mr. Robertson. You must be more careful with how you behave and not act rashly.â
She would not have said anything if this was someone else, but Clara had been on her side helping her since the very first time they met each other.
Clara furrowed her brows and pouted. âWhy are all of you always telling me that? I know, okay!â
Her eyes turned sharply as concerned inched upon her face. âSophia, I have a feeling that old woman wants to do something to your baby, I think you should be more careful.â
Sophia had the same feeling as well, but with the bodyguards always trailing behind her and the recording device on her, she knew that it was best that Sylvia did not know that she was taking precautions against her.
Sophia smiled and replied, âDonât worry about it, this child is her great-grandson, Iâm sure she wonât harm him.â
Seeing that Sophia was ignorant of her advice, Clara mumbled on for a while. It was not until Mr. Robertson came over and took her away to meet a few people when she very reluctantly stopped nagging.
âMr. Harris, itâs lonely being at the top. Once youâre at the top, you meet plenty of new people, but at the same time, more people are watching you,â
Mr. Robertson said to Charles earnestly before he left.

Charles still had a lot of work to do after the funeral, and as much as he wanted to keep Sophia by his side, he was worried that she was worn out.
However, if he let her go home to rest, she was worried that Sylvia would take the opportunity and slip in to see her.
âGo get your things done, Iâll go back with Ster. You can come and pick me up if youâre going back to Bamboo Virtues Village tonight, but if something comes up, just give me a call and let me know,â Sophia said.
A company as huge as Harris Corporation was bound to have plenty of big and small happenings on a daily basis. In addition to Master Harrisâ recent passing, there must be a ton of things to settle in terms of the handover of work and household matters. With so much workload on hand, she could not expect him to accompany her all day.

ï¤Chapter 413 Like A Beggar Moreover, Sylvia might suspect something if the two of them constantly kept close to each other.
Charles looked at her, his eyes filled with regret and weariness. He did not say anything as he pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly.
âIâm sorry.â He was sorry that he had dragged her into this complicated affair.
His voice was so soft that it was nearly inaudible, and his body was even shaking very slightly.
Sophia hugged him back and patted his lower back gently. âItâs not your fault.â
Everything that had happened was out of his control. Besides, she was the one who had fallen for him first. If they were truly intent on seeking who to blame, it was all fate.
âMr. Harris.â Mr. Logan had already arrived and was waiting beside them. In the short span of time that he waited, he had checked his watch several times. There must be something urgent.
Charles finally let go of Sophia, but not before he kissed her cheek. âIâll pick you up tonight.â
âAlright, you should go now, donât keep Mr. Logan waiting anymore.â
Sophia watched as the two of them leave, and just as she was about to set off to find her brother, she was stopped by her bodyguards. âMs. White, Ms. Yates is waiting for you outside.â
