If Audrey was being honest, she genuinely wanted to be married to William. Otherwise, she would not have asked Sophia for help, but if the price she had to pay was to drag the Sommer family down, she would rather give up.
However, she was unwilling to give up like this.
âAnyway, just think about it. I know William misunderstood you for some time, but try to remember how good he had been to you. If you donât help him now, you might regret it one day in the future.â
Anyone would reconsider their choices if they were warned that they might regret their decisions, who knew if Sophia might soften up all of a sudden?
Unfortunately for Audrey, Sophia was not an idiot, nor would she soften up all of a sudden. âIf I help the Jones family turn around, Iâll only be aiding them in restoring their strengths to go up against White Industries later on. When that happens, I think Iâll regret it then.â
She could tell that Audrey was not going to badger her anymore, and so she turned to Victor. âIâm getting a bit tired from standing for so long. Dr.
Hemingway, letâs go and sit there for a while.â
Sophia pointed to a corner.
Victor nodded, and under Audreyâs upset gaze, they walked toward the corner together.
âThank you for just now, Dr. Hemingway.â If he had not interfered, who knew how long Audrey would have pestered her.
Victor gave her a smile and replied, âYouâre welcome. Even if I wasnât there, Iâm sure someone would have come to your help. Weâre in Harris territory anyway, Mr. Harris wouldnât allow anyone unwelcome to disturb you.â
There was a stray strand of hair draped by her forehead and he subconsciously reached out to help her push it back her ear, but coincidentally, she was just about to do the same and their hands came into contact.
He was stunned for a moment and quickly withdrew his hand. âIâm sorry.â
Although the contact was brief, the soft touch of her skin lingered in his hand.
A weird feeling flashed through his mind.
âItâs fine.â He had been her attending doctor for a while now, so she was quite used to his physical touch since he usually did her acupuncture sessions and checked her leg. Naturally, she did not think much about a simple action as such where their hands accidentally touched.
Victor stared at her intently. He suddenly realized how long and thick her eyelashes were, that when she lowered her gaze, they would cast a small shadow under her eyelids.
He was suddenly at a loss for words, but he thought it would be awkward if he kept quiet. âWhereâs Mr. Harris? I havenât seen him at all.â
He always enjoyed his time with her and he had never been worried about moments of awkward silence. What was wrong with him today?
âThere are a lot of distinguished guests present today and he has to personally entertain them.â Sophia glanced around the room before she asked, âDidnât Aunt Hemingway come with you?â Technically, the Hemingway family was not exactly close to the Harris family so it was fine for the Hemingway family to just send one representative to attend the funeral.
However, Master Harris was a reputable man. Hence, all the attendees were esteemed societal figures who rarely made appearances in the social scenes. Therefore, anyone who was eligible to attend the funeral was here as a whole family, seizing the opportunity to expand their network.
Madam Hemingway would have appreciated this opportunity very much.
âShe has something urgent to deal with at the hospital but sheâll come over later.â Just like usual, Victor looked at Sophia when he spoke, but when his gaze met hers, he felt his body tense up and his heart suddenly started beating faster than usual.
Something seemed to be wrong with him today.
He gulped nervously and averted his gaze casually. âYou should take good care of your leg and try not to walk too much. I see a few acquaintances there, I should go say hello.â
Perhaps he had been doing too many surgeries recently that his body was starting to wear out. He made a mental note to go for a comprehensive full-body examination when he got back to the hospital later, especially to see a cardiologist.
âAlright.â
Victor got up and took a few steps forward before running into Charles.
Charles looked over him and paused his gaze on Sophia who was not far away. After a short pause, he turned to Victor. âDr. Hemingway, youâre here.â
âYeah.â Victor nodded lightly and continued, âNow that Master Harris just passed away, many of the Harris familyâs rivals should be targeting you. Do keep an eye out and stay alert, Mr. Harris.â
âThank you for your concern, Dr. Hemingway.â

ï¤Chapter 410 Did You Agree To Help William?
âYouâre welcome, Iâm just worried that Ms. White might get involved in your affairs.â
The corners of Charlesâ lower lips curled up slightly but the smile did not reach his eyes. âYou seem to care about my woman a lot.â
âMy aunt is always reminding me to take care of her and look out for her, please donât misinterpret my intentions. Besides, Mr. Harris, you should know better than me how troublesome the Harris familyâs rivals are,â Dr. Hemingway replied.
