Everything was of a different range now since Carla was destined to be a part of An family. More so, she was about to become the future female master of the family as well. Regardless of what Carla learned before, Andrea still felt responsible to educate her about the basic rules of such a household.
After dinner, Andrea and Terence went to the living room and talked about a lot of things related to the wedding.
Carla on the other hand, was enjoying her after-dinner fruit while sitting next to them. Both the Hua family and the An family were distinguished and well-known, so there were a lot of rules and protocols to consider when holding a wedding. Carla didn't know anything about this, so she decided not to participate.
In her mind, a wedding was nothing but a small party held within the family. Although there were still rules to follow, they were just not that important to her. Her main idea about the ceremony was a honeymoon after the banquet and that was all.
It was rather complicated to hold a wedding ceremony in JA City. Besides, the An family had its own special rules. The difficulties multiplied after the two kinds of rules combined. Thus, it was quite understandable to see the puzzled expression on Carla's face as she was listening to them.
Also, there was an unwritten rule in the An family that once the two got married, they couldn't get divorced easily unless something serious happened.
Such a rule must be strictly observed in the An family, while their collateral relatives had the freedom to choose whether to observe it or not.
Carla finally understood why Terence's father hadn't had the willingness to get married when he was young. Only after Terence's mother bore two children for him and he got bored with the high life of drinking and sleeping around that he finally married her.
Suddenly, an idea popped into Carla's mind after listening to them for so long. She thought, 'Why am I in a hurry to marry Terence? Why not delay it for a while as we try to reconsider everything?'
She was in the middle of these thoughts when she remembered that Terence once said that she wouldn't be just idling at home even after marrying him.
It was already midnight when the talk between Terence and Andrea ended. They then went back to Carla's room.
"What's wrong? Is there something bothering you, Carla?"
Terence asked while walking out of the shower. He wasn't wearing anything but a towel around his waist. Drying his hair with another towel, he walked to Carla's bed and sat. She seemed to be deep in thought.
Noticing that Terence was beside her, Carla sat cross-legged and pulled him closer.
She then said with a serious look, "I think that we have to postpone our wedding, Terence. What do you think?"
"No way!" Terence immediately frowned and answered. "I have already discussed everything with your mother and we decided to hold the wedding at the beginning of spring. We only have a month to prepare but that should be enough."
"Terence, don't you think that we are deciding on this too fast? I think we have to talk about this further. You are just twenty-nine and I'm only twenty-
four years old. We are both so young. Why are we in such a hurry to get married?" pleaded Carla.
She got even closer to Terence and leaned against his chest. She was looking at him with full sincerity as she spoke.
Sighing, Terence placed the towel he was using on his hair on the chair next to him. He then turned and looked at Carla's eyes before asking, "What's the matter, Carla? You didn't hate getting married before. What's with your sudden change of mind? Why are you hesitant to marry me now?
Don't tell me that you don't want to marry me anymore."
When he said the last sentence, his tone was so ghastly that it even frightened Carla.
"Not at all. I just...Well, how to say this... It just suddenly popped into my mind that I want to be free for another two years," blurted Carla. She had longed for marriage before and thought that it was romantic.
However, being in this situation when she was about to get it, she hesitated and found that it wasn't as easy as she first thought. There were just so many rules to follow in the An family and all she wanted was a casual life.
One wrong move from her during a high-level party and she could cause the An family's reputation to be marred. She would have to marry Terence together with all the An family's outdated rules. In short, she would lose her beloved and cherished freedom.
She got scared after listening to Terence and her mother talk earlier.
"We cannot change those rules that easily, Carla. Of course, there would be rules during our first month living in the An's Manor. But once we move out, you wouldn't need to keep all those rules in your mind at all. We will live in the Seaview Villa and you can be whoever you want there. You just have to endure the first month."
Terence held her hand tightly as he explained. He then continued in a gentle voice, "We've already suffered a lot together. I don't understand what made you feel like this after hearing all the rules. They're nothing compared to the hardships we have gone through. Besides, you will always have me beside you. Don't cower, please."
Carla let out a long sigh and then leaned in his arms. She replied in an exhausted tone, "Even if you will be with me, you can't chime in when I'm rebuked by the elders. It is me who will have to face all this."
