Mr. Harris frowned, clearly extremely upset. âWho are you to speak to an elder like this? Iâm talking to Charles here, who asked you to interrupt?â
Oscar could not bear to see what supposedly belonged to him to fall into the hands of someone else. âAlan, thereâs nothing wrong with what Sophia said. What Charles has shouldnât be given to an illegitimate child, right?â
âWhat belongs to the Harris family should only stay within the Harris family! If you want to spend money on your b*stard, use the money from your own pocket!â Luna said angrily.
The younger members of the family were indignant as well.
âWe donât even have that much to begin with, yet a shrew carrying a b*stard child dares to come and stick her nose in as well?â
âI have never seen someone as shameless as this Madam Jones in my entire life!â
âShe even brought her husband too! Sheâs really too much!â
Who knew if Madam Jones was genuinely unashamed of herself or was she just pretending not to be embarrassed. When she heard their not-so-
quiet whispers, she quickly said, âThe baby in my stomach is also a Harris! Why donât you just give me some company shares and Iâll leave the baby with the Harris family after the baby is born!â
Worried that she would get upset again, Mr. Harris quickly chimed in, âYour Aunt Lewis is right, our child is also a part of the Harris family so the baby deserves a part of the company shares!â
It seemed that it was impossible for him to just turn around and leave right now.
Charles gave them a condescending sneer. âI wouldnât guarantee that. Seeing how Uncle Jones doesnât mind his wife being with you, he probably doesnât mind sharing a wife with another man, so how do I not know that the baby in Aunt Lewisâ stomach is actually a Jones?â
Ha-ha, it seemed that everyone was truly treating him like an ATM!
Mr. Jones suppressed the rage in his head and forced a smile. âYour Aunt Lewis only slept with your father because she was drunk, and her getting pregnant is just a mere coincidence. I knew about this and no matter how hard it was to accept it, itâs just the truth.â
âItâs not that hard to accept, itâs not like it never happened before anyway,â Charles chuckled before continuing, âIâm quite curious though. Uncle Jones, donât you think itâs embarrassing? When you wanted Leah and I to get married back then, were you not worried at all that Leah and I might have been siblings born of the same mother but different father?â
Mr. Jones had indeed run a paternity test for both his children, but it would only be even more embarrassing if he admitted to such a problem!
Before he could answer, Charles continued, âEven if the baby Aunt Lewis is carrying now is my fatherâs child, I will never give the baby anything.
Otherwise, seeing how many legs he spread outside, wonât I have to split my shares for all my illegitimate siblings?â
It was common knowledge that Mr. Harris had always claimed that he only loved Madam Jones, but he married Yvette and slept around with so many people nobody knew exactly how many mistresses the man had.
âAunt Harris, Iâm getting a bit cold. Do you want to come with me to find a room?â Sophia was worried that this would upset Yvette.
Yvette patted her hand gently and replied, âDonât worry, Iâm fine.â
She was already used to situations like this. Many of her husbandâs mistresses had shown up at their house in the past showing acts of intimidation and threatening her to divorce her husband, and those incidents seemed much calmer than what was currently happening.
Madam Jones had never been a patient woman. âCharles, itâs just a simple yes or no question. Are you willing to split us some shares?â she asked.
âNo,â Charles answered simply.
Madam Jones had not expected him to disrespect her like this, and she instantly flew into a rage out of humiliation. âI brought reporters along too! If you donât mind bringing shame to the Harris family, Iâll have them spread this on the media!â
If this incident was leaked to the press, it would not do Harris Corporation any good. She was certain that this would change his mind!
âGo ahead.â Charles could not be bothered to talk to her anymore and was extremely annoyed at this point. He turned to the bodyguard beside him and said, âThrow them out, we should let Grandfather leave the world quietly and peacefully.â
With that, he guided Sophia to the elevator with his arm still around her waist, no longer caring what Madam Jones had to say.
Mr. Jones wanted to stop them still but Yvette quickly called out to him. âFather is not around anymore so Charles is now the head of the family. I suggest you know your place and watch your step. Think about that before deciding whether to stand up for that beloved wife of yours.â
Upon hearing this, a look of uncertainty spread across his angry face. He took two steps forward before slowly coming to a stop.
Yvette scoffed and laughed to herself. What a worthless wretch!

The news of Master Harrisâ passing shocked the entirety of B City, with every newspaper and media outlet covering his death on the headlines.
Everyone feared Master Harris the most, and now that he had just passed away, someone tried to leak news of Harris Corporationâs involvement in human experiments to the press as an attempt to bring Harris Corporation down, and along with that, gain the upper hand.
However, for some reason, none of the media outlets dared to report this incident. Even the police were refused when they requested help from media outlets to testify.
On the day of Master Harrisâ funeral, every single one of B Cityâs influential officials was present, as well as many prominent figures from overseas.
Even Fredrickson came as a representative from the Russell family to pay respects.
The funeral was unusually lively. None of the attendees bothered to put on a sad face as everyone talked and laughed casually, using this as an opportunity to expand their network.
Sophia and Sterling attended the funeral on behalf of the White family. As for Nicole, she seldom left the house nowadays ever since she lost her arm.
Sterling had always hated such occasions but as soon as he arrived at the venue, he embodied the old James White who fluttered around the scene and exchanged greetings with everyone.
Sophia was not used to her brother talking about topics that he used to hate among the crowd, and so she excused herself.
As soon as she stepped out, someone called her name.
âSophia!â
William hesitated for a while before walking toward her.
Sophia turned away the instant she saw his face. She had nothing to say to the Jones family anymore, nor did she want to see them.
âSophia!â William quickened his steps and grabbed her arm from behind as a bleak look flashed in his eyes.
They used to be close friends in the past and she would never have run away when he called out to her.
Sophia shrugged his hand away and asked impatiently, âWhat is it?â
If it was not for the fact that there were many people around them and she was worried that he would continue pestering her and cause misunderstandings, she would never stop to hear what he had to say!
William lowered his gaze at her with a complicated look in his eyes. âEven if Audrey and I had not talked to you beforehand the last time, you guys already knew what Leah wanted to do, right? You set the trap up for her, didnât you?â

âThatâs right,â Sophia replied.
Leah and the Jones family were the ones to be blamed for being too greedy and vicious. If they had not been so desperate to burn the White family to ashes, they would not have stepped into such a trap and things would not have turned this bad!
Although William already knew the answer he could not bring himself to accept it when he heard her response.
He looked at her and smiled at her bitterly. âSophia, you changed.â
She had changed so much that he almost did not recognize her.
Even so, he was still unable to let her go.
âYeah, I changed, but only because I was forced to by your angelic little sister.â Sophia looked back at him with a frosty look.
Humans were bound to change to survive.
There was neither accusation nor anger in her eyes. It was just as if she was staring at a stranger.
However, it ignited a raging fire in Williamâs soul, one that was so painful he almost wanted to curl up into a ball. âIâm sorry.â
No matter how many more times he apologized, it was useless. Still, he wanted her to hear it.
