âDo... Do I? I guess Iâm just worried that Mr. Harris would find out about our plan,â Nicole replied with a rigid smile as sweat beaded her forehead.
Sterling felt bothered by Sophiaâs tone. âYour boyfriend was the one who let our family down, why are you lashing out at your sister-in-law?â
âDonât blame Soph, Iâm sure she meant well.â Nicole glared at him before comforting Sophia. âYou know your brother and his attitude, he says whatever he thinks without consideration of others, donât take it to heart.â
She took Sophiaâs hand and patted it gently just like she usually did.
However, Sophia flung her hand away without hesitation. With a cold face, she snorted. âI can see for myself that my brother has no bad intentions.â
Footsteps sounded as Charles joined them in the living room.
Nicole took a few steps backward as her expression instantly paled.
Sterling immediately stood up and the shock in his face was quickly replaced with anger. Then, he rushed forward and threw a punch.
âSter, if you want to hit him, you can do it over my dead body first!â Sophia dashed forward as well and stood herself in front of Charles.
Sterlingâs eyes were bloodshot and he was close to throwing his punch, but when he saw Sophia standing before Charles, he retracted his hand.
âSophia, god d*mn it, have you lost your mind? Heâs the reason Mom is dead now! He killed Mom, yet here you are defending him! What the h*ll are you thinking?â Sterling yelled out in agony.
âSter, please just listen to me first.â Sophia felt as if her heart was being sliced open, seeing her brother like this.
Sterling covered his ears as a pained look spread across his face. âNo! I donât want to hear any excuses, d*mn it, I donât want to hear anything from you! No matter what Mom did to you in the past, sheâs still the woman who raised you for almost twenty years!â
âSheâs dead now and itâs all because of your boyfriend, yet you still dare to defend him! Are you crazy? Sophia, get the h*ll out of my house now! You can get yourself out of the White family as well, I donât want to see your face ever again!â
Sophia walked in front of him and grabbed his arm. She softened her voice and pleaded, âSter, please listen...â
âScram! Get the h*ll away from me! F*ck off!!!â Worried that he would hurt her, Sterling forced himself to control his strength as he shoved her away.
How ridiculous!
His sister was willing to disregard what happened to their mother because of a man, yet he was still worried about hurting her!
Charles stepped forward and pulled Sophia into his arms. Casting an icy glare at Sterling, he sneered. âI actually thought you changed for the better, but youâre still the same as before, speaking and acting on hearsay!â
âMy wife already brought out all the evidence there is, how can you still make excuses for yourself?â Sterling replied angrily, âIf youâre not the one who did it, why did you ask someone to delete the chat records? Youâre the f*cking president of Harris f*cking Corporation, do you have that much time on your hands to waste?â
Charlesâ expression was dark. âIf you werenât Sophiaâs brother, you would be dead right now because of what you just said.â
Perhaps this may sound arrogant and boastful, but everyone present knew well that he certainly had the power to do so.
âD*mn it youâââ Sterling gritted his teeth as he picked up the chair beside him.
Just as he was about to throw it at Charles, Sophia pushed Charles aside and cried out, âSter!â She cried out.
Bang!
Sterling threw the chair back to the ground in frustration as his hand went to his chest. âSophia, why are you... How the h*ll did I end up with a sister like you!â He howled out in pain.
âDonât play the tough guy if something like this happens the next time!â Charles frowned at Sophia as he pushed her behind him. Then, he took out his phone and pulled up his chat with Nicole before tossing his phone at Sterling. âSee for yourself!â
Nicoleâs eyes widened in fear as she anxiously ran over to snatch over the phone.
However, Sterling moved first and quickly glanced through the chat. The more he read, the more shocked he looked.
âThis is impossible! You forged this!â He threw the phone to the floor and stomped on it.
When he saw that the phone was still good as new, he grabbed his hair in aggravation and yelled, âHammer! Get me a f*cking hammer right now!â
Nicoleâs eyes were red as she stared at her husband, her mouth opened several times but nothing came out.
James stood up and slowly walked over. âNikki, were you really involved in Jennyâs death?â
âWhat do you mean involved?!â Sterling yanked Nicole behind him and shrieked, âSheâs clearly being framed by Harris! She has absolutely nothing to do with this!â
Even he himself did not know who was he yelling at, or was he just deceiving himself.
âYes, I did it all.â Nicoleâs voice was soft and light as she walked up from behind Sterling.
Throughout the past few days, Sophia had suspected that Nicole was the culprit behind all this, but hearing Nicole admit it herself right this moment, she still found it difficult to accept.
If she already felt this way, how would Sterling feel?
âWhat... What did you just say?â Sterling turned around stiffly, his face completely blank.
Nicole lowered her head and continued, âI did this. I paid someone to talk to Mom and send out all the chat records to frame Mr. Harris.â
âImpossible!â Sterling grabbed her arm. âHoney, even if you did do it, you have your reasons right? Thereâs no reason for you to do this unless something is forcing you to!â
Nicole bowed at him. âIâm sorry, Sterling.â
She was admitting that she had done everything.
All the blood drained from Sterlingâs face as he stumbled backward. Sophia quickly went forward to hold him.
However, he merely shrugged her off. He clenched his fists as he asked, âWhy?â
âI never liked people like Mom who just cries and whines whenever they have problems. She had been in a low mood recently and she was always complaining to me, and I just got sick of it. I was worried that her two kids would follow in her footsteps and only learn how to cry, so I hired someone to talk to her online.â
âAt first, I thought it didnât matter whether she died. In fact, it might even be a good thing too. It doesnât cost much to hire someone to talk to her anyway.â
Sterlingâs ashen face was filled with menace as he clenched his fists tighter.
Nicole did not move. Instead, she merely closed her eyes.
âWhat about everything you did even after Mom died? What good would it do to you by blaming it on Charles and forcing Soph abroad?â Sterling looked at her. He could not bring himself to hit her.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 381 God Was Truly Unfair Nicole opened her eyes as her fingers fidgeted, tugging on the corner of her sleeves. âNo other reason, I just have feelings for Mr. Harris and I canât bear to see him together with Sophia.â
Sophia had guessed this during their conversation in the washroom yesterday but she simply dismissed it because it was too absurd.
However, her sister-in-law was admitting it herself now!
âYou have feelings... for Charles? Ha... Haha...â Sterling stared at Nicole incredulously as he started hitting his head. Suddenly, he turned around and ran out of the room.
âSterling!â Nicole cried out in shock.
Nicole ran after her!
âSterâââ Sophia screamed out as she turned around after him.
Charles pursed his lips and without saying another word, he carried Sophia in his arms and left the house.
The White family manor had about a hundred-meter stretch of pavement outside. This was where she bumped into Leah the last time, but right now, there was a convertible speeding toward Sterling.
She opened her mouth, trying to call out to him, but no sound came out.
