A/N: The picture looks a little evil but just look at the blue eyes it's exactly what I imagined.

Beta Jarred pov
The soft slow breathing of my mate was barely noticeable. She was so still it unnerved me. When she suddenly passed out my heart leaped. I would have rushed to her if it wasn't for Brittney clinging to me. Looking at her now worried me, she was too skinny, too weak. She needed someone to protect her. There was a nagging feeling though in the back of my mind. It kept bothering me that I couldn't figure out what it was.
She was lying on a sick bed and I was on a chair beside her. Unknown to Brittney who taught I was helping the Nobles. Reaching forward I took her cold hand in mine. Her hand was soft and fragile, holding it spawned certain desires that should stay amiss. I soon realized what was bothering me. It wasn't the fact that Alice was weak but the fact that I wanted to be the one to protect her. I wanted her to depend on me, to need me.
Such desires were dangerous and despite her being my true mate I had already rejected her. I have a new mate now. I shouldn't feel this way for her and yet still, I couldn't help it. The fact that I lied to Brittney in order to be here was a red flag but I didn't care. I wanted to be here.
Just then I finally realized there was a buzzing in my head. The Alpha was trying to mind link me but I was so engrossed with her I didn't realize. So when the door suddenly went flying off its hinges into the wall on the other side of the room I wasn't too surprised. However out of instinct I found myself now shielding Alice from the new threat.
Stepping towards me Alpha Jake was livid.
"I have been mind linking you for the pass ten minutes why haven't you responded?" He shouted grabbing my collar in a threatening manner.
"I am sorry I didn't realize Alpha, my mate needed me." I answered softly trying not to show any signs of dominance before it upset him even more. He then glanced at Alice and I could see his anger towards me wash away. It was like he understood my pain but that's impossible he doesn't have a mate and he never liked Alice, why was he being so understanding and tolerating?
"I understand." He spoke calmly as his hands let go of me. Just then Gamma Ryan stepped in to stand behind Alpha Jake.
"I have a mate." Alpha Jake spoke shocking me. When? How? Who? He didn't tell me anything and from Ryan's calm reaction it would seem he already knew.
"That's great. Who is she?" I answered surprised.
"The Royal." He spoke as I let those words sink in. The Royal? How? Normally in a mating the males are dominant and didn't her mate die already. I was still trying to wrap my mind around his previous words when he continued.
"The problem is she was bitten, the venom is inside her and it's getting worse, I can feel it." Alpha spoke.
"Where is she?" I asked.
"The other side of the house, my bedroom. However they wouldn't let me pass. I need you two to help me get to my mate. She needs me, I can feel it. My wolf is on edge." He spoke urgently as his eyes glowed amber. He really needed to be with her now. Kind of like the way I felt when I saw Alice pass out.
"Okay let's go. Maria stay with her, if anything happens mind link me." I spoke to the young woman who was standing outside. With one last glance at Alice I walked out behind Alpha Jake with Gamma Ryan on his other side. We weren't even two steps outside the sick room when it happened.
Suddenly Alpha Jake dropped to his knees breathing heavily. Then he fell forward on his hands as his muscles rippled. He was shifting, but why now? Then as a lethal wave of dominance started radiating from him I knew exactly what was happening. His Lycan was taking over his mate was in danger of dying.
Suddenly he released a loud roar as his clothes ripped from his body and fur covered his skin. Helplessly both Ryan and I were forced to kneel as his dominance was too strong to resist. Maria had fallen to the floor as she was weaker than us and didn't have the power to stay up. I was happy for once that Alice was unconscious. I would have hated to see how an Alpha Lycan's dominance would have affected her.
He was too big to stand forcing him to stay on all fours despite the tall ceilings and wide walls of the pack house. While it was built in the case of an indoor werewolf shift it didn't do much good for a lycan. His massive shoulders dragged on both sides of the walls creating cracks and in some parts breaking it. Running straight ahead he kept slamming into corners causing the walls there to break and crumble, every hit rocked the house.
He didn't spare us a second thought as he ran forward towards his mate. While Ryan followed at a safe distance I stayed back with my mate. With him in that form I wasn't taking any chances with Alice's safety. I quickly mind linked the pack to stay away from the Alpha's bedroom.
