The thugs did not want to aggravate him, and the sight of the strong, burly bodyguards standing aside scared them, and so they quickly backed away upon hearing this.
âIâll head upstairs first then.â
âAlright.â
Sophia looked at Charles for a little while longer before going upstairs.
She knew well that if she insisted on staying here, she would only drag him down.
Seeing her leave, the bodyguards trailed behind as well.
âI asked her to go but did I give you orders to follow her?â Charles immediately called after them.
âSorry, Mr. Harris,â the leader of the bodyguards apologized and went to stand beside Charles.
Charles finally let go of Sawyerâs hand and reached for a tissue from the table, which he used to wipe his hands slowly. âItâs not early anymore, I would like to have a good rest. Please take your men and leave right now.â
Seeing that Charlesâ attention was divided now, Sawyer helped the injured Shawn to the corner of the room right behind the thugs and waved to them. âGet him!â
âWait a minute.â Charles raised his hand and stopped them.
Sawyer snorted. âAre you scared now? Well, Iâm not a petty person so if you kneel down and kowtow to me, maybe say âuncleâ along with it, Iâll ask them to stand down. What do you think?â
To think that he used to think Charles Harris was such a powerful man when he was just an arrogant b*stard who was so pompous because of his family name!
The elders at home had exaggerated his ability!
Charles merely ignored him as his expression darkened. He rolled his sleeves up, showcasing his beautifully sculpted forearms, then proceeded to retie his robe.
âMr. Harris, have you made up your mind?â Sawyer thought back of all the times he had suffered grievances before Charles and sneered hatefully.
He was going to avenge all those moments once and for all!
Charles looked up at him and twiddled his belt, and just as Sawyer was about to shout again, a kick landed on the thugâs chest who was standing at the front.
âIf thatâs the case, we wonât hold back anymore! All of you, go!â The one thing Sawyer loathed most about Charles was his unperturbed demeanor. It gave him the impression that Charles was not taking him seriously.
Charlesâ expression remained unchanged as he fought the lot one after another. Being amateur fighters, the thugs only knew how to swing their weapons at bodies.
Charles, on the other hand, had learned Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Karate according to the system. Every punch and every kick that he made was targeted at the weakest spot of the human body.
Not long after, a dozen men laid crumpled on the ground whereas the remaining ones standing aside exchanged nervous glances with each other, none of them willing to attack anymore.
Sawyer was livid.
âNobody else?â Charles swept his gaze across the room at the thugs as he clapped his hands. Seeing that each of them was taking small steps backward, he looked away.
He adjusted the belt around his waist that had loosened slightly as he spoke casually, âAlright then. Mr. Phillips, Mr. Johnson, do you mind leaving now?â
Sawyer had a few of the men help Shawn and he walked toward Charles.
âMr. Harris, donât blame me for being blunt but itâs about time you realize that things are going to change. Now that the Harris family is allegedly involved with human experiments, letâs not even talk about whether things would go back to normal as before, it would be a miracle if your company doesnât go bankrupt. Once the Harris family is finished, what good will your fighting skills be?â
At this point, Sawyer laughed out humorlessly as he continued, âActually, it wonât be completely useless, you can become a muscleman yourself.â
He inched closer to Charles. âWhy donât you consider being mine? I can double your pay too!â
Charles had never bothered with people who talk nonsense. He grabbed Sawyerâs hands, and in a flash, snapped three of his fingers.
Sawyer stared at him in disbelief as pain shot up his hand and sweat instantly drenched his face. âYou...â
âThink of this as the price you pay for being highly conceited before even figuring out the entire picture.â Charles shoved him aside and continued coldly, âDo you want to leave by yourself or would you prefer to be thrown out?â
Having three of his fingers broken, Sawyerâs arm could not stop trembling from the pain. However, he was unwilling to get ordered around by Charles again even after him losing his status!
âMr. Harris, I think youâre the one who needs to figure out whatâs going on. The Harris family is now reported to be involved with human experiments, this will surely leave a mark on the companyâs reputation if it doesnât ruin all of you! How dare you act so arrogantly right now? Are you not worried that one day in the near future you might have to come to the Sawyer and Johnson family for help?â
Obviously, Charles was not.
A person who had his own values and principles would always stick to his own beliefs whereas those with none would remain the same. Both had nothing to do with what others would do.
Many people in the capital market lacked their own principles, and almost 99% of them were wolves that pounced on every opportunity that would gain them personal benefits.
It did not matter how courteous he was with the Phillips and Johnson family, they would still swarm like rats if there was anything potentially benefitting!
âThrow Mr. Phillips and Mr. Johnson out. As for the others, let them crawl out themselves,â Charles told the bodyguards before heading up the stairs.
Since the bodyguards were technically officially hired by Charles, they had to follow his orders so as to not arouse suspicions. They grunted and grabbed both Sawyer and Johnson before throwing them out the door, all the while ignoring their mildly intimidating threats and feeble bribes.
After being single-handedly beaten up by Charles, the thugs no longer dared to fight anymore. They climbed up and quickly scurried out the door, some of them helping one another.
Meanwhile, Sophia paced around the room anxiously ever since she returned to the bedroom.
Sawyer and Shawn had brought so many men over, and in addition to the five disloyal bodyguards, she was worried that Charles might be hurt!
Creak.
She heard the door opening.
Sophia froze in her tracks. Her body instantly tensed up as she stared at the door vigilantly.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 400 Why Are You Being So Pretentious As soon as she saw Charles walking through the door, her body relaxed slightly and she walked up to him. After sizing him up and making sure that he was unharmed, she finally let out a sigh of relief.
âIâm fine.â Charles massaged the back of her neck as a vague smile crept upon his lips.
He was just about to tell her what happened downstairs when Sophia covered his mouth and retrieved the black device from her pocket to show him.
Charles held the recorder in his hand, and after looking at it, his eyes turned cold and he stretched his hand about to throw it away.
Sophia quickly snatched it back and placed it in her palm as she shook her head furiously.
They still had no idea what Sylvia was trying to do and who the mysterious big shot behind the scenes was, and the only way to uncover Sylviaâs motive is to play along with Sylviaâs charade!
Charles stared at the recording device on her palm glumly as his right hand that was resting behind his body knocked on the side of his leg.
If it was not for him, she would never have been entangled in this mess!
He would make all these people who were troubling her pay for what they did!
Noticing that he was upset, Sophia inched closer and pulled his arms around her. Then, she rubbed her head against her chest adoringly.
âDid you go for your treatment session?â Charles held her in his arms and kissed the side of her ear as he suppressed the surging force rushing through his body.
âYeah. Dr. Hemingway told me that my leg should fully recover soon. Aside from that he also said that he contacted a few professionals specializing in vegetative states to come over and have a look at Dad.â
Sophia thought this would make Charles less worried, but instead, he went silent for a long time after what she told him.
