âDid you hear what I said?â He is shaking, his wolf is ready to take over.
I put my hands up in the air and Igétas is by my side in a second.
Vasil showing in his eyes.
âEasy,â Igétas tells his brother.
âYou little witch, you want to hurt my mate!â He growls and Jolanda steps between us.
âStop it Tharros! Megál, nothing is wrong with Violet.â Jolanda says to the wolf trying to come out.
âShe, she will hurt you.â
âNo she wonât Tharros.â Jolanda speaks in a lovely voice. âShe is human, I am a werewolf. I am not as defenseless as you think I am. Stop making Violet the problem. Listen to your Gamma. He is right. The moment we show weakness as a Pack, is the moment they will seize the opportunity and attack. We were lucky that the last time we were under attack, there werenât more casualties. One of the reasons there werenât more victims was because of Violets actions.â
I listen to Jolandas plea in favor of me. Igétas uses the distraction to shield my body from Tharros. âLetâs all settle down and eat something. Violet isnât a witch. I will stay away from her if that is what Megál wants. Like the last couple of weeks. But know, I donât agree. She doesnât even know witches are a real.â
The last sentence makes me look at Igétas who nods to me. So there are witches?
She cast her eyes down. âI never let my voice get heard. I donât want to disrespect you in front of the Pack. But you almost got too far, Tharros.â
âFine, Eat!â the Alpha comments his Pack members and everyone disappears. He takes Jolanda in his arms and doesnât say anything when he is trying to stare Igétas down.
âThe Pack comes first.â Igétas says when the Alpha turns to me. Jolanda takes his hand and lead him to the Pack house.
We watch them walk behind the werewolf group and I sigh. âThat was close.â
Igétas nods, âI would never let anything bad happen to you.â
âI know you would have stopped him and I am grateful for Jolanda stepping in. If not, we would be banished from the grounds.â
âYeah, or I had lost a brother,â he wraps me in his arms, âSo, do you have questions about witches?â
âYes, I do, but first, what is the current threat?â
He rubs his neck and we start walking to the house. âI donât want you to know.â
âWell, too late for that. Just tell me what I need to look out for.â
âA lot,â he says without a smile so I know he doesnât joke around. âThere are a lot of things out for us in the de world to be worried about. But at this moment we are worried about rogues. Rogues who have united to from a pack and are trying to hurt us.â
âWhy?â I ask.
âYou need to know that living in a Pack comes with enemies. Just because you exist. The reason for this group to attack us? I donât know. Maybe we are becoming too big and too powerful. Or do they want our land. It is not like they left a note with the last attack.â
âSo they will come back, even when the Alpha is dead?â I ask without the mention of my killing him. It is still something I didnât know I was capable of.
âThey doesnât have a Pack like we do. They just meet up and live in the woods, more wolf then human. When one is dead, the other will take over. Ranks change very quick.â
âDonât worry my mate. You are safe with me.â He hugs me and I snuggle in his arms.
âI know I am. So about the kissâ¦â I say wanting to change the subject.
âI am sorry, I was so proud of you. You were amazing! I shouldnât had kissed you with the entire Pack watching but I couldnât hold back.â He is rattling and he looks adorable trying to explain himself.
âHey,â I smile at him. âItâs okay. I liked our kiss. You are a good kisser.â I blush.
âYes, I loved our kiss, but letâs be careful with it. I did start the mating process and we need to slow it down.â
âIs that even possible?â I ask and he laughs when he tells me ânoâ.
We walk to the breakfast buffet and hope they left us something.
âThis is hopeless!â I say in Dutch and I let my head rest on one of the old dusty books. I am in the library hoping to find something about my strange luna-thingy. I canât find anything on the subject. So strange. Yes, they said it is a rear condition, but I canât find anything on it. I have two dictionaries before me. A Dutch-English and a English-Dutch one. Also is my phone the third translator.
âDo I hear a little birdy ask for help?â Amanda enters the library.
âThis is pointless. Nowhere do they mention anything about Luna-courage. I canât find anything!â
âRelax, Vi,â Amanda takes the stool next to me. âWe look at it together.â She takes the book from me and start reading. Flipping some pages over.
âHere,â she points to one of the paragraphs.
â I donât see it.â
âLookâ she is pointing at it again like I didnât saw it the first time.
âAlpha female bravery,â I read out loud.
âYes,â she says, âLuna-courageâ.
I give her my signature I-donât-understand-look.
âWhat will be your title when you are mated to Igétas?ââ
âBeta female,â I answer.
âYes, Alpha female is the same as Luna. Only the last couple of decades we are calling the Alpha female Luna. It is shorter and more modern.
I stare at her.
âYou mean, all this time I spend in this dusty place could have been avoided?â I feel so stupid. I been in here for days.
âNot for nothing.â She says and I raise an eyebrow.
âYou learnt to ask for help and next time you wonât waste your time.â She winks and I growl. We start laughing and study together.
It is nice to have a close friend. I need friends in this Pack. A lot.