Walking back to my mate I sat by her bedside listening to Alpha Jake's wake of destruction as I took her hand in mine once again. He was moving fast destroying everything in his path. After a few minutes everything went calm. I couldn't hear him that well now but it sounded like he had finally reached his mate. At least I thought so until it started... the smell of blood.
Someone actually tried stopping an Alpha Lycan. It was their death wish. As the screams started the smell of blood grew stronger. Judging from the mind link the victims were not from our pack. He was attacking the council warriors posted to guard the royal. There will be a backlash for that, despite him being within his rights as the royal's mate. Then again, this was a typical example of why council warriors were mate less.
After a few more minutes everything went quiet once again. It would seem all the council warriors either stepped out of his way or are dead. For the sake of peace I prayed it was the first option.
Reaching forward I brushed some of Alice's hair back observing her features. My mate was quite the tiny little thing for a werewolf. Now that I look at her, she is quite beautiful, actually maybe the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Running my hand through her blond locks I could vaguely hear the snarls of battle as Alpha Jake was now fighting some noble level warriors. I could tell they shifted because of the sudden outburst of dominance in the air. However while I was far enough to resist their dominance I could still feel that they were different than normal noble warriors. They were stronger. He was most likely fighting the Execution team and Stealth team leaders. Impressive but that is the power of a Lycan.
My hand stopped midway from tracing her checks once more when I heard it. The long heart retching howl of grief. The royal was dead. The venom killed her. I just hope everyone was smart enough to evacuate the area and not try getting in between them.
Staring back at my mate, I started noticing things I didn't before. Her hair wasn't all blonde, she had brunette roots and as it flow out the blonde grew stronger. She had dark circles under her eyes I could still see the faint outline of the Alpha's hand around her throat from the night of my engagement. Looking back now I regretted it. I should have stopped the Alpha, I should have protected her. Not just then but since the beginning, I should have stayed by her side.
As those thoughts filled my head I didn't notice it at first. However as it grew stronger I looked at my mate to see she was glowing faintly. It started from her hair then spread to the rest of her body growing stronger until it completely engulfed her. Startled I squeezed her hand tighter calling her name but there was no response. She continued glowing as her once cold hands became warm on its own.
Suddenly the heart monitor went off the charts before exploding and the power cut. The whole house was plunged into darkness. If it wasn't for her glowing I wouldn't be able to see. Then the hand I was holding on to tighten right before her eyes flew open. A pure blue crystalise stared back at me before she released my hand and got off the bed. I called after her but she didn't listen. Ignoring me she continued through the doors that Alpha Jake had ripped off.
The air behind her glowed more than the rest of her body and I can faintly see the outlines of wings. Her green eyes were gone replaced by pure blue, the colour of purity but more importantly only angels had those. Angels were unheard of, no one has ever seen any since the war started and the witches betrayed heaven.
I hurried after her reaching out to her arm only to instantly release it as my fingers that managed to make contact now burned. Staring at my hand in disbelief I watched as smoke came off my fingers as it bled looking scorched. Another second and it started healing but very slowly, definitely not at a Beta level. Looking at her now in panic I screamed, "Alice!" but nothing. She continued forward in a trance as if I didn't exist. What exactly is going on? What happened to my mate?
. . . .
As the guardian angel approached her witch the glowing of her body grew more and more. Her once brunette blonde hair was now completely blonde and shining brightly. Her skin shone, her eyes now completely the crystal blue of an angel's. The seal placed deep within her soul was breaking and as she drew nearer to her charge it stripped away. Reaching the entrance to the Alpha's bedroom she didn't pay heed to the doctor and nurses rushing out. Her charge was the only thing she felt nothing else mattered but her need to save her. Stepping inside she saw her lifeless body on the bed, her lycan mate was next to her grieving lost in his own world.
As she approached two high level werewolves were suddenly in front her blocking her path. For the first time Alice turned her attention on something other than her charge. As they growled in warning at her, she glanced them over not even deeming them a threat. Lifting her hand towards them she flicked it outwards, as if to shoo them away as one would with a dog. No one expected what happened next.
Suddenly they both went flying backwards, smashing through the closed French doors, over the balcony and landing with a massive hole in the ground as dirt flew everywhere and pieces of glass and the wall rained down on them.
