âSophia is so lucky to have a friend like you,â Leah smiled and said. She turned her wheelchair to face Charles. âCharles, I know youâre brooding over the fact that Sophia broke my leg, but I donât blame her. Can we let her follow us to the hospital?â
Charles was facing the light. Therefore, Leah could not see his face.
âCharles, just say yes. With you by my side, she wouldnât dare hurt me.â There was a hint of feminine charm to Leahâs words.
Sophia chuckled coldly in her heart. Leah was trying to take it upon herself to separate Charles and her. Even if he had agreed to let her go with them earlier, he would be against the idea of it now.
She was ready to be rejected when Charles said, âPush Leah out.â
The complacency in Leahâs eyes disappeared. She was stunned. This time, she forced a smile. âBe careful. Donât be as clumsy as last time. You almost made me fall which made my brother misunderstand you.â
Her voice was not soft. Rather than her words being directed at Sophia, it sounded more like she was speaking to Charles and William.
Nevertheless, Charles only left his reflection with her. Things did not go as she had planned.
âIf you know your place, you wonât try to do anything to Leah,â William walked toward Sophia and warned her after bending down.
Megan wanted to stand up for Sophia, but when she saw the expressionless William and the pitiful Leah, she ended up falling silent. She felt extremely uneasy.
Sophia tugged at the corner of her lips. âI only wanted to prove myself.â
They said she had attempted murder and would kill Leah. They said she was cruel and would torture Leah several times. Hence, when they scolded her, she did not feel wronged.
âWhat are you trying to do now?â William asked her with a low voice. It sounded like he was speaking from his throat.
âMr. Jones, donât worry.â Sophia backed away slightly and distanced herself from him. âDo you think Iâd dare to do anything to Miss Jones when you and Mr. Harris are here?â
âItâs good that youâre aware of that.â When William saw her distancing herself from him, he felt bad. However, he frowned and suppressed the weird emotion in his heart.
He would not fall in love with a woman who had intentions of killing his little sister.
A hint of sarcasm flashed across Sophiaâs eyes. âIf youâre still worried, just follow your sister for the next 24 hours in case an opportunity for me to harm her presents itself.â
William peered at her coldly and walked toward Leah. He said something after leaning down and strode away.
âSophia, I...â Megan secretly took a look at Leah. She spoke with a flustered face.
Sophia interrupted her and said, âYou can go back first if you have something to take care of. Iâm going to attend my physical therapy with Miss Jones.â
Megan did not want to offend Leah because of Sophia. It was understandable. After all, even her own family had disowned her.
âIâm sorry!â Megan smiled in embarrassment and reached out her hand. âYou have to push the wheelchair, so itâs inconvenient for you to take these.
Let me bring them back for you.â
âThanks.â Sophia passed the shopping bags to her.
On one side, Leah sighed lightly. She said, âYou two have a really close relationship. Sophia, this girl is so good to you. Donât do what you did to me to her.â
Megan took the shopping bags from her and looked at her in confusion.
âItâs nothing. Back then, Sophia and I were best friends. In the end... Letâs not talk about this tragedy.â Leah looked at her leg and smiled bitterly.
Megan smiled awkwardly. She looked at Sophia and then at Leah. Her face had an expression of embarrassment on it, and she could not put a finger on her emotions.
âDonât let Mr. Harris wait too long. Megan, weâre going now.â Sophiaâs face was indifferent. Her knuckles turned white from clenching the wheelchair too tightly.
She pushed Leah to the parking lot and found Charles sitting in the Bentley. He opened the door and got out but did not even look at her. Instead, his gaze fell directly on Leah.
Sophia lowered her eyes. She was already used to this.
He was only concerned about Leah. She had been aware of it from a very long time ago.
âThank you, Charles.â Leah lifted her head to look at him. There was love and adoration in her eyes.
Charles walked to the front of the wheelchair, bent down, and slid his perfect fingers under her armpit and knee to pick her up.
Sophia stood behind the wheelchair and watched as his features basked in the sunlight. He was so handsome. He looked exactly the same as when she first met him.
Nevertheless, his youth was gone and the woman he loved was in his arms.
Sophia watched as Leah circled her arms around Charlesâs neck shyly while the latter looked at her. At that moment, Sohpia felt as if a knife had stabbed her heart and blood was flowing down from her chest.
âSophia, thereâs no more space in the back. You should seat in the passenger seat,â Leah rolled down the window and said with a smile, âOh, right, please put the wheelchair in the boot.â
Sophia walked past her and looked at Charlesâ emotionless face. After a while, she nodded and averted her gaze before placing the wheelchair in the boot.
âOh, place some tissue under your seat. Do it yourself,â the driver said.
Sophia replied with a grunt and opened the door. Then, she pulled out some tissue with her trembling hands and spread them out on the seat and floor of the car. Only after that did she get into the car.
âIâm so sorry to order you around like a maid,â Leah bit her lip and said pitifully.
Sophia smoothened out the creased tissue and tidied her shirt by pulling on its edge. She said flatly, âItâs fine.â
She took in a deep breath and said while holding in her displeasure, âI broke your leg. Just think of this as compensation.â
Sophia thought that by admitting defeat to Leah, it might at least make Charles hate her less.
As long as she could prevent him from seeking revenge upon her, what was admitting defeat anyway?
Charles tilted his head to look at her. The expression in his eyes was unreadable, but he shifted his gaze in the blink of an eye.
âEven though what you did as compensation means nothing to me, Iâm still touched.â Leah smiled and looked at the tissue on the seat and the floor.
âWhy did you put tissue under you?â
Sophia licked her dry lips. There was the smell of cosmetics in her mouth. She looked at Charles from the rearview mirror and her eyes met his by chance.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 42 His Heart Hurt All Of A Sudden Her heart trembled and she shifted her eyes. âI donât want to dirty Mr. Harrisâ car.â
âIs that so?â Leah blinked and a confused expression appeared on her cute face. âHowever, the last time when I got drenched in the rain, I got into the car soaking wet. Charles didnât say anything back then.â
She turned around to look at Charles. âRight, Charles?â
Sophia felt her throat tighten. She rolled a piece of tissue with her right hand into a ball. It was as if all the air in her chest was being sucked out.
She tried her best to pretend that everything was fine. She did not want to look too battered.
âYeah.â When Charles noticed Leahâs smirk, he continued, âI didnât have any tissue.â
Leahâs smile froze.
âWe didnât have any tissue in the car last time. However, now that we have it, put it under you when you get in next time.â Charles pulled out a pack of tissues and placed it between them. âOr do you want to put it under you when the car stops.â
Leah bit her lip and pouted playfully. âCharles, how can you make this kind of joke?â
