"I do know her, but weâre not very close," Yvette said.
Sophia wanted to ask her what kind of person Madam Johnson was but did not know how to start. In fact, it would be even more appropriate for her to ask her mother this question. However, her motherâs current situation had made it difficult for her to ask her too much.
Yvette could roughly guess what she was trying to ask her about and took the initiative to say, "Objectively speaking, Madam Johnson is a marriage intruder. Her reputation isnât very good either as sheâs a little vain and small-minded. She, however, is your momâs college roommate, so sheâs very nice to your mother."
"Thanks for telling me that, Aunt Harris," Sophia said.
"You donât have to be so reserved with me, my child." Yvette took her hand and pointed in Madam Johnsonâs direction. "She's over there. Letâs go and meet her."
It would be inappropriate for Charles to go over as there were only women over there, hence he did not go with them.
Madam Johnson, like Shawn, had a pair of fox-like eyes that looked both charming and mean. When she saw Yvette and Sophia walking over, she covered her lips and smiled. "I was always the one who approached you, Madam Harris. Itâs really rare to see that youâre actually here to see me today!"
"Itâs been a while. Weâre just here to say hello," Yvette said with a smile.
Harris and Cox were reputable families. Generally, guests would flock to Yvette. When did she ever take the initiative to approach someone?
Several other guests standing around them gazed at Madam Johnson with immensely envious and curious eyes.
"Your necklace is really gorgeous. How much was it? I want to buy one too." Madam Johnson asked, pointing at the necklace hanging around Sophia's neck.
Sophia smiled but did not answer the question directly. "Not much. Itâs not as expensive as the one on your neck. What a large rough diamond. I don't dare think how much it cost."
"You will be surprised at how much it cost. Let me tell you, my husband bought this necklace at an auctionâthe cost was astronomical." Madam Johnson stroked the necklace around her neck carefully. "I am reluctant to wear it on normal occasions."
Sophia said smoothly and readily, "A precious diamond like that deserves to be cherished."
Yvette was slightly surprised. It had been quite some time since she last met Soph and she realized that she was more honey-tongued now. She looked at the elated-looking Madam Johnson and said, "Actually, Sophâs necklace was also bought at an auction. Iâm sure you know who Sterling is, Madam Johnson? Heâs Sophâs brother."
"Sterling is her brother?" Madam Johnsonâs eyes widened as pointed at Sophia and said, "You... you are Sophia, Soph, Jenâs daughter?"
Sophia nodded. "I always hear my mother talk about her best friend, but I have never met you in person. Now that weâve met, I realized that my mother forgot to tell me how beautiful you are."
"Oh, this child. Youâre such a sweet talker." After learning that Sophia was Jenny's daughter, Madam Johnson took on a completely different attitude.
She held her hand and asked her a lot about Jenny.
When Clara and Zachary came over, they happened to see Sophia and Madam Johnson having a pleasant conversation. She pouted with displeasure and walked up to Madam Johnson, greeting her reluctantly.
Madam Johnson was quite cordial toward her. On the contrary, she was not as warm and friendly toward Zachary and even hurled some verbal abuse at him.
"Why are you talking about Zachary like that?" Clara looked fiercely protective as she stood in front of Zachary, growling, "Even if a homewrecker like you have now become the legal wife, you still can't be so arrogant, no?"
Zachary stepped forward to tug at her. His ever-smiling face looked somewhat forlorn. "Stop it."
"No. Iâm going to say it!" Clara roared furiously, "Zachary didnât even say a word about it when you let Shawn take over the company and drove him out! Now that youâve taken all the advantages and Zachary no longer a threat to you, why are you still attacking him? Do you have no conscience at all?"
Madam Johnson was so mad that her face had turned purple. She did not say anything for a very long time.
With the two of them at each otherâs throats, Sophia was at a loss as to which side to take. Moreover, this was somebody elseâs family affairs, hence she stood next to Yvette not uttering a word.
Madam Johnson, however, wanted her to decide which one of them was right. "Don't listen to her saying how pitiful Zachary is. You know that he has a law firm now, right?"
Before Sophia could say anything, Madam Johnson shrieked, "How did he even manage to start up that law firm? My husband gave him the money secretly, then helped him broaden his network to push his business forward, of course!"
"Stop it. I didn't give..." Mr. Johnson muttered. Before he could finish his sentence, Madam Johnson glared at him and he held his tongue at once.
Clara walked up to Sophia as well, then took her other hand and exclaimed, "Sophia, don't listen to her nonsense!"
"The company started up with Big Iceberg investing in parts of it. The Johnson family didnât even pay a single penny. Zacharyâs stepmother has even hired someone to wreck the place several times! How dare she distort the truth now. Does she take us all for a fool?!"
This was supposed to be the Johnson familyâs affairs, but Sophia had somehow become the focus instead.
On one side, there was her mother's decade-long best friend; on the other side, there was Clara, who had helped her at her lowest point in life. What was more, she had gotten along with the two of them afterward.
Whose side was she supposed to take?
Besides, this was the Johnson familyâs affair. Even the most authoritative official found it hard to settle a family quarrel. She was in no position to give any comments either.
Yvette looked on from the sidelines, not knowing whether to laugh or to cry.
Fortunately, the waiters had been observing the things that were happening in the venue. When they realized that there was an argument happening, they went and brought Fredrickson over.
Fredricksonâs gaze swept across the group and said with a blank look on his face, "Ladies and gentlemen, youâre all reputable figures. Why donât we take this somewhere else?"
Sophia noticed two fresh hickeys on his neck, which stood out on him. She then looked behind him but did not see Marie.
"Iâm down for it. I feel so ashamed arguing right here!" Clara harrumphed at Madam Johnson and took Zacharyâs arm. "Don't be afraid, Zachary. I will protect you!"
Madam Johnson took Sophia's hand and complained with a grim look on her face. "Soph, you saw it too, right? I was pretty good to Ms. Robertson, but she, a junior, was screaming in my face like that! What kind of human is she!"
"Clara is a pretty good person," Sophia said.
Madam Johnson snorted. "In that case, Zachary must have planned this whole thing. He has a black heart just like his mother!"
Sophia was in a very awkward position. Why would her mother have a best friend like that?
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 330 Wrote A Love Letter Secretly "Madam Johnson, Soph just got pregnant. It won't be appropriate for her to listen to too many negative things." Yvette chuckled and pulled Sophia to her side while she stood between the two instead.
Madam Johnson was immensely displeased about this, yet at the same time, was fearful of Yvette's status, hence she did not say anything.
Fredrickson took them to a separate conference hall. Charles and Mr. Robertson arrived as well.
"Look at this child. What did I tell you?" Mr. Robertson walked over to Clara and sighed.
"Madam Johnson is an elder. Why did you quarrel with her?"
Clara said with displeasure, "She scolded Zacharyâit was awful!"
"Why canât I scold him when he has done something wrong?" Madam Johnson held Sophia's wrist. "Soph, tell me, was I wrong for saying those things to Zachary just now?"