The Lycan lifted his head finally noticing Alice's presence. Turning his full body to her he stepped in front of his lifeless mate placing himself in between the two. However instead of growling or taking a fighting stance, the Lycan kneeled as the angel glanced at him in acknowledgement. With the angels being god's first child and the werewolves the third, it was a sign of respect. The Lycan was also aware of exactly who this particular angel was, his mate's guardian and the only one with the power to save her.
The lycan moved aside as the angel now took the final few steps to bring her next to her charge. Glowing brighter than ever she lifted hand reaching out towards Emma and as her index finger touched Emma's forehead. An explosion of light occurred blinding the lycan and probably everyone in house for a good few seconds as a deafening ringing sound filled the air. After a few minutes the ringing died out and there was no longer any blinding light. Instead now there stood a full guardian angel as her seal has been fully lifted.
White feathered wings stretched out on both sides of Alice's petite form. It was intriguing that such a small form can carry such massive wings. Her hair a beautiful blonde that glowed and her eyes an ever brighter Emmalise blue, but more importantly her charge was also engulfed in her angelic glow. The lycan moved to the entrance of the room guarding it so that the angel wouldn't be disturbed. He couldn't shift back, not now. His wolf refused to give up control until he knew his mate was safe.
. . . .
Somewhere deep within the caves of Grenada
"Was it successful?" A deep voice questioned darkly, a threat clearly in the air. He stood tall, dark and dangerous. Despite his devilish good looks and sinewy built he was no prince charming. The smaller man in front him could just barely see his face in the darkness of the cave they both stood in. Not that he dared to look him in the eyes but what he didn't know is that further into the shadows of the dark cold cave stood three other figures who looked on in silence.
"Yes it worked. Better than we expected. The results were instant." The smaller man answered in a nervous tone while griping the edges of his shirt. He knew the man standing in front of him was brutal and ruthless. He would kill him without a second thought.
Suddenly rough strong hands were around his throat pushing him up against the dark cold cave walls until his feet barely touched the ground. Adding pressure the smaller man started choking as stars filled his vision before he was released falling to the ground. Coughing and sucking in the much needed air he almost didn't hear the next words of the sadist figure in front of him.
"Then where is she, the hybrid?" The dangerous man questioned bringing one of his black boots down on the smaller man's right hand so hard that the sound of bones breaking filled the cave walls. His sexy devilish features quickly turned into a sadist grin as dark magic started rippling through his finger tips in a threatening manner. It was clear as day. The wrong answer would mean his death but he knew better, there was no way he could run from the man in front of him.
"Something unexpected happened..." he mumbled out before rough hands were once again around his throat but this time the dark magic now coming from it burnt at his skin.
"Unexpected? We have waited almost two hundred years for something unexpected?" The man hissed looming close to the smaller man giving him a full view of his face and pitch black eyes that had an outer ring of blood red. The eyes of an witch who had turned their back on god. Right that second he knew there was no way he was going to live. The man in front him was a legendary dark witch among the coven, he never lets anyone see his face.
He started praying for a quick death for he knew as soon as he spoke the next few words the man in front him would no longer have any use for him.
"They got her before we could." He spoke fearfully trembling.
"Who did?" The dark witch questioned tightening his grip slightly in annoyance that the weakling in front him couldn't just spit everything out at once.
"The council's lap dogs." He spoke trembling as he knew his life was now over and just like that the slight rippling of dark magic around his throat turned into a powerful surge. The darkness wrapped around his mind forcing him to meet his darkest fear. It was a slow torturous death, letting his darkest fears sallow him up until his heart gave out.
He crumbled to the floor as the dark witch released his grip with his sadist grin still in place. Too quickly though it turned into annoyance as one of the men in the shadows chanted a short spell crushing all the bones of the smaller one giving him an instant death instead of the slow painful one he would have had to endure.
"Cain, we have no time for your fun. We need to leave now in order to get the hybrid before Ethan and Ryder can hide her." He spoke stepping out the shadows, the other two followed suit as three pairs of black onyx eyes with red outer rings glared back at the younger dark witch before them.
"Find let's go, it shouldn't take that long anyway. They wouldn't expect us to be so close already."
Stepping over the dead body and out into the sunlight the youngest of the four turned back to glance at the three older men before his sadist grin was back on his face, it was more or less a permanent attribute. Kneeling before them he spoke.
"Don't worry council, your right hand yours truly will personally see to retrieving the hybrid. Our two hundred year long wait will finally come to an end. By tonight the hybrid will be in our hands again."
