âIs there anything else?â Sophia did not share the same complex feelings as him. She only felt appalled and she just simply did not want to see him anymore.
William had indeed come over to see her for other reasons but he did not know how to tell her.
However, Sophia did not give him much time to contemplate. âIf thereâs nothing else, Iâm going to leave now.â
With him standing next to her, she felt as if she was standing beside a pile of garbage and the stench was unbearable.
âWait a minute âââ Williamâs hand reached out to grab her again, but instantly shrank as soon as he saw the look in her eyes.
Sophia did not bother to hide her disgust toward him. She took a few steps backward and widened the distance between the two of them. âWilliam, I canât even remember how many times you have gone back on your words at this point.â
He had promised her more than once that he would never show up in front of her anymore, yet he never followed through with his words.
William opened his mouth slightly to talk but no words came to mind. With no way of defending himself, he merely gave her a bitter smile.
Just as Sophia was about to urge him to quickly speak his mind, she felt someone watching from afar. She followed her instincts and looked around, and sure enough, Audrey was standing among the crowd not far away casting occasional glances at the two of them.
âHurry up if you still have anything to say, your fiancé is staring over there and I donât want her to accuse me of being a vixen trying to seduce you.â
After all, Audrey and his mother loved doing that.
William followed her gaze and paused when he saw Audrey. Instantly, his face was filled with bitterness. âI want to apologize to you on behalf of my mother and Audrey for what they did to you in the past.â
âThey humiliated me in front of so many people, calling me a vixen and a dirty mistress, yet you think an apology from you on behalf of them would suffice?â Sophia replied snarkily.
Besides, the two of them showed no signs of remorse, so this apology would only seem fake and even more repulsive!
William curled his fists. He felt as if his heart was being strangled, and every heartbeat became slower and more difficult.
The scars and injuries he had left were real, and even if he apologized thousands of times more, nothing would change how she felt.
âYouâre changing the topic,â Sophia said, âYour fiancé is still staring, just hurry up and say whatever you want to say.â
William looked at her hesitantly, and after stuttering for a while, he said, âDonât worry, she wonât say anything.â
âThereâs nothing between the two of us so why should I be concerned about what she has to say?â Sophia replied.
She just did not want to be dragged into another undeserved mess!
âSheâs just waiting for an answer.â Williamâs expression was filled with agony, along with a hint of relief and guilt.
Sophia was really not in the mood to deal with him anymore, and so she played along and asked, âWhat answer?â
âJones Groupâs capital chain has ruptured and I would like... to ask you for your help and see if Sterling would be willing to lend the Jones family some money to tide us over. If you say yes, Audrey will stay with me, but if you donât, sheâll call off our engagement.â
Williamâs head lowered even deeper when he got to the last part of his sentence. At that moment, he was so ashamed he wished he could crawl into a hole and hide.
He felt embarrassed for making such a request but he could not just watch as the company fell into pieces...
Sophia was taken aback by what he just said, but when her mind finally processed his words, she could not help but feel amused.
âLet me ask you a question. If White Industries was the one in Jones Groupâs place right now and I go to you to ask for help, would you say yes?â
The issue with Jones Groupâs capital chain was not just a small rupture, but who could possibly help them fill such a huge gap?
âOf course!â William replied without hesitation.
He had owed her too much. As long as she came to him for help, he would certainly help her however possible!
Sophia pursed her lips. âWhat if your parents and Leah disagree with you?â
William went silent.
âWith them standing on the opposing side, you will never be able to help me. At most, youâll just feel guilty about it and come apologize to me. Youâll tell me that youâll come up with a way to make it up to me, but thatâs just what you do, right? You always talk more than what youâre actually capable of, donât you?â Sophia said.
His Adamâs apple bobbed and he opened his mouth several times to speak, yet nothing came out.
She was right.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 408 Who Allowed You To Interrupt âWilliam, thereâs no way Iâll help you. If it werenât for Charles and Master Russellâs help, White Industries would have been in a situation ten times or even hundreds of times worse than Jones Group!
âLetâs not even talk about everything that Leah had done to me. Have you forgotten that I was sent to jail for two years and even hurt my leg? Even if White Industries is able to help you, I would still choose not to because this is what you get for being greedy!â
She was not a saint, but she would most certainly not repay her enemies by helping them out!
William had already expected her answer. He thought he would feel disappointed, but instead, he felt surprisingly relieved.
He had tried and failed, and he did not feel like he owed Sophia anymore.
âAlright, I understand.â William nodded and turned around to leave, but after taking a few steps forward, he turned back again.
He looked at Sophia in the eyes. âIf... If I had chosen to believe you two years ago, would you choose to be with me?â
This had been something he kept pondering ever since knowing the truth about the incident, and he felt as if the problem was stuck in his head if he never got an answer to it.
âNo.â
âWhy?â
âI donât like you.â
Williamâs amber eyes turned sad for a moment and he smiled wryly. âSo no matter what I do wouldnât change how you feel about it, is that it?â
âYes.â Sophia did not leave him any hope at all. She had never had any feelings for him, otherwise, she would have said yes to him when he pursued her for such a long time.
