A jeering look flashed across Charlesâ eyes. âSecondly, Grandfather is helping me prepare the 25 percent shares and that little mistress of yours in England is green with envy, so she made you talk to me and convince me that her newborn son deserves a piece of the pie as well, is that right?â
âCharles, donât be so harsh,â Mr. Harris said with a frown, âYour grandfather left the 25 percent shares for our family. Whatâs wrong with sharing it with your little brother?â
Charles grinned sarcastically. âI donât have a little brother, though.â
âWhether you acknowledge him or not, your blood says that he is, in fact, your little brother!â Mr. Harris yelled.
Clank!
Yvette set her cup on the table and stood up. âAlan Harris, can you be any more shameless? Itâs one thing for you to parade around with your mistresses and neglect my son, but now that he has earned himself the company shares, you have the audacity to march up to him and snatch it for your illegitimate child? How are you not embarrassed of yourself?â
Sophia always had the impression that Madam Harris was an elegant, prim, and proper lady, the perfect woman whom you would only see in fiction or films. However, she had never seen the lady disregard her image like this.
âIâm talking to Charles here, what are you interrupting for?â Mr. Harris retorted in an unpleasant tone.
Charles tapped his finger lightly on the table as he pulled his tie off and threw it aside. âBefore you give this b*stard child of yours a piece of the shares, donât you think you should at least check if heâs yours?â
â... What do you mean?â Mr. Harrisâ expression darkened even more.
Charles raised his brow and looked at him with amusement in his eyes. âThat little mistress of yours always has a blonde handsome boy following her around, no?â
âThatâs her half-brother,â Mr. Harris sneaked a look at Yvette and could not help but explain himself.
Charles chuckled. âShe claims that heâs her brother and you believe her so easily. When did you become so naive?â
Mr. Harrisâ frown deepened, and his face went pale. He stood there quietly for a long while before he finally stormed out of the room.
âWait a minute!â Charles called after him, âI donât care if itâs Aunt Lewis or any of your other illegitimate children, donât use them as an excuse to come see me and stir up trouble with me anymore in the future.â
Mr. Harris immediately stopped in his tracks and turned around. âCharles, do you think so highly of yourself just because youâve successfully threatened your grandfather? Do you think you donât need to be afraid of anyone anymore?â
âThereâs always someone out there stronger and more powerful than me, Iâd never dare to think that,â Charles answered.
Mr. Harris snorted. âDonât be so proud of yourself and become so ruthless with everyone else, you never know when a day comes when you might regret it.â
âI donât need you to worry about the things I regret, Father,â Charles said, âLetâs just stay clear of each other and mind our own business from now on.
If your illegitimate children ask for shares, give them yourself if youâre so capable, or otherwise, stop pretending that youâre so good yourself.â
He paused before continuing in a harsher tone. âAs for me, I will never give them a single cent!â
âAlright, remember your words! I wonât mind you and the same goes for you. I want to see just how long you can act so arrogantly!â Mr. Harris sneered and strode away.
The villa immediately fell into an awkward silence.
After a long moment, Yvette broke the silence. âCharles, you shouldnât have turned completely against him. You never know whatâs going to happen in the future. What if something happens to you? At least you could still...â
âNo matter what problems I encounter, I will never go to him for help.â Charles interrupted her with a deep frown.
Yvette let out a sigh and did not push further. Then, she turned to Sophia. âIâm sorry you had to witness that.â
âEvery family has a skeleton in their cupboard, itâs nothing,â Sophia replied.
Perhaps she would never have been able to understand a married couple who constantly argued with each other in the past. After all, her parents never fought, and on the rare occasions that his father threw tantrums, her mother would quickly coax him and they would make amends.
However, she had experienced this too many times throughout the years.
Yvette talked about Jennyâs sudden passing for a bit and said some comforting words to Sophia. Then, she finally got up to leave.
Before she left, she reminded Charles, âYour grandfather doesnât have much time left, itâs only natural for him to feel frustrated and lose his temper frequently. You might have an advantage here now, but donât be so full of yourself. Remember to be cautious in everything you do. Otherwise, you wonât even see a truck coming your way.â
Madam Hemingway had given them similar advice as well.
Sophia thanked her graciously and sent her to the door along with Charles by her side.
Once the car finally disappeared from sight, Charles suddenly spoke up, âIâll try my best to include you in all my decisions, and I hope that you can talk to me when you face troubles, is that alright?â
Sophia looked up and stared at her own figure reflected in his eyes. As usual, his deep eyes seemed to be able to see through her mind.
She quickly glanced away and nodded. âIâll... Try.â
It was not that she did not trust Charles. Just that if she trusted him, it meant that there was something wrong with Nicole... Trying to decide between Nicole and him was tearing her apart!
Charles looked at her for a while and said nothing. âWhat do you want to eat? Iâll go put something together.â
âIâm sure Iâll like anything that you make.â Sophia lowered her head. She held his hands and played with his fingers, just as he usually would with hers.
Charles cupped her face and planted a kiss on her lips. âGo wait in the living room, then.â
As they were eating, Charles said to her, âNow that Mr. Long is offering his part of White Industriesâ shares, Leah will convince Jones Group to purchase it. Once Jones Group becomes one of White Industriesâ shareholders, White Industriesâ stock value will plummet.
âThese are all already considered in my plan, so you donât have to worry when the time comes.â
Sophia hesitated for a moment before nodding her head.
She suspected that he was suddenly talking about this because it meant that he was giving her the respect she deserved. This was all so she could be comfortable enough to be honest with him.
However, she was still undecided about whether to bring up her sister-in-lawâs discovery of him being related to her motherâs death.
Charles helped her fill her bowl with different food and waited patiently for her to say something, but even until they finished their meal, she still said nothing.

Meanwhile, the Jones family...
At the restaurant.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 363 I Already Gave It A Good Thought âWhat? Youâre thinking of buying 25 percent of White Industriesâ shares from Mr. Long?â Master Jonesâ hand jolted. He almost threw out the bowl and chopsticks in his hands.
Even Mr. Jones who had always been incredibly supportive of her could not help but give her a disapproving frown.
Leah nodded affirmingly. âWhite Industriesâ stock market hasnât stopped dropping recently. With Uncle James in the hospital, Sterling has been the one handling all of White Industriesâ official business.
âMr. Long isnât optimistic about White Industriesâ future development and decided to let go of all the shares he has. Itâs a worthwhile investment for us.â
Madam Jones responded gleefully, âBuy more then! James only has 35 percent of the companyâs shares, so if we buy at least 35 percent of the shares, White Industries also belongs to us in a way too, right?â
From her perspective, having the same value of shares as James meant that they had the equivalent say in the company. That way, White Industries would be no different from Jonesâ Group!
