Leah watched the door open and close with a gloomy look on her face.
Why was Charles never able to see her?
Although, all will be well after a few days. Sophia would be sentenced to at least a few decades of prison time for attempted murder. This sentencing was unavoidable no matter how good a lawyer she had.
Leah sat in her wheelchair, facing the sunrise as she stretched her body. The weather today was really great!

Sophia prepared to head downstairs and make herself some congee. She did not really know how to cook anything else but congee. When she got downstairs, there was an aroma of delicious food.
Charles seemed to have heard her footsteps from the kitchen. âGo wait in the dining room. The food will be ready soon.â
Sophia frowned slightly as she went into the kitchen.
Charles had on an apron. It was tied loosely behind his waist, accentuating his slender waist. He had a good-looking physique, especially when watching him from behind. The finer points of his body were much more refined...
Broad shoulders, slender legs, perky butt.
Very sexy.
Sophia turned her gaze away and walked to his side. She noticed him trying to fry an egg in the pan with his bandaged hand. âLet me do it.â
âDo you even know how to?â Charles lowered his head to look at her with a raised eyebrow.
Sophia pursed her lips and retracted her hand which had reached toward the pan.
âJust wait in the dining room. Itâll be ready soon,â Charles said to her again as he turned his attention to frying the egg.
Sophia did not move.
When he was done with cooking, she picked up two bowls of congee and walked toward the dining room.
Charles picked up the two fried eggs and a plate of side dish to follow behind her. A slight smile appeared, but he quickly wiped it off his face.
They had just sat down when the doorbell rang before they even started eating.
Sophia looked at the bandages wrapped around Charlesâ hand, arm, and face. She stood up. âIâll get the door.â
âItâs fine. Just sit down and eat.â Charles took out his phone and sent out a message. After that, he picked up his chopsticks and started eating.
Soon, the sound of the door opening could be heard. Next, it was a flurry of footsteps.
âSophia? Sophia! Where are you?â Claraâs excited voice could be heard coming from the living room.
However, her voice sounded like it was getting further and further away.
Sophia was about to say she was at the dining room when Zacharyâs teasing voice could be heard, âHey, little lady, youâre running in the wrong direction. Where do you even think youâre going? Charles and Sophia are in the dining room.â
âWhy didnât you say so earlier, Zachary...â Clara pulled her voice at the end of the sentence in protest. Her voice ended just as they arrived at the dining room entrance.
Her eyes brightened at the sight of Sophia as she made a run toward Sophia, but she stopped halfway there.
Clara scrunched up her nose and took a few deep breaths with an intoxicated look on her face. âWow, what are you eating? It smells so good!
Sophia, how is it that you can look so pretty, have a great personality, and be a wonderful cook at the same time? How can the world have such a perfect sweetie pie like you and allow me to be lucky enough to meet you?â
Zacharyâs face fell. âAm I not perfect?â
Clara glared at him unhappily. âHow can you be perfect when youâre always acting so sickeningly lovey-dovey?â
Claraâs expression turned adorably shy when she turned toward Sophia. âSophia, Can I... Can I have a bowl?â
The food smelled so good!
Zachary pushed his glasses up his nose and said coolly, âWhy do I seem to remember you just having six pieces of xiao long bao and a huge glass of soybean milk?â
âCanât I have a huge appetite?â Clara had her arms akimbo.
Zachary could only put up his hands as a show of surrender. âFine, fine, fine, fine, fine. Whatever you say is right!â
âI wasnât the one who made it.â Sophia wiped the corner of her lips with some tissue as her glance swept toward Charles.
She got up and said, âLet me get you a bowl of congee.â
Clara watched Sophia leave as her eyes widened. They looked big and round. There was only Sophia and Big Iceberg here. If it was not Sophia who made it, that meant... She covered her mouth with her right hand. She was shocked by this revelation!
The food Charles made was truly delicious. Even Zachary ended up sitting down and having some.
After they were done with breakfast, Zachary pushed his glasses up his nose again and asked, âHave you prepared what I need?â
âYup,â Charles replied.
He turned toward Sophia. âGet your coat. Weâre going to the courthouse now.â
After a pause, he added, âPut on some makeup that makes you look a little haggard and tired.â
Sophiaâs body stiffened. It took a while before she found her voice. âIs the court session today?â
Her voice trembled at the end of the sentence.
It felt unreal, much like a hallucination, to find out the day she was waiting for was finally here.
Claraâs eyes were bright and shiny, filled with the utmost pride. âYup, yup! Zachary is your defense lawyer! He has never lost a case. You can feel completely at ease!â
Sophia nodded. She felt her mind go into a whirl. She had no idea what she was doing. By the time she recovered herself, she was already on the way to the courthouse.
She cocked her head to look outside the window. The sun had already risen. The morning sunlight brought along a tinge of loneliness with it. Floating specks of dust and moving light rings could be seen amidst the wisps of rays from the sun... It was like a dream.
When they arrived at their destination, a sea of reporters had already filled up the outside of the courthouse. One wondered if they were hired by Leah or were they here purely for this hot story.
A huge group of reporters crowded toward them when the reporters saw their car arriving. It was almost like each reporter had green lights shining out of their eyes when they saw Sophia seated in the car, much like wolves that just spotted meat.
Numerous microphones were thrust toward her, bright lights flashing about and the same old questions repeated...
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 250 Do You Think They Will Still Threaten Me?
âSophia, Miss Jones has treated you so well. Why did you want to kill her with your car? Was it purely because of jealousy or was there another reason?â
âDonât you feel grateful for Miss Jones when she didnât press charges against you two years ago?â
âHow did you get involved with Mr. Harris? Someone said that you seduced Mr. Harris in Dream Club and got thrown out of there naked. Is this true?â
The car doors could not be opened because of the crowding.
Clara was angry, and her face was white. âWhatâs the matter with these peopleâs mouths? Did every one of them eat sh*t?!â
She pulled down the car window and was about to rebuke them when Zachary stopped her. âDonât add into the mess.â
The reporters were good at taking words out of context and creating a sensation. Clara was the daughter of the current secretary for the municipal committee. It would be a disaster if she ended up being used by those with bad intentions.
Clara pursed her lips unhappily and grunted a few times.
Sophia said, âWith your character, itâll be best to say as little as possible. Youâll end up bringing trouble to the secretary. Let them say whatever they want to. It wonât hurt me at all.â
Clara immediately sat up straight and said seriously, âI think youâre very right! Youâre only two years younger than I am, but how can you know so much?â
With that, she added happily, âItâs no wonder youâre my friend. Youâre such an outstanding person!â
Zachary, â...â
âYup,â Sophia answered distractedly. A layer of sweat had formed on her palms.
She was feeling nervous, afraid of what might go wrong later.
