Sophia looked up at him, only to realize that he seemed to be in a worse mood than before.
âWhatâs the matter?â Sophia asked.
Charles looked down at her, the look in his eyes so deep like a vortex that could suck in her entire soul. âHe touched your leg again?â
Taken aback by his question, Sophia was stunned for a moment before she processed what he had said and was at a loss whether to cry or laugh.
âDr. Hemingway didnât touch my leg, heâs just doing my routine checkup.â
He was already as mature as an adult when he was ten years old, but how could he be so childish about something like this?
Aside from that, Dr. Hemingway was only helping her for Aunt Lucyâs sake, so why was he constantly unusually competitive with the doctor?
Charles snorted lightly and cupped her chin as he pecked her lips. âLet him know thereâs no need to get the specialists, Iâll find them for you.â
âIt doesnât matter whoâs the one calling the specialists, theyâre the same people anyway so whatâs the difference? Besides, Dr. Hemingway hasnât done anything to me, why are you so jealous?â
Charles did not answer her question, but he still seemed upset.
However, Sophia understood his domineering personality and how he was more possessive than others. She clung to his arm and said softly, âAlright, Iâll do as you say. Iâll call Dr. Hemingway now and tell him thereâs no need to trouble himself anymore.â
At the end of the day, it did not matter who was the one handling this matter so there was no need to upset him with such a small issue that could be easily settled.
Now that she had given in, he changed his mind all of a sudden. âNever mind, Iâll just think of it as owing him a favor then.â
After all, Victor had already reached out to the specialists. If Sophia turned him down now, it would only make her seem unkind.
Sophia, â...â
Clearly, whoever said that women were as unpredictable as the weather had not met Charles.

Sometime in the middle of the night as the two were asleep, Yvette called to say that Master Harris did not have much time anymore and urged Charles to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
Charles wanted to let Sophia sleep in after seeing how bleary-eyed she was, but he could not help but worry that the bodyguards might make a move, and so he decided to bring her along to the hospital.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, the rest of the Harris family was already there.
The Harris family had had the entire floor covered. Aside from the bodyguards standing guard by each entrance, only the Harris family members were allowed on the floor. Nevertheless, it was still a chaotic scene and it was noisier than a morning market.
âHasnât Grandpa been doing alight recently? What happened that heâs suddenly on the verge of death?â
âI donât know much about the specifics but I heard that Grandpa just started vomiting blood all of a sudden, and when he was rushed into the emergency room, the doctors said that the situation does not look good!â
âSo is Dad awake or in a coma now? Did he mention anything about his will when he came around?â
âEverything to do with the company shares is clearly stated but there are still properties, antiques, and whatnot, and all those altogether add up to quite a large amount of money. I think we should get a lawyer to sort it out, otherwise, itâs not worthwhile at all to fight among each other because of this!
âI was thinking the same. The lawyers are already waiting downstairs, let me give them a call and have them come up.â
Master Harris was literally fighting for his last breath, but whether it was the three wives who had birthed his children, the dear sixth grandson he loved the most, or the younger ones who feared him very much, none of them showed any sign of sadness.
Everyone was discussing all of Master Harrisâ indisposed assets, trying to properly distribute everything while he was still alive so they could try to get more of it.
Sophiaâs heart went cold when she saw this. It was then she realized how fickle human relationships are and how cold the human heart actually was, and it was only more prominent in big families like the Harris family.
However, knowing Master Harris personally, she knew there was not much to be sympathetic about.
The Harris family might think of Master Harrisâ death as sudden and his death was inevitable, but if she was not mistaken, Charles had told her that even if there were no drug treatments available, Master Harris would still have some time.
Now that Master Harris had suddenly gone into critical condition, it was quite likely that someone did something.
âCharles, why did you bring Soph along? Itâs so late!â Yvette walked toward them. Judging from her expression, she seemed stressed out, probably because of Mr. Harris and Madam Jones.
Sophia smiled and replied, âHe didnât actually want to but I pestered him to let me come along.â
As soon as she finished her sentence, Ted approached them and chimed in, âOf course Charles brought her along, sheâs carrying Grandfatherâs first great-grandson. Who knows, it might be his intention to use this to his advantage and get more than his share from Grandfather.â
Sophia dared not refute as Ted was an elder after all, and especially because this was a sensitive issue.
Although Charles did not like his uncleâs narrow-minded comment, he merely ignored him.
Yvette, on the other hand, snickered and said casually, âOf course we have to come, thereâs so much money at play. Donât be too envious of us, Ted!
After all, this is all up to fate, you should stop urging Justin and his brothers to try for a baby.â
âYvette, donât you think thatâs very rude of you?â Tedâs expression darkened.
âHow am I being rude? Even after searching for other women outside to bear their children, those sons of yours still canât get a girl pregnant!
Everyone knows about it too and itâs quite a funny joke. As your sister-in-law, Iâm just kindly advising you for your own good.â
âDonât get too carried away yet! Father never liked you and that husband of yours, so what if you can give him a great-grandson? That doesnât mean youâll get more shares than us!â Ted was extremely aggravated upon hearing her words.
The two of them were talking quite loudly, and with Charles being present as well, the scene drew Oscar and the othersâ attention.
Everyone stared at the barely noticeable bump on Sophiaâs stomach as doubtful thoughts flashed through their mind.
âCharles, even if Sophia has your baby, both of you arenât officially married yet so she isnât considered a Harris. Isnât it a bit inappropriate for her to be here right now?â Luna, the eldest daughter of the Harris family cast Sophia a cold look and directed her snarky remark at Charles.
The younger members of the Harris family had no say in this, but they could not help but turn over to watch what was happening.
Charles kept an arm around Sophia and a steady, calm expression as he replied, âI donât have a choice. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, Iâm sure you understand that, right? I was forcefully separated from her while I was in jail so I really donât want to be away from her for another second right now.â
âWe were all young once so we understand how young people are more clingy when they first fall in love but Charles, no matter what, Sophia is not a part of the Harris family, nor is she an official daughter-in-law of the Harris family. Hence, I donât think itâs appropriate for her to be here,â Oscar said Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 401 Burden with a sly grin.
He was on the same page as Luna ââ they wanted Sophia to leave. They meant the same, but their words sounded different.
It was clear that they were all worried that Master Harris would remember the baby Sophia was carrying and give Charles more of his inheritance.
âUncle Oscar, I donât want you to talk about how Sophia isnât officially my wife,â Charles said, âI will marry Sophia no matter what so sheâs bound to be Mrs. Harris sooner or later.â
Luna could not be bothered to talk to him anymore. âI donât care what you say, Sophia has not legally married into the Harris family so sheâs not a part of the family! Can someone come and take Sophia home so she can rest? Sheâs a pregnant lady, she shouldnât be staying up this late!â
